This is the first time, in this type of drama that I am actually ROOTING for the FL to succeed. Usually in Kdramas like these, the FL is so frustrating because she is either too EMO to the point of exhaustion, or absolutely obnoxious as she overdoes rowdy and stupid playing the NORMAL girl trope. I like this one. She is weak, but she makes genuine effort to get strong and get to her revenging. She is SAD, but she does not whine constantly. She is genuinely TRYING and I appreciate that. ML, I loved from the get-go.. because let's be real, ML is never the problem in this kind of drama. He is made to be adored and I shall.
P.s. I mean, no matter who it is... IF you are one of the people who would compliment a GIRL/influencer who is attempting to show up someone else on their wedding by wearing a white dress/wedding dress, let alone one's sister, Re-think your life, please. I would never do that unless I knew the exact context. It's basic girl code.

Ok, then... 1. From the get-go, the thing that struck me as rather unique was that the series starts from a rather explicitly sexual relationship between the main leads, which is something I have rarely seen in BLs especially Japanese BLs (in recent memories) most romances start the other way around. Emotional attachment then turns into a physical relationship. Sometimes at the end of the drama, or somewhere in the middle. So that was rather unique for me and sort of makes you start thinking about the whole scenario in a kind of backward way. Usually, Romantic Dramas do not start that way, and the Dramas that do are not meant to be romantic, but rather a commentary on Relationships about Society or emotional trauma and so forth. When I started watching this drama, I thought it was going the DRAMA drama route, not the Romantic drama route because it was explicit in its sexual depiction, but then it took a left turn and went the romance route. SO, subversion of expectation.
2. So miscommunication, I think the obvious miscommunication from the get-go is when Mizuki asks Yoh to come to stay with him and take care of the house and that he will take care of the finances, it's basically him asking Yoh to be his partner, rather than a slave which is what Yoh perceives it to be. Yoh, in all his glorious density, never thinks to cross Mizuki when he tells him something to do and just never comes out to communicate his feelings about the subject or doubts about his position. It's not like Mizuki forced him to be his SLAVE, Mizuki made an offer, and Yoh took it, never thinking or gathering the courage to discuss the terms and conditions that came with the offer. Now a part of Mizuki knew this too, but to him, Yoh being with him was more important than discussing the state of their affairs. Yoh would not open up and Mizuki thinking he has found the person he does not have to wear the MASK in front of feels criminally comfortable in the way things are. They both are inept in communicating and expressing themselves and think they are providing each other exactly what the other wants. Which is not true. So misunderstandings ensue. Because of course they do. The problem for at least Mizuki is not at all, "Does he love me?" He knows very well that Yoh does, he thinks that by asking Yoh to be with him, he has proven he loves Yoh too. I mean it's been 3 years and Mizuki hasn't strayed once. He is damn sure Yoh knows. It's not until Yoh starts to break away from him that he realizes that Yoh might not know how he feels about Yoh.

Ok, if you already disliked it, then my explanation could not possibly change your mind. So, I won't bother. Somethings just speak to people in different ways and there is nothing wrong with that.
This is hands down the best Japanese BL of the year! They are both such off-beat characters in their own specific ways. And I love how subversive they both are as typical character tropes. Miscommunication and Misunderstanding are the name of the game here, but NOT in the way you would typically see in Dramaland, and I love that! Please don't miss this if you are on the fence.

I agree with every thing you said. The moment Sand took that audio clip, was the very moment it's exposing became inevitable. I wonder if Sand is regretting it right now at the end of the latest episode, seeing Ray so out of control, insulting Sand and driving off into danger. He seems like the kind who'd regret seeing someone they care about go off the deep end because of the circumstances they created.
I keep wondering, and I am posing this question to you guys too... Do you think if Boston had not constantly goaded and been an asshole to Ray about the whole situation with Mew and then about how Ray wants to take advantage of Mew post-breakup with Top, would Sand and then in connection Ray would still do the expose on Top???
This could have been so good, but they kind of went the MEH way. No explanation about why, how and since when Simeon has a crush on Lee Jun. No explanation about why HyunJae loves Lee Jun to the point of helping him work in his company. No explanation about the sort of relationship between Simeon and HyunJae beyond the manager and artist. No explanation for why EVERYONE is obsessed with Lee Jun. I mean, if everyone was obsessed with Choi Jun, I'd get it. But LEE JUN? REALLY? The cardboard cut-out character with a goofy smile. WELL... Drama Logic I would give this a 7 for Choi Jun's looks and smiles alone.... sigh. Could have been so much better than it was!
Yi asking Lian if they were having an affair made me LAUGH... The excessive eye contact, smirks and chemistry between the two, in general, have made me wonder that since Cutie Pie 1.. LOL I'm sorry, but I'd watch that ish!

I am team NEW FACES totally, because both these characters are iconic and hella entangled, so NEW faces would mean a clean slate and no prior associations.
I think in Thai BL scenario, casting Gu Hai would not be as tricky as casting Bai Louyin would be. He is complex, emotional, and while Gu Hai might be the aggressive one, BLY is the one in control of situations. He is more Nuanced and sensitive, but not any less manly and charismatic than Gu Hai. Bai Louyin is certainly worthy of all the attention he gets. I hope they get him right! A dynamic of Equals would make more sense. Like that in the BAD BUDDY series.
Gu Hai and his Cousin in the novel are supposed to be two sides of the same coin. To the point that even physically…
You basically had it right all along LOL. But yes, the real reason that character is there is to show what Gu Hai would be like without Bai LouYin. Chai JiDan does this in most of her novels. She will show a mirror character that would be very much like one of the MCs but different because they did not have the same journey as the MCs.
