just finished watching and i agree with the cinematography & dead space critique. the scene on the rooftop on…
Well, at least there was a sport other than basketball. BL is obsessed with basketball - the 7th most popular sport in Thailand, and not even on the list in Japan.
If this series had mediocre actors it would be unwatchable. They'd need lots of gratuituous shower scenes to hold me. I know they had trouble with the rooftop because of noise, but then just move it somewhere else! I guess then you couldn't have the misunderstanding about suicide that allowed a fall and 45-minute long staring contest.
Sorry, I think I might be in a bad mood or something. Anyway, a good director can make a slow pace engaging. This director doesn't appear to have that ability.
It pains me to say this, but that was bad. The acting is excellent - especially Fourth. That is not an easy role to pull off, and I think he did.
But the directing is so bad that it's hard to believe it's a mainstream high-budget production. The sound is incompetent, and I don't mean the rooftop - pay attention to the scene where Kongthap arrives home and the cat is there. The score is oppressive - way too loud and electronic. Why do people equate 1980s video games with "humor"?
The pacing is terrible - scenes have a lot of dead space that makes everything uncomfortably awkward so that I had to take breaks to get through it because it was exhausting. It had no energy - the cinematography was plodding and totally artless.
What a shame that when we finally get another vehicle for this pair that it had to be this mess? This is such a regressive story, and instead of making it Thai, they just tried to copy the Japanese version, but with Thai pacing, which is just death for a madcap comedy.
Fourth is supernaturally cute - besides his looks, his face is so expressive and vulnerable. I could watch him forever.
I've got to be honest, I'm starting to lose interest in this (except Thor & Fluke. Well, and Drake). I'm a bit bored of kiss fake-outs, especially after their already f@#$ing like bunnies. And the Taem plotline is beyond tiresome and just stupid. If there was some spark, or Taem had an interest in him it might be a meaningful plot element, but it's just an annoying obstacle and vaguely homophobic, as if total disinterest in a totally disinterested woman is somehow competition for the obvious physical and emotional relationship between Yak and Dee.
Also, if the love of my life started throwing flour all over my apartment and on my laptop, he'd go right over that balcony. I didn't buy that.
I still like this and I'm not giving it up, but it really needs to move forward. If they want a dramatic conflict between Dee and Yak, it should have always been over Dr. Ter, not Taem, and even that would be as dull as, well, Dr. Ter.
I thought Cher was childish this ep, which was a little disappointing, because he's usually the mature one. If he had had "angry-suspicion" rather than "injured little girl suspicion", it would have been funny and in character.
GreatInn better serve when we get this kiss finally never has a show edged me more when it comes to two characters…
I do care how good a kiss scene is. I don't care as much if there is a kiss scene or not, because no kiss is ten times better than a terrible one.
However, the relationships in this are adult with both characters being in their mid to late 20s, so there absolutely has to be one, and it better be f%$#ing good.
The kissing when they were standing at home made me really uncomfortable - it felt like two guys doing the bare minimum with something they really didn't want to do. The other kissing scenes were better.
I don't really see the point of this episode - but I did like the whole scene with the other couple.
I’ve seen your reviews crop on a few different dramas, and they are *always* a pure delight to read, but I truly…
Sorry I missed this - thank you for such effusive praise! There hasn't been anything on that's downright awful lately, but I'm sure something will turn up.
afaik, people training to become doctors in Thailand attend a university programme of 6 years, and then do a residency…
Which is still a bit old to not know you like someone. I'm gay and grew up before there was any representation at all, and I pretty much had it all clear in my mind by the time I was 18.
That is a dick move on their part! 😡This IS a BL ffs, stop flipping the characters’ sex! Now I HAVE TO go…
It's related to why the bottom usually is very resistant to sex - because a real man isn't supposed to seek a passive role, so he has to be coerced, pressured, or forced (it's very similar to how female characters are written) - whereas a top can still be a "real" man, because he's doing the penetrating, and in a conservative society gays are not real men, so Yak has to be basically straight but is willing to f@#$ a cute boy on Fridays, especially if drunk.
But you can see that Yak is written as a gay character as there is little pretence that he's not totally into Wandee, both emotionally and physically, but thinks Wandee doesn't want something serious. So making him go after a woman doesn't really fit into his character and seems out of place and just keeps the story static. If he were pursuing another man, it would propel the romance because Wandee would be jealous - this makes it seem more like he isn't sure if Yak is really available.
btw, I agree that the change of Taem from man to woman is tiresome. Would really be nice if both partners were…
It would also be better dramatically. When it's a woman, it turns into a "it makes sense for him to wants a NATURAL relationship" situation, whereas if it's a boy there's a more direct comparison and it works better for jealousy, which BLs can't help themselves but to lean heavily on. (Jealousy doesn't bother me in this series because it's a comedy.)
Who carries a childhood photo in their wallet? Although to be fair, mine are so old that they're irreplaceable single-copies, whereas theirs are just prints of digital photos and they can make more if they accidentally get it wet (men frequently forget their wallet in their slacks when they throw them in the wash. I have a metal wallet for that reason).
I'm glad they've toned down the sound effects a bit - it's not so invasive anymore. The dialog in this is really good - Moo is a bit carried away mushy, but it's acknowledged and it's balanced by some sharper dialog, like "you'll give it the thumb's up" and Kang's response.
I like that although Kang is more stereotypically masculine, Moo is more aggressive and assertive. If I were dating him, if he's going to be that sickly sweet & mushy, he needs to be a brutal tyrant in bed.
Anyway, other than the total lack of physical passion, that's one of the most convincing depictions of first love I've seen in a BL. I think Keen is still carrying the series, but I think we got a little more from Sea this episode.
And we got a LOT of Aun in the locker room, which made me happy. But Payos is still my secret crush.
Based on the way this show has handled sexuality, I think the writer and director wanted bisexual representation.
I don't think it has anytihng to do wityh representation. First of all, almost all BL characters are Bi, and we have Dr. Ter. I think it's entirely about NOT wanting gay representation - there's still a lot of resistance to having overtly gay characters, especially for the seme.
I love this series, but this ep didn't do much for me, except for all the hotness and cuteness and lack of clothing.
First of all, the Taem storyline is tiresome, and I don't understand why they sex-swapped from the original. This is a BL, so why introduce a woman where there wasn't one? Its strikes me as homphobic - we can't have a gay top, we need a "real" man. If Taem were a cute boy it would be far more interesting to the story as a real source of jealousy.
It really doesn't work, and made this episode seem to run in circles. It's lucky they have fantastic and fanstastically attractive actors and good dialog or I'd lose interest. But the whole premise of this is wearing thin, Two guys who have loads of hot sex, live together, spend all their time together, are in a "fake" relationship, and don't understand their feelings for each other? That would be fine if they were 12, but not so much for 30-year olds. (Wandee has gone through med school and is past his residency, so 18+4+4+5 = 31). It's starting to lose its authenticity as they're long past any sources of mutual antipathy.
I'm not going anywhere, but I hope the stupid Taem thing goes away really soon.
