novel story is sad, instrumental in plot development unfortunately a lot of nuance around SY is lost in drama...but hey you have to have a recognisable villain...

well, that kinda fits with the novel but they've upended it to emo everything then...bc in novel, Bai Xiao Lu is fox demon captured by xian cultivators. Her mum was killed. Her mum haunts YH to rescue BXL. So looks like Riley is either mum and daughter is trapped/dead or Riley is daughter and mum is trapped/dead (in terms of using novel as the basis).

If both equal power....would both be able to defeat sect leader without needing one to sacrifice for the other....so major changes ahead if so...
