It's the first time I see a drama's viewers need to explain why it is popular, just because it doesn't center…
And if you MUST compare, you can look at the number of episode ratings per watchers, then compare it with other dramas'. First episode has 45 ratings out of 10K watchers. The other dramas' first episodes have like 170/10K and 80/9K. You see, casual watchers don't go out of their way to rate every episode. Dedicated fans do that. We in our most energetic days, only rate episodes we either really loved or totally hated.
It's the first time I see a drama's viewers need to explain why it is popular, just because it doesn't center around romance and isn't lead by an ultra popular actress! No offense (I genuinely don't wish to come off as rude) but some people coming here leaving these type of questions honestly make me question their thinking ability.
Are you really that much of a stranger to the concept of casual-friendy? Us non fans do exist. We don't choose that one drama we're gonna watch per several months, based on numbers or who's the most popular in China. We don't care about some index number in another country and have little idea of who's the top trend each year. We see a poster/trailer, watch a couple episodes, if we like it, we watch the rest and finally leave some ratings if we feel like it.
Oh ... I dont remember whom I heard it from, but she/he is from MDL only. Seems I shouldnt miss this show, I probably…
There's alway a bit of romance in almost every Cdrama. But if you mean romance-centered dramas, I disagree. In China maybe. But globally, that's not the case. Take Mysterious Lotus Casebook and Reset. Not to mention the most popular Cdrama of probably the century is The Untamed.
Besides, not beating a romantic drama in popularity doesn't equal being unpopular.
Edit: I take it back about China. If romantic dramas were unbeatable, they wouldn't feel the need to restrict and even ban bromance dramas. Had Immortality, Winner Is King, Eternal Faith, etc been allowed to air, the romance drama airing alongside them would be in big trouble.

I was. The drama isn't all that. But your question sounded so odd to me I could only reply with a parody of the romance aspect of it. Sorry for any possible confusions.
This show is so popular, Why ? I heard theres no romance, but its still popular.
Wdym no romance? This show is about an old cute married couple who keep falling in and out. There's also hints of others falling for the leads. In the meantime, the guy's ex keeps interfering with their life and I'm starting to question (despite myself) if the ex might actually have a point.
If everyone talks and moves in normal human speed, and stop staring at each other for so long, probably the drama…
Maybe it's just me but I actually appreciate this drama not going in fast forward like a lot of costume dramas' been doing recently. For instance, for WoH I had to watch it in 90% speed for it to not sound weirdly modern, and for me to actually feel the moments.
Actually that was the impression I got from several pictures and videos I've seen these few days around the web (mostly by accident. I prefer to avoid spoilers). But if I find any of them again, I'll share with you.
I said in despair that there's exactly and only one way for them to really understand his pain, didn't expect it to actually happen ๐ณ Or I might be interpreting the previews completely wrong.

Btw, I wish they hadn't cut the part you mentioned. It'd leave a stronger impression.
