Anyone whose watched the novel please held me understand something I've missed In both the series and the novel..I'll…
Gu Hai and his Cousin in the novel are supposed to be two sides of the same coin. To the point that even physically they resemble each other a lot. The cousin is basically shown as what Gu Hai would be like if he never met Bai Louyin. Ruthless, domineering, cold, possessive and calculated. Since, Gu Hai was fascinated by Bai LouYin from the very first encounter, it would make sense that his cousin would be too. And that is the whole dynamic there. "If I can't have you, I won't let anyone else have you either." is the mantra in their lives. Gu Hai really struggles a lot with his jealousy and possessiveness through out the story, but his cousin's goes unchecked.
Unpopular and controversial opinion I know. But really, the reason why you are all loving this series so much and why the original "Addicted Heroin" was a phenomenon was because the original novels by Chai Ji Dan are actually GOOD. Yes she does some controversial stuff. And the relationships she creates are not always healthy, and CONSENT is a big issue in some of her novels (looking at you "Counter Attack and Addicted) but her characters and their quirks make for a very entertaining bordering on addictive READ. Like do yourself a favor and read some of her novels if you can get your hands on a good translation. You will not be disappointed.
Damn, this got me right in the feels! Original was good, but this one is better explained. Or maybe things got lost in translation for the original version, because the Subs are still crap on that one. This was very very well done. It's still bromantic, but lets see if they dare. Wu bi mentioning his Ge's sexual preferences is an indicator if any that THIS could still go the BL route, only they will take it there perhaps at the VERY end. So maybe most of this Drama would be about both of them realizing that what they feel for each other is more intense than PLATONIC. Shangyin jumps around 10 years in book 2 so it makes sense that they have shown this part based in 2006. Lets see what happens. I am excited! Very Very excited.
You know what... I think they heavily featured the little girl in the intro and outro scenes to slip past the censors, even though it's not being aired in Mainland China. I mean, I am pretty sure this is still gonna end the BROMANCE route, because yes, book 1 of Shangyin really can pass off as a bromance if you just ignore the whole sexual attraction thing and most of the things Gu Hai (Wu Bi) is thinking and saying. Of all Chai Jidan's novels they Bromanticized Shi Bu Ke Dang (which was an absolute TRAGEDY and TRAVESTY ) Shangyin in comparison is a piece of CAKE to adapt as a bromance. Obviously I am saying all this to save myself from heartbreak LOL... But the moment it turns bromantic, Imma CRY for real. Cuz I really like this version so far. It's got likeable leads. And the little girl is adorable and the music is nice and not grating on my nerves with repetition. SIGH.
Ps. Anyone knows why they changed the name of the main characters?
I think there has to be another season or something.. But if there isn't, it would make sense too.... They started this story in the MIDDLE somewhere... And so they end it in the middle somewhere too. Yea, in the world of HOUSE OF STARS it makes sense I guess.
The romance was the only down side of this otherwise very thrilling and entertaining watch with ample twists and turns! I recommend it! A solid 8.5/10 .
While the first 2 episodes were kind of a snoozefest, topped with REALLY not good subs. I think the 3rd episode was a vast improvement. I also think we are still in the story's introductory phases, and it will be a rather complicated yarn. Also, it's my understanding that the post-credit or Mid-credit random scene they throw in is a flashback/Clue from the past. This show has a potential to go way sexier and way bloodier than most Thai BLs so lets keep our toes clenched. At this stage, judging that the show is rubbish is premature. I think I'm going to give it a fair chance until at least episode 6.
This is kind of the perfect feel-good, coming-of-age romance that one craves on those lonely nights when you are tired and worn out by your daily grind. Tar is exceptional. He has charisma in spades and his young age really lends itself to the fantastical silliness of his character. Bom is also good in his part, he is likable throughout even when you get a bit annoyed by his character at times. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this to everyone. It's genuinely sweet and funny. And I personally also really liked the bit of Drama toward the end. Watch it!
I love his voice too! I loved him in Empress Ki as a kind of male bimbo Emperor.
I think JCW is brilliant in everything he does.. It's just that his recent script choices have been a bit meh.. But Sound of Magic is brilliant and I loved him in it.. Also he sings really well! Also, voice aside, did you notice how much they showcased LSH's STRUTTING in Tomorrow... At this point, I can recognize that STRUT anywhere..
I am definitely a voice person.. which is why Ji ChangWook has been my fave K-actor forever. He has a face that can launch a 1000 fangirls into the sky, true enough, but it's his voice that seals the deal for me. He has that silky rhythmic voice that just HIT you in the feels. He is a great actor as well OF COURSE Lee Soohyuk is my close second favorite.. I think he just needs the right drama to lead at this point. He is GORGEOUS, but that voice is KILLER! I am praying HARD for him to lead a k-drama. He's definitely got "IT"
Thank you 😊 Yes, I think it's definitely interesting. Also that they revealed it from early on, but I hope…
You're welcome. I think that backstory about the split is definitely coming and it's going to be the crux of the show and may have connections with the mess the MC is in right now too, they have dropped enough hints about it. Can't wait for the big reveals!
Nice Article! For me, the fact that they revealed the split from the very beginning in the first place is quite a twist on general expectations about the show. I think this decision on the writer's part bring in a different kind of possibility and intrigue, because it is not a MYSTERY that they are the same person, you spend less time on thinking how this character ended up doing a certain thing and if they are the same person or 2 people, which frankly gives you the head space to actually concentrate on how CRAZY and unhinged this ONE person has to be and what the people interacting with him in a scenario are actually seeing, which can have hilarious consequences. It's quite a twist on the split personality trope and I love how as a viewer you are engrossed more in how the two sides interact, where one comes in and where the other is more useful. So far, they have balanced it really nicely, so I hope they keep it going strong.
I love how while entrapped, because she is now pregnant with his child, her revenge for the betrayal is TRULY killing Dae Jin forever and forcing him to live Ho Jin's life forever. Even if it gives him her closeness, the wall of her not acknowledging his true self is the POISONING and will ultimately doom him. Ho Jin was bound to die, but had Dae Jin not played this particular hand and lived next to her and supported her as himself and show the intensity of his love and adoration for her legitimately even if slowly, there was a possibility that she would have gotten together with him, the REAL HIM, but he was too greedy and thus created his own prison. This ending is so much more poignant and haunting than whatever they decided to do with that horrid Hollywood remake.
It's an atrocity that this drama as horrendous as it is in it's second half is rated so well and is on the TOP 10 popularity list on here. Lee Jong Suk is handsome I know, but SERIOUSLY
Gu Hai really struggles a lot with his jealousy and possessiveness through out the story, but his cousin's goes unchecked.
"SuYu is MINE!"
That is all I needed to survive through the rest of the episode and that B's machinations that make me heart-sore.
