The novel is good. It all boils down to the watchers' taste/preference. Personally, I'm not into slice of life…
29 episodes is VERY promising if the novel is solid. I'm hoping for something along the lines of a Gu Man adaptation because those were all pretty good.
Yeah and on top of that, the summary only says about Sha Qian Mo. In the original Journey of flower with Zhao…
FGG wrote a spin-off novel about Sha Qian Mo, and this drama is mean to be an adaptation of that novel. The translation on this page is just done badly.
The Chinese title of Journey of Flower was basically The Xianxia Story of Hua Qian Gu, and the title of this book/drama is The Xianxia Story of Sha Qian Mo.
Finished this drama a few days ago and thought it was cute! FL had a great character journey about perseverance and wanting to earn her own place in the workforce/society despite setbacks and striving to become herself. ML was cute, he had his own goals but his arc was more about having a crush and supporting FL. Shout-out to SML, whose role really illustrated FL's character arc and was a decent guy all around.
If you don't like the age difference, don't watch it. Sorry if you're a Dylan fan, but our faves sometimes act in dramas that aren't to our taste and when that happens, we just have to wait for the next one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You are absolutely correct! Jiang Hu is a very important part of Wuxia dramas. I included the dramas you listed…
Hm, I only saw like the first one or two episodes years ago, but from what I saw and info on Chinese sites, it's probably just call it a period/costume drama and danmei adaptation.

Yup, I think a lot of people on MDL just don’t understand the difference between a drama having wuxia elements and actually being a wuxia drama. Like, does Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones have elements of fantasy romance in it? Yes. Is it a fantasy romance show? No.
Btw, I saw heaps of people arguing about Word of Honor you’re absolutely right. It’s classified as wuxia on all the Chinese sites and marketed as wuxia.
While you've picked out common elements of wuxia to explain, you've missed a fundamental element of wuxia.
Many c-drama watchers think of wuxia as having 2 elements: an ancient setting, and main characters who know martial arts. Therefore they think of any costume drama with martial arts in it is wuxia, but that isn't actually true at all.
A key element of wuxia is that the characters operate within jianghu, and jianghu exists apart from the state/government. This means that a story in which characters are too close to the government and gets involved with "official" sources of power aren't wuxia.
So that means that dramas like Princess Agents and The Wolf are not wuxia, but dramas like Ancient Detective, The Moon Shines for You, and Legend of Fei are wuxia.
C-drama watchers on MDL have the tendency to categorise all costume dramas as either wuxia or xianxia depending on if there's fantasy elements, when they could be neither.
To clear up the misinformation in the comments about the age gap, the CHARACTERS are 12 years apart. Qin Lan's character is 35, and Dylan's character is 23. It states in the drama that they were both born in the year of the tiger.
I usually avoid harem shows, I know they avoid sex scenes but its implied and the thought that these men are sharing,…
The intention wasn't for FL's to "mother" the child, it's to protect his position in the family as the ML's heir and the maintain the relationship between the Luo and Xu families. If someone else became the wife, then they would want their own son with the ML to be the heir instead.
It's not really a plot hole because when ML promised to marry FL on the deathbed of his first wife, it meant that the position Yuanniang's son as heir would be safe for now so it didn't really matter whether or not FL had contact with him during the year of mourning before FL and ML could marry.
Really liked this drama because of how undramatic and reasonable everything was. Misunderstandings were sorted out quickly instead of dragging on for episodes upon episodes, the characters confronted their feelings for each other in due time, and the usual drama cliches were used to enhance character rather than add an extra 10 episodes of run time.
The only real let-down imo was JX. He has the potential to be such an interesting, complex and sympathetic character and villain, but I think he was miscast. The actor just couldn't bring out any depth in the character, and it was such a shame.
JC gets trapped inside the demon realm to seal JX (the new demon lord) inside. 300 years later, LX is visiting the Celestial Palace with her daughter to see Shisan gain human form again - she was severely injured 300 years ago and turned back into her fish form and has lost her memories of everyone.
LX and her daughter live in Chongji Yuan (JC's manor) now. The drama ends with JC returning and meeting their daughter and reuniting with LX.
Overhyped? Are you even watching the same drama as me? Nothing about this drama is overhyped. If anything, it…
I said it wasn't a huge hit (e.g. Untamed, NiF, Ashes of Love) but it's still a drama with two famous leads and a solid production team. It's still pretty well-received domestically imo. It was #2 on iQiyi for a while behind Go Go Squid (which was a hit) and has a 7.4 average rating from 70k ratings on Douban.

Haha right though.
Overhyped? Where.
It’s the same few people in the comments here discussing the show, and plenty of negative comments around. People barely watch it because the subbing sucks.
In China? The drama isn’t a flop, but it certainly isn’t a huge hit either.
Unless overhyped means “people like a drama that I don’t” then sure, but it’s really not overhyped at all...
I just finish episode 53 and did not get the concept of Ling Xi tried to avoid seeing Jiu Chen. Why did she do…
Damn, she just died TWO times in his arms, both times under the impression that he wanted her to die. That’s some shit he put her through, even if she’s knows now it was for own good.
She also needs time to reconcile her identities as Lingxi/Lin Mo and think about how to go forward with a relationship with JC given who she is and who he is.
