I'm sorry.... Did the ML country invade the Azur and now they're killing everyone who cry blue tears? Uhm genocide…
But ML/Midland did not just randomly invade/conquer Azureland without cause or provocation.
Azureland attacked Midland FIRST and suddenly, almost wiping them out (as per opening line), which then cause them to invade and conquer Azureland in return. Although Midland has the upper hand now, they know Azureland is likely planning another attack, which is much of the motivation driving the ML's actions at the moment.
Yes, the discrimination against Azurelanders is awful and I don't condone death, killing or war, but ML is stuck in a hard spot. He's trying to do his job as a general & magistrate to prevent future rebellion/war (having personally already lost his father to the war) but hasn't determined who among the Azurelanders are rebels yet, so almost everyone is treated as a suspect. That could have been done better probably, but he isn't out to kill any and all Azurelander that crosses his path. We can see he was upset when the SFL had her maid kill people randomly, he even told her no one, not even SFL is above the law (we know she only escaped by trying to use her political ties as a threat and since her maid took all the blame). He also tells SFL that he can't stand her visicousness and how she treats people like dirt (main reason why he would never love her). He's also refused to hand over the Azureland boy to SFL when she demanded it, knowing how cruel she could be. Later, even Ah Fan said when she let the boy escape that she didn't expect ML would just let him go like that (ML never planned to kill him, but can't just out right let the kid go in front of eveyone). Plus, he's been making plans to have the Azureland prisoners pardoned/released, so we know his intentions aren't to hurt/kill innocent people unnecessarily.
So to me, he's been quite fair, given what his job is (find/stop rebellion), what he can/cannot control and the political world they live in.
But honestly I'm here for the romance and that's working for me :) I'm liking ML's character more than the FL so far as he has much more to lose/risk by falling for her then she does for him. And I love a man head over heels in love! But we're only through Episode 12, so the angst is coming soon.
As much as I like the FL character but her dressing is not realistic for a pheasant fishing village girl. She…
Thank goodness I'm not the only one thinking that too! Yep, she's beautiful and I love, love her outfits but I agree it's sooooo unrealistic for her "poor" fishing girl character. I mean, yes she owns a pleasure boat but she doesn't seem to get any real customers (other than her neighbor and the SFL) so it's not like she can afford that type of wardrobe. Yet no one seems to notice or point out that she's always in beautiful almost ballgown-ish outfits everywhere? (Her outfits remind me of Bai Qian's in Ten Miles cause it's so flowy and made from lots of tulle, yet it's even fancier though with flowers and beaded embellishments)! I mean, I love her entire wardrobe but it does take you out of the story a bit when she's trying to hussle for money or being forced to sweep the ML's yard in her fancy ballgown like it's an everyday thing, lol.
Did they do voice over in this drama? I find the ML voice very familiar, but from definitely another drama/actor....
There was an earlier post about this, but yes ML is dubbed by Bian Jiang. If you watch a lot c-dramas, you should definitely recognize that voice. He's quintessentially every ML's dubbed voice these days.
U can call me overreacting..but i really cry when Ai Jing Chu propose to Zeng Li.. their chemistry and cinematography…
The ending couldn't have been more perfect! The bookworm in me totally loved that he brought her story to "life" and that he put the proposal ring inside a book! And agree with you, I loved the cinematography of not just the ending, but the overall visual look/feel/aura of the drama- such warm colored tones, it just makes you all warm and fuzzy inside!
Oh my gosh, I'm so partial to ML, but Yu Yi as SML is such a good guy and a great friend to both Zeng Li and Ai Jing Chu. He's got bad timing and missed his chance with Zeng Li, but he deserves his own true love someday too! I'm so glad he's not the usual caricature of that evil, plotting SML. Because sometimes in real life, love just doesn't go your way, you realize that and move on. He was so mature about recognizing he's not the one Zeng Li loves yet can still be happy for her.
I'm so enjoying this drama as it fills the empty void that "Crush" left behind.
I also love that the ml & fl seem to have such normal jobs and the ml is such a sweet, gentle and nice guy (not your typical "rich CEO" character- nothing wrong with them, but sometimes I enjoy a more gentler type of male lead too.)
Random questions, but I'm a bit confused on a couple things with Dr. Ai's job.
1. So, I get that Dr. Ai is considered a dentist, but he works in a large hospital. Is it common for dentists to work in a hospital in China or is this just a "drama" thing? (Note: I'm from the USA, and most dentists/orthodontists work in standalone offices (not in a hospital), so maybe it's different there?
2. Dr. Ai appears capable of the typical dentist's duties, but in his every day job though, he seems to do more orthadontia work since he was highly involved in Zeng Li's braces. Yet, he also seems quite knowledgeable in oral surgery too (i.e. a couple times the drama has mentioned he's gone through medical school, the nurses refer to him as their "attending physician," he gives college level lectures, and is super knowledgeable on cleft palate surgery (and likely has performed it before)). So would he be considered more of an oral surgeon (or orthodontist), and the subtitles have over-generalized him as just a dentist?
To me, he seems more specialized than what I'd normally expect from a dentist per se so was curious if we lost some context during translation.
In the drama, Cheng Yin had claustrophobia and undiagnosed heart disease (so likely a heart attack) but died while Wu Yan and her were both stuck in an elevator. As result, Wu Yan subconsciously acts and talks like her friend is still around whenever she was lonely, sad or by herself.
(It's not in the drama, but the novel also alluded to it possibly being hereditary (apparently Wu Yan's mom talked to her Dad for a year after his death too)).
I really liked the drama but some parts really didnt make sense at all. Like Her friend died and she got a psychological…
I can see an attempt to pull in and wrap up the Cheng Yin storyline, but I agree that part is not super clear in the drama, just throwing in bits and pieces here and there (Wu Yan & Cheng Yin in elevator in Epi 15 (we'd have to assume she died then), and the later 3 seconds of "Goodbye, Wu Yan" in Cheng Yin's voice at the hospital in Epi 24 (Wu Yan was cured then by finally letting go)). If you blinked, you might have missed it. Cheng Yin's goodbye was a bit longer and a full conversation with Wu Yan in the novel. The drama could have definitely been done better, but at least they tried to close the loophole.
Just finished episode 24. Did they translate it wrong when ML said he doesn't want the baby anymore??? xD whuutNian…
Sorry to disappoint, but the subs are pretty accurate (and he says that line in the novel as well so blame the original author). I take it as more of: "If we lost the baby, then let it be. If I had to choose, I wouldn't want a baby more than I want you." And we already know Nian Qin would always pick Wu Yan over anything or anyone else in the world, even his own baby (selfish, yes but definitely consistent with his character/personality).

Here's a clip before any dubbing for comparison of Bi Wenjun's real voice: https://youtu.be/6gIR6rLNrGI
