Kingdom 1 & 2 (joseon gore zombies), Dark Hole (upcoming modern zombie), Train to Busan and its sequel-spin off Peninsula (modern zombies), Rampant (joseon gore zombies), Monstrum (joseon gore monster), The Scholar Who Walks The Night (joseon evil spirit / vampire), The Guest (modern gore evil spirit exorcism. it has the most similar vibes with JE imo), Alive (modern zombie), Search (modern military gore mosnter / people with rabies-ish disease similar to zombies).
So much potential wasted. Maybe they will remake it someday with Korean sponsors. Enough with Chinese sponsors.…
I'm here for the 1000% Korean funded reboot. Minus the controversial parts and Chinese props but with the same cast and premise (hopefully). And I hope whoever's in charge of the reboot won't forget to change the names.
girl these people don't care. they see korea as an entertainment centre than a country with its own history culture…
Ya I know right. That's why it needs to come to an end... it's an absurd logic. I don't see the USA as an entertainment centre even though they literally have Hollywood. Why can't these people do the same to Korea? As if the Koreans' life only revolves around Kdrama and Kpop... Make it make sense. They need to stop shrinking Korea's value as a country to a mere circus town and learn the difference between sharing their opinion and demanding something to be done as they wish.
I know ALL of you are sad. I'm sad too. But thinking that "The same standards I look up to and believe as true (or the standards from where I live) must be applied everywhere as well. Everyone else who refuse to live by my standards are hermit barbarians" is a colonizer mentality. (Aside from gender equality and human rights of course since those are universal. We're talking about JE [how history & culture are valued and portrayed] here. Don't take my words out of context)
Also, this is not just about how they portray their historical figures in a fictional setting. It's much more than that. Long-term international disputes are also playing part behind the cancellation. If you don't know the full story and don't have enough knowledge about it then you should not tell people what to do with the matter. How they choose to portray their history and culture is none of our (International audiences) business and concern. All we can do is learn about the situation and be mindful while sharing our opinion.
Okay, you don't see anything wrong with JE and you want JE to continue/rebooted or bought by Netflix. It's totally FINE, that's your opinion and you have all the the right to --!!respectfully!!-- state or explain your point. If you like the series then that's FINE too, no one is telling you not to enjoy it. Nobody is restraining you from watching it either. But calling Koreans --stupid, r*tarded, brainless, and other kinds of insults-- just because they don't want to air a historical series (about their own history) for --you, a foreigner's entertainment-- is just so fucking racist, sick, and ridiculous to me. I've seen it everywhere, not just in this comment section. (And don't even drag their --cancel culture-- to this argument because by doing so you're just finding excuses to justify your racist behavior. Their cancel culture is wrong and toxic but it has nothing to do with this context of JE. Maybe you can bring that up in other conversation that fits the narrative.)
If you disagree with me then kindly skip and ignore this comment because I don't have time for unnecessary debates with strangers online. I'm not Korean, but I'm asking you all to stop being racist and ignorant. There are so many other ways for you to express your opinion withour degrading others or being racist. Thank you.
Um I agree with you except the part thet he does impulsive things, he probably acts aggressive towards the others…
That makes sense. Thanks for the enlightenment!! Another scene that came up to my head was when he drove Zumba Snake and Wusang CEO at 200 km/h speed to the desert loll I could be wrong (again) if that's an impulsive and dangerous thing to do, but personally I really enjoy that scene :) It's like watching a sportscar commercial on steroids.
and then not to mention they got framed as communists. if there are no other people who fought to clean their…
Fighting against dictatorship military regime gov and advocating for a democratic presidential election are obviously not the same as being a communist. They're (Upper classes and that dictator) just making excuses to justify what they did (killing activists and all that so they can stay in power) and use communists as a scapegoat. And then hoping the overall SK public who hate communism (after the Koreas split) will excuse what they did. That's why activism like the students were doing are important so the public can realize who's actually the bad guy here that's stealing their rights. That's my two cents after watching the movie.
omg that lake scene scarred me for real. (i deleted my previous comment to avoid spoiler but now have changed my mind. people should know about this movie)
I'm going to watch 1987 to try and understand the situation betterUPDATE: It was so heartbreaking I was crying…
and then not to mention they got framed as communists. if there are no other people who fought to clean their name and seek the truth, they'll forever be known as communists and not honored as heroes. peaceful innocent protestants got beaten up and shot just so the upper classes can enjoy their privilege a little bit more longer. so messed up.
I think I also used psychopath word in one of my comment but,I or others don't mean it literally. It's obvious…
I just want to make things clear: I’m by no means or intention to justify whatever JW did with “Oh he had mental illness so it’s okay”. Sociopathy and narcissism are mostly nurtured most people aren’t just born like that. Of course sociopaths / other people need to be convicted for the crimes they did conciously. Even cruel psychopaths which many people claim “Oh his /her brain isn’t working properly that’s incurable” need to be locked up in jail so they can’t hurt people. But i feel so bad for people with bipolar for being associated with an evil character like JW and i want people to use these psychological terms in a more correct manner. I hope this explains!
Well,I am also unsatisfied with her reactions when her father died (she cried in jail but after few seconds it…
Right?! If I was in her position (my cute junior who I consider to be friend with is actually a sociopathic shady company's CEO), Vincen needs to call an ambulance.... but not for me. For Jun-woo. Someone's getting an ass whooping. I don't care if I got jailed for assault lol
Um I agree with you except the part thet he does impulsive things, he probably acts aggressive towards the others…
Yes but he didn't see anything wrong with it. He can easily stop Zumba Snake or even just asking "Hey that's not allowed, why did you do that?". He's her boss after all. No way he wouldn't know Zumba Snake's action because so far Zumba snake hasn't act on her own matters (from what I caught while watching). Like when she killed the labor union leader, JW knew what she did even though we only see her discussing it with the Wusang CEO.
Edit: When I think about it, JW hasn't expose his identity yet when CY's father got murdered so okay he didn't order it obviously but he never address it with ZS afterhand either.
And one of the example of impulsive things I mentioned was when he just maniacally beat the shit out of the prosecutor guy and scared the hell out of everyone else including me. That's not planned. Right?
Well of course impulsivity wasn't always the case (like when he swapped his phone. That's a smart calculated move). I'll probably give it a 6 out of 10 chance of him doing things out of impulsivity.
THIS IS NOT A PSYCHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS. THIS IS JUST A VERY FLAWED CHARACTER ANALYSIS.
I’ve seen some comments who are saying that Jun-woo is a psychopath/has bipolar, I think he neither has both. In my opinion JJW is more like a narcissistic sociopath. they can put on a mask and manipulate people however they wish for their own gain. if you double cross them then they’ll lose their charm because for them, you’re now useless and they won’t hesitate one bit to dispose you. They aren’t afraid to do so, because they don’t have a good moral sense hence why they’re called sociopaths. I’m pretty sure if CY keep resenting him he won’t hesitate to kill her. I’m sure of it because he killed CY’s father without even thinking what would CY feel about him. If he truly loves CY (I mean true love not “I will take advantage of you” love), he wouldn’t do that.
He tends to make impulsive decisions in which his only main concern is his ego/pride. This is also a sign of narcissism. I would also want to point out that most of the time he only talks about himself.
[added] You can actually see through his eyes that he’s not a psychopath. A psychopath is someone like Han Seo-joon from Mouse. Look how his gaze is expresionless, cold, and blank all the time. That’s because psychopaths fear nothing. Their brain don’t have the things to process emotion. While we can see with jun-woo, that’s not the case. When his life was hanging on the tip of Vincen’s gun, he’s clearly showing emotion: fear.
[added 2] I would also want to explain a little bit about bipolar disorder. People with bipolar disorder experience sudden unpredictable mood swings : manic (agitated, full of energy) and depressive episodes. With no proper medication or treatment, these energy outbursts and loss are unpredictable and cannot be controlled. Hence why they’re categorized as an illness. You don’t want them to happen. The illness can make it hard for those who have it to do things properly. They are totally different with treating one person in a completely different manner from the other. Bipolar is definitely not the case with Jun-woo. He is well aware of what he’s doing and why he did what he did. He can “lead” babel just fine.
And that my friends, are the combination of good script and research from the writers and good acting. I must give Vincenzo team a round of applause!
[edit]: Should I put this on the discussion board so people can use mental health terms properly? :)
