What kind of a sane person sacrifices her own daughter to save her master's child? wtf. I'm really disgusted by…
I actually had a talk with my mom about this topic. She said that this is 義氣, honor, which is an ideal that alot of ancient Chinese strived for. Oftentimes, in dramas, people sacrifice their child for a cause, country, the lineage of their lord, master, or emperor. From a modern perspective, this loyalty seems crazy. I am a mother myself and I can’t imagine doing this.
However, from a historical perspective I get it. The granny said that the Lin family treated the well. Also, the Lin family and servants( slaves) will be exiled. She and her daughter were not slaves, they don’t the sold body letter( sorry it’s hard for me to translate it) so they won’t be exiled. The granny hopes that the Lin young lady can exonerate and avenge her father, that is why she let her daughter be exiled. She also hoped that she can see her daughter in the future or that her young lady can find her daughter.
As I was watching that heartbreaking scene, your daughter most likely will never forgive you for this.
I have seen other dramas were a general sacrificed himself and his own newborn son in order to preserve the last lineage of his emperor, therefore he picked the princess over his child. These people had to make horrible choices. It wasn’t that they didn’t love their own children, they are just willing to make sacrifices at the expense of themselves. It’s a very difficult concept to grasp nowadays. I am not condoning the granny’s actions, I can’t make her choice myself. I am just trying to put it into an historical context and shed some light into her decision.
Houchi and qingmu's baby is so cute, i'm sad for the child that houchi went into a sleep for 100 years while the…
Bai jue took away Shangu’s memory of the time to the Tribulation of chaos along with the memory she has as Houchi too. Bai jue to outsiders ignored his child and didn’t claim or acknowledge the child as his. However, he would visit Shangu while she was sleeping secretly and when he was caught by his son, Yuanqi, he pretended to be Feng Ran. As Feng Ran, Bai jue brought his son to the mortal realm and taught him to play games, and fly kites, all stuff that Shangu likes.
To me, the love between Qing Mu and Hou Chi is an extension to Bai Jue and Shang Gu love that they get to experience…
He is such a cutie. Xu Kai is adorable as Qing Mu. I like their relationship too. I wish that QM went into exile with HC, at least they would have had more time together.
To me, the love between Qing Mu and Hou Chi is an extension to Bai Jue and Shang Gu love that they get to experience…
I know it did seem that they accelerated things. But the 60,000 chaos tribulation was coming up so BoXuan/ Bai Jue needed to wake up to stop it. Otherwise the three realms will end. Or worst case scenario is Houchi will get her powers back in order to save everyone and break Qingmu’s heart.
Your profile picture, is that Hyunjin? Btw, I love ZDY too, she has a natural and unique face and if you watch…
I think that she portrays both Shangu and Houchi really well. Avenue x said that her portrayl of Shangu was too modern. I think that she plays a happy go lucky Shangu and a more reserved Houchi very well. Another reviewer said that when she smiles her eyes get so small.
I think that makes her acting more realistic, she is genuinely smiling. I don’t understand all the negativity. This drama is one of my favorites so far and the acting from all of the actors are great and everyone suits their parts well. I love the costumes too.
I love qing mu too. ❤️ Hope if bae jue is saved somehow after his sacrifice he will still have at least some…
I think of Qingmu as Bai jue, if Bai jue didn’t grow up training to be the god of war and all the responsibilities that it entails. Qingmu is basically Bai jue without all the burdens, so he is much livelier, playful and smiles so much more. He is also more idealistic. I am sad that this livelier side of Bai jue is now gone. I also miss Qing mu’s little paper person doll.
After finishing episode 38, i understood so much about this drama and the story. I will just share my understanding…
I thought that the marriage between Wuhaun’s daughter and Bai Jui wasn’t completed because Gu Jun and Tianqi interrupted it in the novel. I am not sure how it will all play out in the drama.
I am really looking forward to all the remaining episodes. Can’t wait to watch them all.
In ep 31.. huhu I'm confused and very sad at the same time help... When Hou Chi said she isn't Shanggu... AAAA…
The whole two souls sleeping in one body is confusing to me. I like to think that Houchi is Shangu and they share one soul.
Shangu’s soul was shattered and GunJun spent 10,000 yrs gathering it up and the gathered soul became Houchi the egg. Therefore, Houchi is Shangu just that Houchi has no memories of being her until later.
Houchi’s personality is different from Shangu because of her upbringing and the perceived circumstances of her birth, ie her supposed mother abandoning her.
When Houchi gets Shangu’s powers back the power brings back Shangu’s memories and consciousness. So Houchi sleeps when Shangu is awake and takes over the body. So they aren’t exactly two souls just two consciousness in one body, after Houchi gets Shangu’s powers back. I could be wrong. I am trying to wrap my head around all this and try to understand it. I could be wrong. I can’t wait for the new episodes to air so that it explains it all.
Can someone explain what was going on in Ep 32? When Bai Jue went with Gu Jun to get another spear? He saw Bo…
I believe that Tianqi commenter that Bai Jue endured the pain of separating his body for Shangu. Bai Jue wanted to have chaos power and he couldn’t do that with his immortal/god body, therefore he created Qing mu who can use demonic power.
I highly doubt it; they only had about 5 fleeting 'interactions' before their marriage:1st - they first set eyes…
Yuannang’s asks Xu Lingyi to giver her sister 体面 which is like dignity, or face. So by consummating their marriage that was a step for him to give her dignity I guess. I don’t think that he had any romantic feelings for her then.
i unfollow her too. Whilst i appreciate her knowledge of chinese culture, it is rather bit disappointing she starts…
@ SnG I agree with your points. I just want to elaborate on some of them and share my thoughts. "men of that era must be sleeping with all the wives round their clock...“ Why is that necessary? Especially in regards to Houye’s personality and mentality. He already did his duty with each of this concubines except for Concubine Qiao. He has an heir and a spare. He has nothing in common with those women, he isn’t interested in them. He has more things on his mind, such as protecting his family, the sea ban to deal with, than his harem. Before he married Shiyinang he was stationed somewhere else and had only just returned to the capital. He was also annoyed with his concubines bickering so soon after the main wife Yuannang’s death. So does it mean of this era are all like Wang Yu, so lustful? I see Houye as someone who is very disciplined. Before, Shiyinang entered into his life he was very closed off emotionally. So far someone like that why would he pay attention to the concubines who as another person pointed out, he sees as a responsibility. To make it sound worse, probably a burden to him. And they don’t treat him nor his family sincerely. Concubine Wen wants business, material benefits for her family. The quiet concubine, sorry forgot her name, yearns for a child. Which is really sad and he can’t give her one anymore. Concubine Qiao has an obsession with him. He isn’t interested in them so why does he have to be intimate with them? “ Bickering vicious car fights” Not so bad as the palace dramas. What do you expect? You have one man and four women. I am surprised that the catfights aren’t worse. When I watch dramas and these women called themselves sisters, 姊妹, it is so fake and unrealistic. Especially if these women care/love their husband, there is only one man in their loves of course they will fight for his attention. That is way the practice of polygamy was so terrible. The costumes I actually like the costumes. Stylistically the costumes were nice. I liked how it was more tapered and slightly more form fitting , esp for Shiyinang’s character. If it it was completely historically accurate it would be so cumbersome. I actually found a website that that Ming dynasty tried to bring back some Han Chinese style of dreshttps://www.newhanfu.com/12220.html The costume designer maybe took some stylistic license but the style of the Ming dynasty dress did change of the course of the dynasty. The Ming dynasty was 290 plus years long the fashion must have evolved and the designer probably choose what styles and elements that she liked and would look good on the actors.
AvenueX also said that Wallace was too old. He is like Zhang Ziyi to me, very well preserved still looks young for their age if not youthful. They no longer have that youthful look but they still look great. How they look doesn’t bother me, he acts well and carries the story well. He actually looks great paired with Seven Tang, and age wise they are 10 yrs apart.
Inconsistent Ming dynasty etiquette Hmm yea that I can kind of see. I was like why meet up Master Lin in a room alone. But Shiyinang was probably trying to keep other ppl from finding out her plans. Beging saved from drowning, I was thinking maybe she didn’t give her name or station to them they didn’t know, I am talking about Houye’s men. And she wasn’t in the major/capital city so her reputation didn’t get tarnished. Her mom, her maid weren’t going to say when she got home, I was abducted by an outlaw/pirate and fell into the water and a man put his hands on me to save me from drowning.
Those are just some points that I remembered from AvenueX’s review. I was actually looking forward to her review but she is very critical. I would still occasionally listen to her reviews on actors. Her review of Mulan was spot on, but I do not agree with everything that she says. She is very critical of alot of dramas that I liked, such as Go ahead, The rebel princess, and legend of Xiao Chuo. I feel that if she watches some of these dramas that she is so critical of all way through than she would like them more. Dramas are meant to be diverting in are not history lessons. I will decide what reviews I watch of hers, she is very critical. I feel like if she is so critical maybe she should write a drama screenplay or adaptation.
I agree. I was getting frustrated reading comments. That I need to take a break from this page.
Thanks for recommending that website. I actually don’t post much. I use to mainly read other people’s comments. This is an ongoing drama that I really love. I started reading comments to get spoilers. I am contributing to comments because I like to analyze and discuss plot points, characters etc. It is nice to get other people’s opinions for a currently airing drama.
I unsubscribe since she hit go ahead last year. I figure we have different taste. I'll watch what I like and let…
I don’t agree with alot of her reviews. But she has her own opinions and is knowledgeable with some Chinese culture and history things. I actually liked some dramas that she couldn’t stand such as The Legend of Xiao Chuo. I feel that Avenue X drops dramas too soon and she doesn’t give these dramas a chance it seems.
I'm not sure if we are watching the same drama. Shi Yi was the biggest victim of them all. She was being used…
Umm.. how can she tell her husband to care for Concubine Qiao. At the beginning Houye didn’t care for Shiyinang much. Even if she did, her husband didn’t like Concubine Qiao. All Shiyinang knows is that her husband isn’t into any of his concubines. She doesn’t know what happened with them to make their relationships that way. She isn’t there to be w marriage counselor. Also as the main wife, having a husband care for one’s concubines isn’t what main wives prerogative. What women in their right mind would want their husband caring for another women. Granted she didn’t care for her husband at the beginning herself but I am sure her head mom, Madam Lou would tell her to stop and think about Zhonge’s future.
Shiyinang was kind to Concubine Qi, because that Concubine treated her with respect and seemed sincere and kind.
As for Concubine Qiao, would confessing that she messed with Yuanang’s medicine really make Houye like her? He doesn’t like scheming women. I doubt that Concubine Qiao would’ve been a better person with Houye’s love. She is a very entitled, spoiled person. If she got Houye’s love she probably wouldn’t have been satisfied and schemed to get rid of Shiyinang, to get the head wife’s position, and hurt Zhonge because any children she and Houye would’ve had would come second to Zhonge.
Concubine Qiao becoming a better persoj isn’t on Shiyinang. Concubine has to realize her wrongdoings herself, and she did after she got sent to the nunnery. She is a type of person who wouldn’t have been content until she had everything she felt she was entitled to. I am surprised that she actually changed when she was sent away. I felt that, that was fast change in her personality. But I am glad that she seemed like she was redeemed. I half expect her to team up with the Ou family to bring down the Xu family. I am glad that she stopped being calculating and let go of her wants.
