DISCLAIMER!!!! The comment below is my OPINION and only my opinion. If you like the Drama, POWER to you! LOVE HARD, and LOVE BOLD.
Watch it for the beauty of Song Kang and You Jung, truly, there is nothing else to this drama. The story is an absolute mish-mash of all the fantasy romances you have seen so far, think Doom at your service/goblin/Tale of the Nine-tailed, etc etc mixed in with a bit of Business revenge fantasy and a touch of a psycho serial killer a' la Strong Girl Do Bong Soon. It's cliche, tropey, and overall TIRED. Only I know how I have endured through this many episodes. 80% of the time I was bored. Song Kang does not suit the role. His dialogue delivery does not hold the snappy, colorful precision that a self-assured, self-aggrandizing, narcissistic demon who despises and looks down upon humans and has lived a few centuries should hold. AND I DON'T EVEN SPEAK KOREAN. He's supposed to be playful, but he seems more unsure and immature, which ruined it for me. He is beautiful, very modelesque, but INTERESTING, in this role? He is NOT. He just does not have that PRESENCE in this role, which is strange to me, because I like Song Kang, he usually does good in his roles. You Jung doesn't get much range either. She is a strong girl boss, and smarter than your average girl, but she will fall for any age-old Kdrama trope, so it's more MEH than Yayyy! Over all, I wish I could get back the time I wasted on this. But ALAS. I got to see some nice outfits and nice interior, so there is that at least. Also, that chemistry that everyone is going on about. It's AVERAGE at most. Because both Song Kang and You Jung are good actors, they are making it work, otherwise the script does not help them out at all. It does not give them enough friction to turn into attraction. There is a lot of falling into his arms and looking into his eyes in slow motion, and frankly, that feels more manipulative than romantic. I did not realize this drama frustrated me this much LOL. Sorry for the rants.
Yes, even in the reset timeline, he still have the tendency to end ALL including himself, his destructiveness…
What do you think about my theory about XW loving JXN since they traveled back to the capital together when they were young? I think it explains why he was ALWAYS from the very beginning jealous of Zhang Zhe's interactions with JXN, because he could clearly see JXN's admiration for ZZ from the very first time. I am not claiming he himself knew he was in LOVE, but I think he does realize it later, that he has always loved her and has always considered her to be his equal.
Another thing I remembered. I love how they gave us the end of the original Xie Wei in Xuening's Dream. Her death right in front of his eyes truly took away any redemption he could have wished for himself in THAT life full of revenge and fury. MY personal opinion is that XW loved JXN from the time when they traveled to the capital together and she saved him and fed him her blood. It was just that in his past life, he only realized it when she killed herself and so at the end of his revenge, his despair took over and he killed himself. But thankfully in the RESET timeline, he was able to realize his love and also his purpose, beyond revenge. Good writing all around!
His face has soft features (sharp if you see it at the right angle - so sharp but it has to be on the side profile),…
God! I remember that. That was one of my first Cdramas and all that Romantic fluff led to some of the most bizzare and STRANGE kissing scenes. Poor Yang Yang was kissing a literal wall. I don't get it. The Kiss in a romantic drama is a culmination of hours long romantic tension building up. It SHOULD be Passionate to the point of being SACRED. Otherwise it totally ruins the payoff. Why is that so hard for ppl to understand?
This is a reverse Harem kind of story, so the FL has 3 love interests. This is a slow burn for sure, but an intense…
Not really, One liked her. And she was close friends with him. But she never really has romantic feelings for him. Two, she liked more, and he eventually falls for her too, but circumstances get in the way. Three, isn't even coded as a love interest from her POV from the get go and is more of an enemy she must keep closer, but he is the one who finally gets the girl, or rather is gotten by the girl.
His face has soft features (sharp if you see it at the right angle - so sharp but it has to be on the side profile),…
Agree with all of the above. He is THANK GOODNESS a good kisser. That is one of the biggest peeves I have with Cdrama. Like if you are not gonna commit, don't put kiss scenes at all!
I think the reason ZLH works so well as Xie Wie is two fold.
First, he does have the acting chops to portray this character. He was truly nuanced when he needed to be and absolutely CHEWING the scene when it was needed. The charisma was ON POINT.
Second, his face really plays a huge part in this. Not in the sense that Ooooh that face is so HOT! But in the sense that he has really beautiful features with a purity to them. His smile can light up the room and you would expect it to. He has a more refined and conservative beauty so it's fascinating how much darkness is hiding behind those pure, illuminated, perfect features and how much he can show it, without overtly emoting.
can someone tell me when they get together, any break ups, any sFL after the ML and sML after the FL? good amount…
This is a reverse Harem kind of story, so the FL has 3 love interests. This is a slow burn for sure, but an intense slow burn. People keep saying they rushed the romance in the last 10 episodes, i'll tell you, they did not. It just comes together in the last 10 episodes. It's not your typical fluff kind of romance though. There are no breakups. And everyone is cordial about it when the Final couple comes together.
I love the fact that even though the main leads are both Grey characters, this drama has an unapologetic happy ending, and maybe it's just my luck, but happy ending has been a rarity in this Genre for me. Especially a happy ending that ties all ends smoothly.
And that is how you put a Beautiful RED BOW atop your perfect GIFT BOX.... I loved this Drama from start to finish! Did it frustrate me in places? YES. Did I want to punch a few characters? YES. Did I want to replay the hot kisses and jealousy scenes? HELL YES!
So congratulations to the makers, the actors. Bai Lu is QUEEN! Always has been BUT Zhang Ling He, I SEE YOU! You were the star of this one for sure!
This was AMAZING! It's not usual to see such an unapologetically DARK male-lead in Dramas and when done right, it's quite memorable! ZLH really nailed Xie Wei and that is what MAKES this drama top class. Bai Lu is good most of the time, and she is good here too, but honestly she did not have much of a challenge here. I think I will return to rewatch this drama in the future for sure.
As a big Yibo and Untamed fan, after watching Ling He in LBFD and now Kunning Palace, I can say for the first time, that Ling He would have made a great Lan WangJi as well. He absolutely has that cold beauty and also the Height and stature that LWJ is supposed to have.
I am currently on episode 17, and people may call it draggy, but I think the suffering and the problems are getting an ample amount of time to actually buildup. Which I often feel gets a bit wishy washy in C-dramas. ALSO, this is the second time a FL has not annoyed me with BABY VOICE in a C-drama( looking at you Love between a fairy and a devil) to the point of me wanting to give up. She talks like a NORMAL person. So that might also be the reason that I keep watching...
Or... may be I just like looking at LYX's face.... Like, do I even need any other excuse???
Also must say, Althought Rowoon is HOT... But it's Seo Ham that I am excited to see.. he definitely has that something something big time! He literally romanced a STONE in Semantic Error and made it work. I can't wait to see him in more projects. He deserves to be the Romantic LEAD, from EVERY Angle.
What's all this constant talk about the age difference? Kdrama is the only place where I have consistently seen female leads older than male leads, even in dramas where that is not a POINT of the story... I see no complaining there. Even Lee Sung Kyung is what, like 7 years older than Kim Young Dae? But I see no issues when "Sh**ting stars* was airing. Did you guys complain when Jung So Min was cast in Alchemy of Souls against Kim Jaewook, who is 9 years her junior? Don't watch if you don't want to okay? What's with the constant whinging and ageism?

Came for my fave Zhao Lusi, but stayed for the sweetest most heart-breakingly beautiful angel Zhe Yuan!
