A subtle development I find interesting is that, up until a certain episode, every time ZYZ reminded ZYC to kill him, or casually mentioned dying, in front of everyone, there was not much of a reaction. No one took it that serious. Maybe even us viewers, thinking he'll get that mandatory "wake up! You're not a monster" along with a hug/stab from WX/ZYC and get back to his senses or something. I mean how rampant could one realm's malicious energy be? We've seen worse.

Then THAT happens. They didn't even get to try much of anything. Everyone's shocked speechless. WX's mind almost gave up. ZYC looked like he just realized the extent of what he's dealing with.

Two episodes later, the first time ZYZ casually mentions being killed as a solution, both WX and ZYC look clearly distressed and proceed to scold him for it.

Depends. For me it already picked up the pace from episode 1.
If it's only the speed, you can always watch at 1.X. But if it's the pacing you dislike, I suggest you drop it.

Unless by picking up you mean it strictly focusing on the main story, in which case, it happened at ep 15. I'd watch 14 too, as it's about the team.

Yours are interesting guesses, but they still don't answer any of my questions, except about him targeting BJ. But even then, the way Li Lun was trying to expose BJ's nature to ZYZ, he might as well have said it clearly to his ear. Why? What would he gain from ZYZ realizing BJ's not human.

Great points! I'll need another rewatch. Although about WX's godfather, are we sure? I used to suspect him too, but he looked genuinely surprised about the new info of that token being damaged. He could be faking it ofc, but I don't remember anyone ever faking an expression in this show.

I also agree with Li Lun's ideals for friendship, but the problem is he's too idealistic. I think in a way, him and WX are similar in that, they're both too idealistic. The difference is she's less emotional, and more rational. Also whether it's because of being in a vast society, having a family, her shifu, his love of learning, or all of the above, she's more mature. Li Lun didn't have most of the above, so in a way, he's like a kid who hasn't really learned how to move on from a friend who doesn't like the same things. He doesn't seem to know how to move on. He also probably though ZYZ hurt him on purpose, which made him feel betrayed all these years.

But as I agree with his ideals, the only thing making him a villain for me is his means of doing things. He messes with people's lives and doesn't take responsibility for it.

That's the problem. ZYZ was the one who lost his teacher. He was grieving. As they didn't show any signs of understanding that, for us viewers, there's not much development. Hence there's no guarantee they won't react the exact same way next time they feel grief.

Watching the episode again, lots of things happened and I feel like we were distracted from one important thing: Li Lun's game. What was the point of it all?

His demon played the exact game with them that would reveal BJ's nature to ZYZ. He targeted BJ twice. Then let him be.
On the other hand, he made some small talk with WX, giving out valuable info about himself, only to learn personal views of someone whose opinions he's never respected. Why?

Then he let the team join up and do whatever they wanted, including carrying away the injured and leaving the strongest to team up.

Surely he didn't do all that just to die in front of ZYZ after hearing his regret. There has to be more to it. Where's the supposed "game to take my life"?

I refuse to be fooled again lol BJ and ZYZ had ample time alone to cook up some plan together. It also can be that his mother is being held hostage. His father was also very suspicious.

About your second point, the word "disconnect" was exactly how it felt. I expected them to face it and come to terms with it. Not simply go back to before, almost like it didn't happen.
