re women not embracing their guys -- I think things are really changing in asian drama, but C-drama is leading the way in these cute period historicals, just as it did in modern romance dramas too. Why was YY's patron, Fu Hai Lin, indifferent as to whether he was destroyed? Our perspective on who holds real power is slowly exercised through the ranks until we arrive at the young Emperor being advised by that rascal Fu Hai Lin, but still open to Ye Xian's allegiance.
While we may have been hoping for the ultimate showdown between JZ and her paternal grandmother Madam Gu, that dispute is not swept away by events, but put in perspective. To be returned to, probably.
Lian, JZ' cousin, proves to be one of those girls who has a hidden but fundamental stupidity -- she thinks the world revolves around her. She makes us realize, by contrast, by just how much JZ is always keenly aware of the social and economic structures in which she lives.
When I first met JZ I called her a brat. But she is a very finely written brat, full of nuance balanced by reasoned passion.
Has someone kept track of how many times YanYun has proposed/confessed to JZ, up to the end of 21 already? and how many times he has asked her if she has thought about the proposal?
Why do people keep saying they are 'waiting' for the proposal? Do they mean the formal letters to the families?
Is it all the fastforwarders ? How much are they actually watching of the show at all, if they have missed even the few moments they care about, once or twice or three times already?

imo, making up theories is what the comment pages are for, among other things! It is all about fun, and nothing better than wondering what the screenwriter has up her sleeve(s). To heck with the gloomy novel-readers.

It isnt clear whether he will become a villain in the next court struggle, but this makes it all more interesting.
If YanYun splits from his Master, then ye Xian, if involved with Qing Lan, will remain sort of on the other side. Given his mercurial and volatile nature, he will probably complicate matters.
