You can never know, there's no guarantee on how each person will react faced with the actual situation, because fantasy is one thing and reality might surprise you.

Not lots of romance so far. You can see they sort of like each other, but if we didn't know they are the main leads we'd think it's a nice friendship which is slowly starting to develop.

I think that all staples are because Korean audiences like them. For instance I've often wondered about the "Knew each other as children/fated to be together" trope. And many Asian viewers in the comments remarked that it was so sweet and heart-warming and romantic. Go figure!

Well said! And yes, the writers did take a stand too, implying that what happened was the reasonable thing to do. Why? Because most of their audience will think and feel like this, so they didn't want to displease the audience.
