I am South East Asian, I read the article, and then I read the comments... all the while I was thinking to myself... Wow... so I guess all of us ASIANs in general are racists.... Because while he is getting backlash for saying what he said. In South East Asian media, no one would even bat an EYE if you make racist comments about Chinese people, because trust me, our beauty standards DO NOT find Chinese features flattering at all. There is so much casual racism in South East about Chinese looks and features, and NOW, Masculinity. People with delicate, enlightened sensibilities will come out in hives, just listening to it. I have had to fight an uphill battle in my community for being into Kpop and Asian Dramas just to get people closest to me to stop saying Racist stuff so casually. 13 years in, and I still feel like a failure. I say all of this, not to defend Linghe, that was a stupid thing to say. But to highlight the point regarding how prevalent it is in almost all Asian societies.
Ok.... SEXUAL TENSION from the get go.... Very nicely done. And though I am not particularly a fan of WEAK MCs, Khem somehow has that kitten quality that though I know he is going to frustrate me, I still want to root for him and I feel Sad for the cards he's been dealt. I am onboard! Lets goooooo!
I am not watching the episodes now, because I am waiting for it to end, I cannot stand being miserable all week because of SAD cliffhangers OKAY. I am weak OKAY... I can't do it until I know RESOLUTION is in sight!
It's funny I feel this way, even though I know exactly how the story is supposed to go! Baaaaah
Just finished it, finally, RELUCTANTLY Because this PAIRING! OMG! I always expect great things from POND. But I was not expecting Peterpan to be so good! He has this weight to his aura which I really really liked and which was extremely necessary for a character like TADA. What a beautiful pairing. What a great set up for both the actors. As for the Drama. They really went with the more romance driven plot than the revenge-driven plot, which might have been a big gripe for me, I mean it kind of takes away much of Armin's agency as an MC and puts the main couple on a more defensive position, which frankly is a bit weak, story-telling wise. BUT the Romantic scenes were so good, and I am a sucker for them, so I am not going to complain about it or deduct marks when I am still so fresh from watching. Every Kiss between them really held that emotional weight, like nowhere did I say to myself, HUH, they are making out again (that tends to happen sometimes when there are so many love scenes in a drama, it really can get tedious for me). Here they are so well done, there is no awkwardness in the love-scenes and there are a LOT of those, just a heads up for those who will be bingeing like I just did. OVERALL, it's a solid BL. One of the best out of Thailand in a MINUTE. So I highly recommend it. I will be following both Pond and Peterpan's careers from this point forward.. #ArminXThadaFanclub :D
I knew about this drama when it was airing and looking it up realized it was adapted from a BL novel which I had seen on a few well-recommended lists. So I chose to read the novel first and then come to the drama. Now, let me make this clear. The novel is REALLY good! I highly recommend it if BL is your cup of tea. The dynamics, the characters, their thoughts and then their decisions in accordance are all really well done. The MCs identity crisis is the Crux of the story and the author left no ends lose. The sexual tension, the revenge, the catharsis, it's a really good story which surprisingly does not go totally limp once the SECRET soul-swap is revealed which is commendable.
As for the drama, 4 episodes in. The casting seems on point. And the characterization is very good! So far they are not going SNIP on the BL stuff, which is absolutely unavoidable if you stay true to the heart of the story. Se Kyung is one of the most interesting characters in this story, and redacting his character would be an atrocity, but lets see how it goes.
With KBLs being a whole genre now. I wish they had gone the proper BL route. 12, 40min episodes would have sufficed. BUT ALAS. With so many soul swap stories on the block, this one is REALLY REALLY SOLID. I hope to see it one day in its full-length BL glory.
So people remember the Chi Cheng related Grape scene at the beginning of the drama, but don't remember How GCY literally gave away his "Lover" as f he was an object to Chi Cheng as a prize for winning the snake fight, despite the "Lover's" protest? And the implication was that he has been doing that for a while because he is unable to beat CC's snake in a fight? That passes as a green flag? ROFLMAO
Fanservice is NEXT LEVEL cringe. I occasionally watch clips because once you watch BL the algorithm of social…
I so so agree. This is why I never truly got into the Thai BL fandom. The pairing, the fan service. It's too much for me! I cringe so hard. I want to look at characters and their dynamics. I mean, I don't ship Tian with ZiYu, even after watching the really cute BTS stuff. I mean yea, it's work and they are doing everything to make the experience comfortable for each other and doing the best that they can with what they are given. I see sincerity and respect for each other in both of their interactions without any forced shipping stuff, and for me, that has added to the experience for me while watching this.
I literally finished this and was like, "When will LSH get his big acting script?" He been in the industry…
I know right! It's so wild how this was such a promising premise. And the production design looked really good and the concept was there for sure. The most difficult thing would have been to mess it up because all the right stars were aligned AND YET!
i didn't think the ending was as bad as everyone else seemed to, because even though the show kinda presented…
I agree with you to some extent. It's not the story I have the problem with. The suspension of disbelief required from the get go is obvious. And I don't think it was necessarily a bad finale, IF it WAS what the story was moving towards all along. But that is not the case. There is no build up to get to where we end up in the final episode. The best shocks and twists in a story are ones that are surprising but not confusing. This one seems like there are at least 3 episodes worth of buildup that is missing. A show with a tone such as this, makes you crave that shock in resolution and I wanted to be shocked, I did, but not confused.
