No I agree 100%. there are def scenes where the lightning is way too dark even with max brightness. i mean sure i can see but its still too dark (prob bc they wanted more natural lightning or smth so its looks real without needing to edit)

she was not married but was in a secret relationship with the 8th (implied that they had sex) that some of the princes knew about. they broke up bc he chose to pursue the throne over his love for her

LOL it is very angsty. but what makes this drama good is that there is no mary sue FL and no ultra evil villain. all of them are grey characters that have flaws that ultimately pick certain routes in their lives that they come to terms with/ cannot back down from. - like for example, the emperor kangxi is a wise boss to ruoxi (fl) when she is his tea lady. however, the moment she refuses his decree to marry the 14th prince, she is banished to the laundry department for 6 years. its crazy bc before this incident, he only ever praised her work
I am so annoyed with FL and ML arguing about whether she should be able to investigate the cases, mentioning divorce; it's like a cycle every 3 episodes. I miss when the FL was super smart + super detailed (even though she was incorrect) like the beginning episodes where she predicted the deaths of the buried couples, and figured out who was the one shooting the arrow up in the mountains.
Like I wish they were building a better storyline of the FL and ML working together, falling in love, (not the FL being stupid and investigating by herself, like why is she running like a headless chicken to places without others? Yeah, the guard was following her but he was behind her, not with her). She doesn't have any physical skills like martial arts and is being targeted left and right. how tf does she not understand she should have like guards around or investigate in a team? i know that FL and ML do work together but i just wish there was more trust building around them and again, not a repeat of the every 3 episodes with different romantic scenes
Idk, I feel like everything could be in a more cohesive storyline; im also watching strange tales of tang dynasty so maybe that's why the cases in this one seem worse both in storyline and the leads
agree with @xilines, this drama's overall theme is about how being blood related doesn't necessarily mean family, trauma healing, complicated relationships, etc. romance is very much just a side part that was needed for lingxiao bc of his trauma
