jeoneungd Just like honey and lemon, separately they are opposites in character and personality, but together they make a very tasty treat. A promising beginning of a story and see how these two unfolds. Masks aren’t just for protecting us from illness it’s a great way to protect our feeling an and emotion. I love how from episode 1 the masked is already peeled and the kiss begins.

This episode touches so much about love and sacrifice. This is the story of Phob his life of poverty and the loss of dignity as a slave becoming the determining factor in his desire to free his country and its people from tyranny. In any revolution, there will always be winners and losers. But for Phob, at what price?For what is a man who gains his dreams and aspirations, only to sacrifice the very thing he truly loves?And then there is Tin, who loses everything and yet, in losing everything, finds his true self. He chooses to keep his love within his heart, perhaps realizing that sometimes loving someone means letting them go.So who is freer of the two?History shows us that the first revolution was never going to be easy. And history also teaches us that power has a way of corrupting even the wisest and most idealistic of people. The revolution may free a nation, but does it necessarily free the people who fought for it?Episode 9 delves deeply into the feelings and emotions of Tin and Phob, giving us a glimpse of where their lives may ultimately lead. It feels hopeful, but there is also a sadness underneath it all, the feeling that freedom, like love, often comes with a price.And perhaps that is the real question this episode leaves us with: What good is winning the world if, in the process, you lose the person you love or the person you once were?

The irony of playing and investing with stock options made episode 11 the most interesting one so far. All along LQ treated XF like a commodity and the scene where XF kept the phone and scarf symbolizes he now controls the narrative. This episode seems to also presents the insider trading that happened a lot in the 90’s and day trading specially in option trading. Money was gained and lost in the same day. Though illegal it was rampant. LQ was widely greedy while XF learned the ropes and only one way to make money in stocks, play the long game. That’s what Warren Buffet always says. Its the first time I enjoyed this show sadly it’s also the last episode. XF truly got his just revenge.

We’re only at Episode 27 on Viki, so thank you to those who didn’t put a spoiler warning. 😂 TBH, I’ve made the same mistake in the past and was kindly reminded by another member. Now that I’ve said that… let me rant.This show started so well. The balance between the two leads was great, and their dynamic was one of the things that made the drama so enjoyable. But like many C-dramas, it feels like they’ve simply run out of ideas and are now stretching the story for the sake of having more episodes.This episode involving Zhi Li was so pathetic that I honestly couldn’t believe they made her this emotionally moronic. Whatever happened to strong women? Her character had so much potential, and yet suddenly she becomes incapable of making the most basic rational decisions.And then there’s Meng Ting Hui. Her response to almost everything seems to be shouting and screaming at everyone except the Emperor. That’s not strong or intelligent. It’s just exhausting. The conversations have become increasingly non-intelligent, driven more by anger than by anything resembling strategy or logic.And who else is tired of the Meng Ting Hui–Emperor dynamic? Ironically, the Emperor seems to have the shortest screen time despite being played by an A-rated actor. And that tells you something. Every minute he appears on screen, he becomes more interesting. He’s starting to feel like the real star of the show simply because I’m waiting for him to show up.At this point, something has gone seriously wrong when I’m rooting for the bad guys. 😂 That’s usually my signal that the supposed good guys have completely lost my interest.And maybe the comparison is unfair, but I just finished Ripe Town, which managed to tell a complex, tightly constructed story in only 12 episodes. It showed me how much better a drama can be when the writers know exactly where the story is going.Royal Bethrothal started as something I was really enjoying. At Episode 27, it’s beginning to feel like an epic failure of storytelling and I’m honestly watching now just to see whether they can somehow pull it back.

The symbolism of flowers and hedonism is so evident of this episode. Eating the forbidden fruit that was an aphrodisiac was a classic example and all the reference to love and attraction.

Another trope with a tennis theme, lacks originality to be honest. And definitely lacking character development. Thad unfortunate because their chemistry looks good. I’ve seen better story telling from KBL regarding sports theme matches with only 20 -30 minute episodes.

Finally Huang Bo is paired up with another woman. Now all of them has a girl they can fall madly in love that the men loses their common sense. I find this series to have all strong and opinionated women and an Enperor who likes to walk a fine line. It loses its credibility and I’m beginning to root for the bad guys, or someone to die. Please add some depth to this two-dimensional storyline and add more character to our Emperor. Or at least change the title to “the emperor and his new clothes”. I really can’t find a deep love story, why there’s a sense of obligation other than vengeance and maybe doing the right thing. Please let this end soon.

Though the 1932 historically was a bloodless coup, this show effectively portrays how the nobility dealt with the changes. Though bloodless, revolutions creates chaos and disruption to the norm. As governmwnt learns to figure out what it should be, sacrifices are inevitable. The writers did their homework and beautiful weaves the story of Phob and Tin during this tumultuous times. Creating the tension that keeps pulling them apart, the consequences of the action, and inevitably the life they will live. In the next episodes I’m preparing myself the painful truth and reality. Maybe I would prefer that than a fairy tale ending. Because it would be real. But of course people generally prefer a happy ending. Maybe there will be, but later in life.

I don’t know which was harder to fathom…when Phob betrays Tin’s love or Tin’s father ‘s demands from Tin to give up Phob. Two realities in Tin’s life. Whatever choice he makes some will get hurt and there are consequences. This love story has been told since the beginning of time, even Adam went through the same dilemma with Eve, Romeo and Juliet died in the process. Regardless of the outcome, Ongsa define his finest moment as an actor to date. Kneeling in front of his father begging him to give him the love he wants. And as an audience watching we know Phob will betray him in spite of the sacrifice he makes. We all long and ache for Tin, his love is so true his willing to sacrifice himself. While his father and Phob may love him as well their love has conditions. Tin has unconditional love. I can’t stop aching for him. And as Ongsa sings the theme song this scene will forever etch in my mind. Though I haven’t been a big fan of Thai BL’s tropes and cheesy shows this production deserves recognition and a 10/10.

I’m not sure where the writers are going with this series. It started in a high note like most C-dramas and like 99% of C-dramas it ends with a sour note. The ratings are going downhill I believe because of storyline fatigue. For great actors to play senseless roles and I mean impossible roles to happen in life, the writers should have maintained a variety of challenges for our leads. Oh but it’s the same evil gangs doing the same evil deeds, and the same argument between emperor and our FL, their push and pull is very tiring. And what about the chancellors? The same issue. I longed for someone important to die at this point to. Ring me to depths that makes it emotional, not comical. Is this a love story? But there is chemistry bubbling up, just two persons who share a similar interest. So what is this really all about? I will probably pause from here until the series ends sonI can skip episodes and just see if these two get together. I already have a feeling who’s behind the mask, and it’s someone very close to the Emperor, some near his age so I stopped guessing a while back. New shows coming up so time to switch.

The episode that goes deep in the pain of loosing, reaching bottom as the feeling of anger and revenge begins. The next four episodes feels like it is going to be intense. I love the way season two is focusing on the emotions of our lead actors and how season two expands beyond the house in season one. Very good progression. Sadness. Anger. Hatred. Vengeance. These are the emotions I went through.

Japanese BL’s make the best romcom’s in my opinion, their comedic timing is always perfect. And though it’s another high school trope it’s light and fluffy like a Japanese pancake. With only 8 episode this will happen fast and I’m glad they got the “I like you” out of the way so time to see how our awkward bottom reacts. It’s so manga-style reaction.

If I make it to episode four that means it caught my interest. Not sure whether it deep dark drama or comedy but the comedic part though somewhat slapstick works. But this cannon works long because with 6 more episodes I am grasping on what this story is all about…there must be a reason he was transported back in time

just saw the first two episodes and it’s underwhelming TBH. the story wants to create constant tension that the chemistry is all lost…sure they have the looks but a lot are missing. I am sensing more from Sing and Chinnon in the little time they have together. but of course it’s a tennis match so tension is obvious if that’s what the premise of this series is all about. The writers should have injected a little more character development instead of maybe a flashback in future episodes

I did my review on episode 11 stating I am on the fence with this series and wait u til last episode whether I like it or not. TBH and please don’t get upset but the way this show was written and the screenplay left me with more questions. I understand the ending which you have to wait until the credit ends to explain the why…but…in my own opinion the trope of a show within a show within another show is not easy to execute. It’s like watching Nolan’s “Tenet” which is a beautiful movie but needs several rewatch to catch up. Because of this confusion I also struggle with their romance, I was looking or grasping to find it from the beginning and truly never found it even til the end. Maybe I’m overthinking this series and like everything lose, what’s good for the gander may not necessarily be good for the goose. I am looking forward to future shows of these actors though hopefully not together. The music though, ecclectic and mostly English was done very well.
