"This is not a good example of how a relationship should be at all", are you saying you only want good relationships…
Dope way to put it. I totally agree, bro. It's not the presence of toxicity, it's the tone. Toxic behavior can be in a story and it work if it's presented as a flaw. But in C.P It's supposed to be romantic that Lian is taking over Kuea's life and eating his personality. And the shit with Yi? Yikes.

Don’t compare this shitshow to my beautiful man that show was amazing and falls under the psychological tag…
Dude, I don't feel like they glorified much in that show. They didn't treat everything the way I would have, but then I would probably be too on the nose preachy if I had control of that show and it would look like a Special Episode of Blossom. Except I would light San on fire in the courtyard, yo.

Like I said, about 70% of it was treated with at least gravity of tone even if we didn't get solid dialog about it. The other 30% wasn't handled right at all. I did NOT say 100% of the show was handled well and Tharn's assault of Type in the shower was a big fat NO.

But I also don't think Type was magically healed. The show ends and bro still has issues out the wazoo. The show ends and bro still hasn't made the cognitive leap that gay does not equate with pedophile. The closest Type gets is "Not all gays". So... yeah, the show never tries to portray Type as fixed. He's even still conflicted about his own sexual identity when the story closes.

That being said, bro if you want to debate me on TharnType, let's go over to that MDL page. I'm down for a bit of that. Although, on second thought it's been a hot minute and I'd have to go rewatch TharnType, so maybe not. LOL. Anyway, Here I would much rather debate you on the merits of this show. (Or the lack of merits in this case)

Agreed. Bro It's hard to like characters like Lian, Yi and Jay for how bad they are. But I also couldn't get into…
Bro, this is true. It depends on how age stands up against social rank in Thailand's reckoning of power dynamics.

From my outsider's perspective social rank trumps age difference. Since you can use age diminutives on older people of lower social class. Such as a younger person of high social class referring to their older waiter/waitress as "nong". Which is totally a thing. But I can't say I'm any kind of expert, yo.

I wasn't a huge fan of TharnType. But I did think about 70% of the time they addressed unhealthy behavior as unhealthy, if just with the tone of how it was handled. Here 100% of the time it's treated as cute.

The comment section gives me Utsukushii Kare flashbacks.... means some people are simply too vanilla for this…
Bro, we get it, we just don't agree that it's good storytelling. Just because we think it's shit doesn't mean we don't understand the social or economic dynamics between an aristocratic South East Asian family blending with a lower class of Eastern Asian family. There is enormous culture differences at play and you're probably less informed about them than you think you are since you monolith-ed the ethnic parties involved all under the heading of "Asian families".

Also, yo, there is a lot of territory between "vanilla" and "I like stories where the male lead has psychotic levels of control issues."

My concern wasn't who was most interesting but in how the show was treating characters who were pulling nasty moves. And the show treats the people doing the most questionable shit like they're in the right and it's cute when they ignore the agency of people they have power over. Dude, it was the power dynamics and manipulation that shot it in the foot for me.

I'll be curious how you feel about later episodes if you keep watching.

I will try and explain as best I can"Instead I'll state how surprising it is that they have yet to give us a good…
Huh. Because bro you sound like all the try-hards giving it their all to 'explain' the plot based on the book.

But now that I know I'm just dealing with your observations on the drama, cool! I entirely disagree with everything you said.

1. Kuea is not 'struggling to reconcile who he is as a person versus what his parents expect of him in terms of being part of an aristocratic family and the son of an ambassador'. Kuea knows exactly who he is. Kuea has entirely rejected his parent's expectations, he just hasn't gotten around to telling them that yet. It's that old thing where it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. So long as they don't know what he's doing they're not really equipped to interfere. What Kuea is struggling with is autonomy and agency. He was obviously never taught he had the right to fight for either and he's been robbed of both by Lian and his f-ed up manipulations. Left to his own, Kuea does just fine. He pays his own bills, meets deadlines creatively and keeps up with his schooling. He's got a badass bike and a night job wowing local crowds with his croons. He even procured secret housing for himself. Except for Kuea's softness for Lian and his reluctance to fight him, Kuea would be solid gold. Lian is more than his super creepy jailer, Lian is his primary weakness. And it looks a lot like fear sometimes. Which, no bueno, bro. Muy no bueno.

(And bro, this is my last point of yours to dissect because that's not normally my bag. I can kinda already feel my inner sarcasm eating my soul. If it takes over no one will be happy with the Hollow ya'll gotta banish. So in a minute I gotta go smoke some weed or go swimming.)

2. Bro, Lian buying shares in Gemini doesn't prove he'd accept Kuea for who he is. It means he's using who Kuea is to control Kuea. And that's a whole different bag of bad motivations. He isn't doing it because Kuea likes to sing there, either. It's about the bet with Yi a couple episodes back. And since when are back-room secret deals, where Lian is calling Kuea to fuck with him the same time Jay is, cool behavior? That's not serving Kuea in any way. It doesn't prove Lian accepts who Kuea is. It proves that Lian's choices and Jay's too are about what they want, and satisfying their egos, not what Kuea might want or need. Which means that Lian is holding out on telling Kuea he knows who he really is for the same reason Jay hasn't told Kuea that Lian knows about Kirin. To get what he wants. And what Lian wants is to control Kuea.

Yo to be real with you, if any of this was about Kuea's best interest then Lian would be ashamed to make deals and bets about Kuea behind his back. That ain't love, dude. If he was half the things you say, then Lian would give a damn about Kuea trusting him enough to share who he really is, instead of forcing Kuea into situations that make him more stressed while basically preying on his affections.

I feel way bad for anyone Lian sets his sights on. Kuea deserves to be free to choose if and when he reveals himself to anyone. And frankly, Lian continues to fail to be worthy of it.

Now, I'm tapping out. I've dropped way too many def beats on this show's lame track. Peace out.

Bro, this reads like another analysis based on the book's details not on the facts from the drama itself.

JDJ is only talking about the drama. If it's not in the drama, it doesn't count. We aren't reading the magic decoder ring so we get Lian's crap.
