The drama is actually doing pretty well among Chinese audiences, especially considering its online airing only…
That's because The Untamed is crazy popular! It's got a huge fandom and 400k+ individual ratings on Douban right now.
Context for anyone that's interested:
Go Go Squid is considered the hit summer drama, and it has 228k individual ratings. Other hit dramas like Nirvana in Fire has 320k and Ashes of Love has 227k. TMOPB has 144k.
Love and Destiny has 63k so it falls closer to dramas like Eagle Flag with 69k and King's Avatar with 75k (but both have an existing fanbase).
More context: Journey of Flower has 56k, Princess Agents has 80k, Princess Weiyoung has 38k, Fuyao has 73k.
The number of ratings don't mean everything, but it's still an interesting measure of popularity.
when this show was first announced, i was extremely hesitant, probably because during then love and destiny was…
The drama is actually doing pretty well among Chinese audiences, especially considering its online airing only compared to TMOPB which was broadcast on TV as well. Not the huge hit that TMOPB was, but definitely respectably popular tbh.
Really impressed that the 3L3L team managed to elevate their storytelling to tell a much more well-rounded story with an original script tbh. I'm really enjoying how not everything is about the romance and how the characters in this story seem to have a life outside of all the romance that goes on.
Wow, we’re still talking about this. The series is coming to an end next week, and at this point, I really don’t…
I've said what I want to say, you've said what you want to say, people are free to keep complaining which they still are, other people are free to keep defending him if they want. It's a free forum ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In many interview that I watched, he mentioned that the director always tells him to not put on eyeliner but he…
Ahaha I feel like that's just such a typical Aaron Yan look though, it's been like that since his Fahrenheit days. I wonder if the shape of his eyes and having thick lashes just makes it look really extreme when it's just normal camera make-up.
International c-drama fans really need to stop talking down Chang Chen. Just because he hasn't appeared in any…
And just in case anyone tries to @ me, no I don't think Chang Chen is the most talented or most attractive Chinese actor to ever grace the face of the earth, but c'mon.
Don't compare him to idol actors when he obviously isn't one. Focus on what he brings to the role, and not on things he can't change like his age or his face.
International c-drama fans really need to stop talking down Chang Chen. Just because he hasn't appeared in any of your fave idol dramas before doesn't make him not famous. He's been in a bunch of Wong Kar-wai films, he's been to Cannes multiple times and sat on the jury, has been in hit Chinese-language films, and has films coming out every year.
More subjective, but just because he doesn't look like a typical idol drama actor (pretty, delicate features) doesn't make him ugly either.
Look, I get that a lot of people only follow idol c-dramas and had never heard his name before Love and Destiny, and that's perfectly fine but there is no need to be shitty about his casting.
If rumours are correct, the role of JC was literally written with Chang Chen in mind and we are LUCKY that an actor with his wuxia/action/artsy film background agreed to not only step so far out of his comfort zone for his first drama, but put so much work into his character.
The pacing of the drama is kinda weird to me, (though I somehow oddly find it still work, or is just because I’m…
It looks like LX and JC won't need to fall in love again in the her third life, so I'm cautiously optimistic that it won't be super rushed and a bad ending because the only arc that we know for sure will start in the last 10 episodes is LX becoming the queen of the Shanling Tribe.
The Demon Lord arc will also need to be tied up, but I'm guessing that progress will need to be made from eps 40-50 and the scene where LX "dies" might be her second life death and related to that? So it won't all be in the last 10 eps. I guess JX's arc will be wrapped up soon as we don't see him at LX's coronation(?), but that shouldn't take long.
I'm helping to sub the drama on YT, but it's all volunteer work (we also have no control over when Croton uploads…
Yup. Exactly this. I can usually get by all of the weird faux archaic Chinese while watching and get the gist of the entire scene, but if I was translating then I’d have to spend extra time looking up the definition.
Also an issue that’s particularly prevalent in fantasy dramas is that unless there’s a shared style guide that all the translators use, the same thing will probably end up being translated in different ways (e.g. someone might translate Tian Gong as Celestial Palace, Heavenly Palace, Sky Palace or just leave it as ‘Tian Gong’) which can make it super confusing for the viewer.
Beyond using the same typical genre tropes and a few weirdly similar shots, Love and Destiny is almost nothing like TMOPB. I think it's pretty obvious that a very different story is being told, but people are getting caught up in superficial factors like aesthetic similarities.
TMOPB is about BQ overcoming her ill-fated romances in her first 2 lives and rejection of romance in her 3rd life before finally finding true love with YH in the end.
L&D is about LX having her eyes opened to the world around her and growing into herself through new experiences, with the support and love of JC.
That's why there are LX-related subplots in L&D that JC just isn't that relevant in, because the point of it is to develop LX's character and not the romance. Whereas in TMOPB, almost all BQ-related subplots in her second and third lives served the purpose of moving along the romance.
Because croton want get adsense money if they upload it self at yutub. If 1 million people see they official yutub…
Dramas are made to create profit :P
It's probably because the lead actors aren't that popular among English-speaking c-drama fans so it's not a huge priority to add subs. They can get enough views from overseas Chinese for now.
Lmaoooo @ everyone out here acting like TN's mom was the devil for not being a mindreader, but it turns out that all it took for her to accept HSY into the family was TN being transparent about their relationship and HSY getting his shit together and being polite to his elders and firm about his feelings for TN.
The drama didn't really tell us who killed xiao bai. LC Came to the conclusion that Many people hated JC at that…
I thought it was implied it was the bird, because you see Xiao Bai leave and then you see the bird flying overhead and then next thing you know Xiao Bai is dead. Definitely wasn't implied to be malicious or anything.

Lol spoken like a true American who has no idea what they're on about.
