I don't think they're following the book too closely for S2. For example, they seem to have changed the lawyer Mr. Cao to the business owner Mr. Chen, and looking at character descriptions/trailers, Guan Qu Er gets a musician boyfriend and seems to be letting go on ZQP. QYY's love interest is also being made out to be the traditional type.

Definitely read the novel! I listened to the audiobook in Chinese, and I thought that it was so much better than the drama. The pacing was much better, especially near the end, and I liked BZH much better in the novel.

Is this drama really that good? I was surprised at how high it's rating is on here when it only has a very average rating on Douban. I tried watching it a few times, but couldn't get past the first episode.

What do you mean? The last episode was pretty rushed, but I thought it was wrapped up pretty well for the most part.

The subtext of his post was "Haha we won, she was forced to apologise." Unless you were around at the time, and could read Chinese, and understand the political context, then you have no idea how bad it was. It didn't matter whether or not she was reading a script, he still inserted himself into the online abuse of a teenager. It was a petty and vindictive move that made him look like an asshole, and I'm allowed to decide not to watch his dramas because of that.

Nice in front of the cameras and in front of co-workers is professionalism. At the end of the day, he's an established actor in his late twenties. If he disagreed, he could have laughed about it with his friends offline. Putting a 16 year old girl on blast was malicious and completely inappropriate, especially considering the context.

Because he thought it'd be okay to publicly mock a teenage girl caught in the middle of a political storm and invite his 30 million Weibo followers to mock her too.

I want to watch this for Zhao Liying, but the lead actor seems like an asshole in real life :( Maybe I'll just read the book instead, even if it'll probably be pretty different.

Just started this, and it's really good so far!

Legend of Lu Zhen is one of my faves! There's some... really tragically bad CGI at the very end though, probably some of the worst I've seen.

Well, that was an adventure. Although I skimmed over a lot of the middle 30 or so episodes, the beginning was good and I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. Angelababy improved over the course of the drama, and Wallace Chung was wonderful. I feel like He Xia and Yao Tian had a lot more potential, and could have been stronger characters, and I wish we could've seen more of Bai Pingting's friends. Rewatch value is low, but I'd give this a 7/10 for personal enjoyment.

I don't blame people for being angry about plagiarism. The author thought it would be okay to make even more money off someone else's work, and the drama's story/characters are also plagiarised if the source material is, and the production team probably knew and decided to make the drama anyway because it'd make money.

For me, He Xia's storyline includes some of the courtly BS because I don't really care about Bailan or his relationship with YT haha. Honestly, I skipped almost every scene that wasn't CBJ or BPT for a good 10+ episodes. I've started watching his scenes again after the time skip though haha.

Sadly, the dramas with big name leads (Tang Yan, Yang Mi, Liu Shishi, Zhao Liying etc.), that are well-known among international fans will always be first to be picked up for subs no matter how good or terrible they are. At times like these I'm glad I can watch raw because I hate Viki with a passion and Dramafever isn't available here :(

I don't think General and I deserves the 3.7 tbh, I'd say that I expected around 5-6 on douban haha. I think one of the objections might be Angelababy because Bai Pingting in the novel is supposed to be average looking and cnetz don't like her acting much anyway. Douban can be surprising though, like Remembering Lichuan somehow has a score of 8.3 despite changing heaps from the novel (mostly for the better imo) and being very romance trope-y.

Honestly, it's not a terrible drama but heaps of dramas that are adapted from novels get tons of bad reviews on douban by the first few episodes because they changed things, just look at Zhu Xian (5.3) and Weiyang (4.9).

Reviews on douban are usually really harsh too, like My Sunshine only has a 6.5 and Song of the Desert has a 6.4. Yun Zhong Ge and Classic of Mountain and Seas only has 3.4 compared to General and I's 3.7 haha. Only the VERY top dramas like Nirvana in Fire and Battle of Changsha will get 9s.
