As for Nini, she's a great actress but she's recently slowed down. I think it'd be better for her to pair up with someone like Wang Kai or even Ven Gao. Yang Yang is perfect eye candy but he's not an acting powerhouse. I wouldnt tie her to him for a new hit, unless she just wants the CP fans.

Just finished the show a couple of moments ago. Holy cow, your thoughts are spot on. I couldn't place why the FLs character seemed to weaken and be less charismatic and powerful as she seemed in the beginning of the series. They tried to fuse too many things at once... honestly the last 20 or so episodes of the drama and how key loved ones were killed off one by one is reminiscent of the drama 'I Will Never Let You Go.' Exhausting bordering on exasperating, and I usually llike those heart wrenching plot elements. But more than that, the aspect of not allowing character's to be "truly dark" is another aspect of this drama I had a bit of a problem with. Although, Id say Xin Ziyang's character came very close to crossing that line. THANKS for your review. Thoroughly detailed and deserving.

No he didn't do anything "bad" ... well depending on your standards and beliefs concerning sex work/prostitution. He was just sleeping with and buying prostitutes, and got caught and humiliated through video. Many Chinese friends I know deep in C-ent also told me the public opinion on him wasn't that bad, people were more like ewwwwww haha and making memes....probably also because he doesn't have a huge fandom stirring up trouble all the time to tick people off.
But yeah, mayybe he did piss off a bigshot? He was not an insanely popular actor, though people did praise his ability to choose scripts and keep his head down. He doesnt seem like a slimy or EVIL person, just a horny one. Kind of like actor Xu Kaicheng.
I, personally, believe what he did was distasteful because I believe no matter how willing a woman is entering the prostitution/porn industry, it's still victimization to me. And opting for that as an older actor and someone of privilege appears unnecessary. Call me a prude.
OF COURSE Qin Lan's character suffers again after viewers see her constantly fighting for the good of the company but her rivals (like that annoying b**ch and her backer who sleeps to get ahead) always win in the end no matter how much she destroys them each battle. The banter between them was so good too...
Also the subliminal messages these modern dramas she does irks me. It's as if no matter what you do, resigning for fierce career women is the 'evental' route. Hmmm.

Weirdly enough that first episdoe was something out of the Twilight Zone. The rest of the drama, atleast up to the 6th episode I've watched, shows Qin Lan's character as eloquent and a force to be reckoned with in corporate. I don't know what was up with her delivery and why that 1st episode was filmed that way. It's like 2 different actresses were on screen. Though I may be dropping this because of different reasons. Just like in Rational Life, or any modern female centric drama QL has been in, they make her suffer irrevocably no matter how business savy or cutthroat she is. It's annoying. It went the same route of her giving her life to a company just to be persecuted to the point of resigning and starting all over again. What a joke.
