I finished the book so i watched the first minutes of episode 1 and you were right. Lan Wangji truly looked devastated. Reminded me exactly of his brother's words about what he went through after Wei Ying's death.

About Jiang Cheng, i agree. It's still not clear what exactly happened. and the storyteller was actually bribed, so. it doesn't help that in episode 2 when they reminded JC that he had killed WWX, for a moment there was something like regret or hesitation on his face. he's doing really good, Wang Zhuo Cheng.

I'm amazed by Xiao Zhan's acting in episode 25 trailer. The way he looked so vulnerable and then so happy after he heard just the right words.

Totally agreed. and MY GOD, the actor for Xue Yang is good! I like him even better than the image i had in mind from the book.
From supporting actors, I also like Wen Ning and ShiZui's. I saw pictures of cast and knew right away who they were gonna play. They give the right vibe.

tbh I wasn't sure i liked Lan Wangji's casting (specially since i'd been having a few people in my mind for the role) but after watching ep 14, I'm starting to think the actor choice for him was actually spot on.

True. there's also a huge difference for me, between someone who's been living in luxury thanks to his father yet throws tantrums at him all the time and someone who's had to stand on his own feet to achieve his dreams early on, yet tries to explain his point calmly and in private to his mother, not to break her heart.

You're telling me the guy who's studied in Europe since young, would rather find a date online and is woke enough about the extent of racism not to be miserable over losing his dream project, would ask his employed girlfriend to be a housewife?! just him wanting to get married so soon was uncharacteristic enough.

Ok, scratch that. I'm watching GYADL and he's even better. I'm in awe.

Soooooo slow. with the [crazy beautiful] scenery, actors and concept, this should've been my thing, but rarely anything ever happens in this drama. every episode it's 15+ minutes of the leads just starting at e/o with the same emotion.

btw I like how in the end, they didn't give the project to JR despite realizing the opponent's dirt play. It's sad but very realistic.

The thought behind the story is very nice: Where can truly be called "home".
but so far the MC storyline has been kind of boring. From leads' performance to their characters' dialogues and struggles, nothing very interesting, nothing new. I actually find myself caring more about the "cousins" couple.
Jing Ran and his mom's parts are becoming the main reason for me to keep watching. The two's acting feel real and their interactions are heartfelt; sometimes painful and sometimes cute and I'm actually curious about their storyline development.
