He hasn't realized that Xu Yan's ambition was his love.
I'm impressed with how much Xu Yan has grown and Episode 17 highlighted her growth splendidly. She didn't make excuses for her mistakes. No, our girl looked her mistakes dead in the eye, took full responsibility, and then rolled up her sleeves to set things right. Telling Shen Haoming that he doesn't need to feel guilty, in my view, that’s what real sincerity looks like—not perfection, not blame, not keeping scores or making excuses, but honesty and effort. Xu Yan’s childhood wasn’t perfect, and her choices weren’t perfect—but that doesn’t make her unworthy. If anything, it makes her real, and that’s exactly why she deserves love.

And poor Shen Haoming… you can practically see the gears finally grinding in his head by the end of that episode. It’s dawning on him that Xu Yan was never after his wealth, his status, or the shiny accessories of his world. What she wanted was the man behind all of it—just him. But instead of giving her himself, he gave her a gilded cage. He mistook control for care, and in trying to control her, he managed to lose her.

Yep, if he manages to earn Xu Yan's forgiveness and get her back, daddy will probably hand him that coveted board seat. Win the right girl, win the company.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll show her his sincerity. Groveling, begging, blubbering among other things. Lots and lots of tears.

Xu Yan was classy. She held herself back with that little tap. I, on the other hand, am not classy and would have punched Fang Lei on her pretty little nose.

Exactly. They're both flawed and complicated. They are accountable for their words and actions, and no tragic backstory or fancy job title should ever be a hall pass for shady behavior.

Exactly. The father has limited screen time and remains a mystery. Which leaves me endlessly torn: is this man playing some grand “power chess” move to keep control, or is he just the classic overprotective dad who thinks Haoming is not ready to shoulder the family mantle.

Both Xu Yan and Haoming are interesting characters and I think the best way to fully appreciate this drama is…
I just watched that scene. Xu Yan, ya cheeky girl. And the look on his face... and then as they walked away, her cheerful smile and his grimacing smile 🤣🤣🤣 Priceless!

If Shen Haoming fought to keep his son in his life even if he had to compromise and hide him, it shows that he has some good qualities, even if they're buried under his arrogance, pride, and ambition. Majority of Shen Haoming's past still remains a mystery. I see him as someone who is lost and as misguided as she was. Xu Yan is just more honest with herself and Haoming is stubborn and in denial.

She didn't seek him out though. She was assigned to interview him.
Didn't she go into the studio and pretended to be someone else to talk to his staff to gain knowledge about him? Also pretended to be someone applying for a job when they met? Or do I remember that incorrectly? I don't think she's sinister, but what she did is still wrong. Same with him, what he did and what he's doing is wrong.

Xu Yan has to be hard on herself, that's how she'll grow, and subsequently not being hard on himself is the reason why Haoming hasn't grown.

That's a good analysis of his father's motivations. If he is trying to humble Shen Haoming, I think he's going about it the wrong way.

Xu yan was wrong , i agree she shouldnt have lied. But her lies never harmed anyone. Her lying was a sort of defence…
I think that just as Shen Haoming's lies hurt their marriage, Xu Yan, and will eventually hurt his son, Xu Yan's lies have also hurt their marriage, her grandmother, her parents, and her sister. Not sure if Haoming felt hurt, so much of his past and reactions to those lies remain hidden. Both their lies will hurt their reputation, their families' reputation. Like Haoming said, every time she lied, does she think she's safe? No, it lands on him to keep her lies a secret and keep her safe. Not because she begged him to, but because it probably served his own self-interest.

Classifying Xu Yan's lies as insignificant and the consequences that she's now bravely facing as not justified is like saying her growth is not needed. That she doesn't need to learn, to become stronger, to redeem herself. Which would be a shame, because that growth is exactly what makes her arc shine brighter. Xu Yan understands and accepts the consequences of her lies and she's facing them like a lioness, with maturity, with dignity, and with grace. You go, girl!

That’s like excusing paparazzi with the old “they’re just doing their job” defense—as if a paycheck magically wipes away accountability. Xu Yan knew why Shen Haoming didn’t buy her love confession: she’s painfully self-aware that her own lies have branded her a fraud. It’s classic boy who cried wolf, everything she does or say going forward is now sus. The kicker? He was also a fraud.

Xu Yan and Shen Haoming’s situation forces us to sit with the uncomfortable truth: lies don’t cancel out love, but they do shape it. Their deceit doesn’t excuse their behavior, it only explains it. And how much weight those lies carry in their marriage? Well, that’s the part no one can measure—because betrayal is as subjective as love itself.

Or daddy will be impressed if Shen Haoming's schemes lands him at the top. It would be interesting if Shen Haoming does win and ultimately gives it all up to be with Xu Yan.

Same, I don't think his goal is complete annihilation but rather his ambition is to become the top honcho.

Title Love's Ambition Spoiler
Maybe he's cold to her to dissuade her from trying to win him over, again... or he could be testing her, again...…
Wait… he hid their wedding photo?! Which episode was that?? I swear, Shen Haoming is peak delusion—so far gone in self-denial it’s not only frustrating but impressive. The tragic part? It’s not just his own heartbreak he’s cooking up—poor Xu Yan was devastated by his self-inflicted chaos. I’m literally counting down to the moment the realization hits him like a freight train: he lost the woman he loves, and it’s 100% on him.

Honestly, I went into Love’s Ambition with sky-high expectations—director, cast, production quality, all of it. After all, Dating in the Kitchen was quality drama. But wow… it’s blown every expectation out of the water. The acting? Flawless. The props, set design, and production? Cinematic-level perfection. The music, editing, flashback transitions? Just my cup of tea.

This drama isn’t just watching—it’s experiencing. It keeps you guessing, makes you feel every twist, rethink every moment, then hit you with another emotional sucker punch. Truly, it doesn’t just entertain… it grabs you, shakes you, and won’t let go. I am obsessed. ❤️
