Not sure about this one. I have watched 5 episodes and found myself skipping more scenes than usual. So far I have found it to have way too many supporting characters, a lot of them introduced all at once. In 5 episodes the main leads have barely interacted too, not sure if this is temporary or if most of the drama will be like this.
I will keep watching but for now I am not feeling it. Hopefully it will get better since it is the only "historical" cdrama I am currently watching. Not many interesting cdramas to watch right now. Sigh
So I can be fair, I will not compare it to season 1. It has been many years so I do not remember all details anyway to make a proper comparison.
I gave it a chance and the first few episodes were ok, I was not sold but I kept watching. Somewhere along the way I was just watching to finish it.
Although the actress they chose for the FL is young, I think she is very talented and does look similar to Zhao Li Ying, which makes sense since she portrayed Chu Qiao's younger version in the 1st season. With more experience, I believe she will be a great actress a few years from now.
My problem is that I could not feel any chemistry between her and the actor playing the ML, which might have been due to the age gap, not sure, but it just felt like a big brother and his younger sister, she had more chemistry with the SML and even with him it was not great.
The whole vibe of the drama is completely different from other Chinese historical dramas I have watched, not that is necessarily bad, but it reminded me of western medieval series and movies, which is not what I am looking for in a Chinese drama, it just was not my cup of tea.
Worst of all, I could not connect to the characters at all. Everything felt so flat to me, romantic scenes did not make me smile, deaths did not make me sad or angry, if anything the fight scenes were decent but that is not enough to make a drama interesting. When the ending came my only thought was: meh, I guess I am done, let's mark it as completed. I was neither happy nor disappointed at the ending, I felt nothing.
I just read your review and you also made a good point. Yes, it would probably backfire but the fact that no one even thought about trying it makes no sense. There were quite a few flaws in the writing.
I’m not sure if it’s just me, but lately, Korean drama ratings seem to be coming in lower than expected, regardless…
A lot of people are also creating several accounts to give low ratings and leave hateful comments. I was just told to shut up and was called a b**** a few hours ago because a user, with an account created today, did not agree with my opinion. 10 years on MDL and it was a first for me to have someone be THAT rude just because I expressed my opinion.
This person created an account today, probably just to leave this comment. When you come across people like these do not even reply to them, just report the comment. These are the same kind of people who create accounts just to give low ratings on dramas with actors they hate and leave negative comments about them.
The fact 4 people liked this person's comment, who btw just created their account today, probably just to leave this comment, is what is more shocking. Sigh
Almost 10 years on MDL and this is the first time someone has been so rude. I have had people disagree with me before and not be super nice about it but it was still a discussion, at most they attacked my opinion not me directly. I have already reported the comment for being offensive, hopefully the admins will do something about it.
So, if you are not sure if you should watch it because of the comments, I say go for it.
Yeah, the ending kinda sucks, I wish it had a different ending BUT the journey there was pretty entertaining and not all dramas have to be about the destination, sometimes you just want to enjoy the journey no matter how it ends and for a horror drama you cannot really expect a satisfying happy ending anyway, so you might as well give it a chance if this is your kind of drama.
I had it in my not interested list for almost 3 years because of the comments and decided to give it a chance now because I was out of dramas to watch and I am glad I did.
Honestly, it could have been much better. Started strong but then it had way too many slow moments. The shamanism part overpowered the plot, instead of just being the "how" the app came to be it became the center of the drama.
There weren't enough deaths for this kind of plot and too many times people who should have died got saved. It had the usual characters being stupid we get in most horror content, like characters being told not to do something and they do the exact opposite of what they were told.
I mean, it was watchable but not that great when you have watched several similar series before that were more interesting to watch. It had gore, yes, but I did not find it thrilling or scary enough.
Would I watch a second season if there is one? Maybe, if I have nothing else to watch but it is definitely not a drama that I will be sitting and waiting for like All of Us Are Dead for example.
P.S. - If there is one thing I can say it did better than many other dramas is that the children chosen to portray them as kids looked so much like them that I even had to wonder if AI was being used or if the kids were actual siblings of the actors.
I feel like this was too short, even for a short drama, to show proper plot development. It needed the regular 24 episodes at least, not just 16 or maybe the episodes should have been 20 minutes long instead of 12 minutes long.
It started strong but then did a 180 and rushed through major plot points. I feel like it could have been a lot more interesting with a few changes. Oh well, it is just a short drama afterall, I guess it is my fault for having any sort of expectation after watching the first few episodes.
the AI Is throwing me off so bad, I can't stand it omg
I know, right? I am not against them using AI for dangerous scenes instead of stunt doubles or for small fixes when there is some sort of issue, like an actor dying before they finish filming or something like that. But using it for every little thing makes the whole production feel lazy and cheap, as if they just want to save money without caring about the quality of the finished product.
If this becomes a trend I will stop watching dramas that use AI to this extent. I have had enough of AI videos all over social media, I do not want to have to deal with it in dramas too.
Usually I don't like slow burn drama either; but it's Miles Wei. The drama can be longer. I like watching this…
I agree. There were a lot of small details that made the drama more enjoyable. And for their kind of relationship, it made a lot of sense for them to take things a bit slower. Also, once they got together things progressed pretty fast because by then they were sure about how they felt about each other and wanting to be together.
People are used to meeting, starting to date right away and then spending years dating without ever getting married, look what happened with the FL's friend. The main leads instead spent time together and got to know each others flaws before they even started dating, by the time they started dating they already knew each other and each other's family so well that there was no need to delay things any further. Usually these are the kind of relationships that last longer.
the douban score is pretty high for an idol drama, why's it so low here?
No patience most likely. This is a slow burn romance and most people nowadays, specially teenagers and people in their 20s (which I believe is a big percentage of people on MDL), are unable to enjoy slow burn romance, slice of life, anything that takes time. They want things to happen fast so they can go watch something else next or scroll on their phones.
ppl are allowed to vent..just how you are. even if I know someone will die…doesn’t mean I’ll not speak on…
Exactly. I am someone who sometimes complains a bit too but not about something to be expected.
Like if you decide to watch a drama that clearly has a tragedy tag and a summary that hints at a sad ending, can you really complain because one of the leads dies at the end? You were warned.
Same thing here, it clearly says it is a slow burn romance, are people expecting the main leads to be making out after a few episodes? Of course they are going to take their time to get to know each other, confess their feelings and get together, that is what SLOW BURN romance means.
This was a pretty good drama. Yes, it had some moments I found myself a bit bored but be it the plot, the romance, the characters, the cast and even the ending... it was all pretty good, not amazing but good.
I feel like this would have done a lot better back in 2010, even 2015. Nowadays people do not have a lot of patience for slow burn romance. They want the leads together fast and a lot of skinship to be shown to feel a drama is worth watching.
Nothing against that, I have found some short dramas interesting but once in a while it is good to watch a drama that takes things a bit slower.
" I cannot even point out plot holes because there are plot holes inside plot holes."If you can't point…
I kind of want to re-watch it now just to see if I can better understand some things this time around and if I am able to identify exactly what I felt was a plot hole, I kinda got lost in the plot at some point.
To be fair, there are no plot holes in this drama... you just didn't understand it 😅
I definitely didn't fully grasp everything going on since there was just too much going on.
There is also the possibility people who really enjoyed it chose to pretend they understood everything and this drama was flawless so they can confidently give it a 10/10 rating.
This had 29 episodes and more subplots and supporting/guest characters than some dramas with 60+ episodes.
" I cannot even point out plot holes because there are plot holes inside plot holes."If you can't point…
" I don't really care if you watch Dramas for 15 years, as it is some indicator for anything" - it is because it means I have watched thousands of dramas and have come across all sorts of complex plots yet still find this one a bit too complex, it gives weight to my statement of "I found this complex". If I had just started watching cdrams, saying I found this one complex would not mean much.
"I simply ask you a question if you find the plot holes complex and difficult can you point them out ? So we can talk about it?
If you don't want to, that's fine. " - It is not that I do not want to, I am unable to do it without re-watching at least parts of the drama so I can write things down. It is also 7 am in my country and I have yet to go to sleep so my brain is not exactly in a state that allows me to discuss plot points even when I finished VoS just a few hours ago. That is how tired I am right now. ^^'
If I find time later on to re-watch some parts and am able to think of some of those plot holes, I will come back here so we can discuss them. I cannot promise I will find time to re-watch since I have quite a few dramas I am currently watching or that I plan to watch soon.
oh I agree it’s a weak and irrational flowing script but still pulls you in for curiosity sake. good enough…
The director and also screewriter for this drama has a very unique style and usually people either love it or hate it.
From all his dramas the only one I can say I really liked was My Journey to You and even that one had a disappointing ending, always felt like it needed a second season.
Fangs of Fortune was as popular as this one but it was not my cup of tea, if I had to choose I still prefer this one over FoF.
I also watched Ice Fantasy back in 2017 and almost dropped it right on the first episode. The CGI was really bad and the ending...well, let's just say not many characters were left alive by the end. ^^'
I respect your pov, really do, thank you for sharing your thoughts!I was just thinking lately, seeing many ppl…
I will have to completely agree with you on that. Dramas lately are all more of the same, in that sense VoS was definitely unique and one of the reasons why I kept watching.
I think you can tell by my comment that I did not hate the drama at all, there were things I definitely liked about it, I just did not love it as much as most people in the comment section did.
I will keep watching but for now I am not feeling it. Hopefully it will get better since it is the only "historical" cdrama I am currently watching. Not many interesting cdramas to watch right now. Sigh
