i don't remember the ep # rn but there's a part where they mention that prince xiaonan had to surrender some of his people/power/wealth/etc. so the emperor would only grant the marriage after he knew the prince was "weakened" and he had leverage over him (not that it made them any less ambitious lol)
ohmygod... that entire sequence of chu zhao running through the streets and out the city walls to reunite with xie yanlai, RUNNING towards each other, was just so beautiful 😭
