Back in the days it wasn't easy to watch asian movie (no internet, majors didn't give a f*ck and didn't want to import) and when they were ... ho boy, the subs were something else. (u_u)
Basically, it was the dark age of asian culture for non asian people (at least in france).
But this guy ... don't know how he managed it but he's WEEEEEEEEEEEELL liked in france (there was an event about him in Paris some years ago), and he helped (with his movies) to boost the import of japanese movies here.
The things I like about him: -about Getting Any => he said while laughing "it's a shitty movie" (itw available on the dvd) -he hated the videogame so much in the NES era he made an awful videogame, the goal was to made the most hard, painful, frustrating videogame possible -Outrage (the first movie) has an interesting story: at some point Kitano was shunned because "it's boring, he only make yakuza movie". So he made something different, without yakuza. Then he was shunned because "it's boring, he doesn't make any yakuza movie".
The answer was "fuck you, I'm making a yakuza movie and I'll kill the yakuza myth". Outrage is so interesting in that way: the glorified yakuza, the ultimate male, the real man, became a coward, a greedy hypocrite without honor, a small dick a woman can't even feel ... Even the score was thought this way: he asked Hisaishi (weren't they reunited for/by this movie ? There was a feud between them for a time ...) for a messed up music. I love what this movie represent and how many people, pretending to be movie mover, didn't understand/saw it. A shame the second movie was a normal one, but still good though.
I don't like all of his movies, I don't care for his non-yakuza movies (still have to watch Gonin). Like John Woo I like how he can express much with violence and how much what's he's saying resonates within me (Aniki, even though it's made for the US is still a good story about bond and how blood isn't thicker than water. Love the speech, plus there's Ryo Ishibashi, so go watch it ♥ ).
Anyway, there's a lot to tell about his movies so if I had to pick a favorite it would be Kids Return (interestingly it's a hopeful movie about teenagers, and mostly perceived as it. But on an ITW Kitano said it could be viewed as a desperate tale of losers whom can't achieve anything and don't progress in life ... well to say I was shocked by this idea is an understatement XD ). But zatoichi is really interesting (the dancing scene with the taiko ... gosh that's a must see (O_O), Getting Any makes me laugh (today you couldn't make a movie like that), Hana bi was the first Kitano movie I saw (and I fell in love with his style immediately), Villent Cop is to watch because it's the beginning (and there's an interesting story behind), Sonatine of course (the sumo scene ... ♥ ), Jugatsu (boiling point for the US) is a movie I didn't understand but liked very much, Aniki is to watch to see Kitano taking on the US (and there's Ryo Ishibashi (go watch Suicide Club, The Grudge, An Obsession ... audition is sh*t, don't let anybody says otherwise) , Outrage because it's killing a myth, Battle Royale is often named as a Kitano movie even though he's got a small role (watch it anyway) ...
Yeah, basically every movie is worth a watch because there's something in it, Kitano was the kind of man who made meaningful movies. And Getiing Any. XD
Second ep => mouhahahahahaha I am evil mouhahahahahaha
Please, stop the cliche, it's becoming repulsive. :/
Honestly there's a good base to built the story but the "evil cliche" makes the whole show kinda ridiculous/unbelievable. Plus the twist/cliff' today ... I thought that we already knew that ?!? (O_o)
Good and interesting movie for 2/3 of the time. Last 1/3c is sh*t though. :/
It's strange because for 2/3 of the movie it was serious (and surprisingly coherent given the subject) but after the twist it became somewhat comedy/over serious ... like the writer had a good idea but didn't knew how to finished it. :/
For 95% of the movie the most remarkable thing was Hirose Suzu skirt. And her hairs.
Yeah, it's that ... unmemorable.
Even though it's "enjoyable" (it's high spirited and kinda contagious) the movie was "okay" until ONE scene came up ... an incredibly well driven stupid easter egg scene that totally cracked me up ! XD
And then there's a moral, usual "stupid as hell and touching as a kid's view of life" japanese speech and the whole story became a "yeah, it's dumb but that was a good moment and people should watch it". (^_^)
First ep available => good if a little bit cliche (the ending ... not surprising).
The thing that bothers me though ... there's a a pretty big message AGAINST journalists. They're all evil, greedy, unsympathetic ... yeah, got the feeling the writer has some prejudice. :/
But it's a good start nonetheless, curious to see the rest of the story. (^_^)
Enjoyed it three-fourths of the way through but idk what happened near the end, especially after he met up with…
Ehhh ... you should have. :) There's a good scene with a car near the end, kinda too much but interesting nonetheless. But yeah, after what you said the movie wasn't the same anymore, the writer didn't know how to end his story.
Good job on filming action scene (so rare in korean movie), overused plot, drag in the end, WTF ending ... Definitely not in the top "best asian action movie" but watchable.
In 1995, three female employees at Samjin Company who are given the opportunity to be promoted if they score at…
Samjin Group's English TOEIC Class" depicts a story in which high school graduates who take TOEIC courses together join forces to dig into suspicions related to the company
Oda Yuji is a good actor in this one. Nakajima Yuto is a good actor too. Nakamura Anne is reaaaaally good the few times she's on screen and has the best character of the show.
Problem is ... that's it. I said "is a good actor" on purpose: their characters suck ass ! (>_<) Everything is this show ... best case scenario => it's bland as hell, worst case scenario it's sh*t as hell. The whole storytelling is messed up (the ending doesn't make ANY sense), there's not ONE likeable character (they're all big PoS, human trash, scum f the earth or dumb as a donkey), the subplot are pointless, the love triangle is excruciating, the boss character is so useless I didn't understand why she's in the show ....
But I didn't force myself to watch (well, TBH I skipped the love triangle because it was beyond worthless), the main duo works well enough to enjoy seeing the both of them playing cat and mouse, father and son, sensei and padawan, know it all and freaking clueless ...
Yeah, something to watch while eating, it doesn't deserve your full attention. :/
Utterly sexist, made by a retard without talent whom thought that putting a sexy dress on a woman would allow him to write a movie without making any effort.
*look at the comms"
Ho sh*t ... he pulled it off. (u_u)
Do yourself a favor if you have a brain and using it: don't watch this sh*t, don't talk to people liking this sh*t, cut ties with people liking this sh*t and go watch some REAL revenge movie, movie with a REAL strong woman.
Some tips ? Yeah sure => in the line of duty series, movies with Cynthia Rothrock or Moon Lee, Dreaming the reality ... everything but this sh*t. (<_<)
edit: even Faster Pussy Cat Kill Kill is more feminist than this sh*t.
Benn some time since a sh*tty movie pissed me off like that ... I didn't miss this. (<_<)
Could (and should) have been interesting. But the writer is stupid/untalented, so the story goes everywhere and it's boring, stupid, incoherent ... in one word: a waste of time.
And really ... korean writers need to grow up: poop is funny when you're 5 at best, after that you're beyond dumb if you're laughing when somebody needs to take a sh*t. (<_<)
Irremediably in the best 2020 asian movie (korean or wherever). (^_^)Misfits ... such a well thought name: this…
WE DIDN'T SEE THE DAUGHTER ! XD
She doesn't know the fucked up day her mother/sister ran through, not caring and singing in the mamamoo concert ! XD The whole movie running after the missing daughter and you do not see her in the end => genius move ! XD
Irremediably in the best 2020 asian movie (korean or wherever). (^_^)
Misfits ... such a well thought name: this movie doesn't fit any description. XD In short: a mother and her daughter are looking for the missing little sister EXCEPT the movie is not going to talk about that AT ALL ! \o/
Movie about mother/daughter relationship, choices you made, how hard it is to talk, pork recipes, music, costumes, and stairs.
Touching and funny, not bittersweet, absurd but coherent, Jo Min Soo and Cheetah are such a perfect pair in their "mother is an old rebellious teenage girl while daughter is a young working mature woman" relationship making this movie a must watch for asian movie lovers. (^_^)
And for a little spoil, I liked the fact that, in the end =>

I liked it, but it's irremediably unwholesome.
Not recommended. But watch it. But not recommended.
Yes, this one is good. (^_^)

Midnight Runners, An Honest Candidate, Jazzy Misfits => this is what you wanna watch, these are good movies, this one is dumb. Period.

Don't know what happened but there's 5 minutes that doesn't make any sense at all and then it's finished in the most stupid and unsatisfactory way. :/
