Sure, the drama has potential. I'm just not feeling it and I'm at episode 21 already. Most characters had this…
I haven't gotten that far but I think it was announced that there's 3 seasons of this.... so I mean we should know this is a marathon... I know the development of the lead is a little slow but I can understand it's technically still very early, given that it has 3 seasons. Even at the end of ep 38 which is the whole season 1. We're only 1/3 way through. I like this show so far. I mean it takes time to be at his dad level of scheming. He got potential. I'm watching this leisurely and take breaks to let it build up. It's like watching Naruto LOL there's going to be a long long way to go so just go back from time to time and follow the journey. THat's how I see it. There's just enough suspense in the overall situation to keep my interest. The lead is just a piece of it
I think it's because Liu family has a higher status.
they weren't engaged as kids but the uncle and Erlang's dad arrange the marriage later on. Her dad was away over 10 years. The uncle wanted to use the marriage to pin the copper thing on Erlang's dad and his dad wanted to use her family for strength and protection. This would happen a few years before the show starts. Likely when LR first got to marriage age, which would be around 15/16. Since Erlang was against it, I reckon he kept finding ways to put it off, hence the comment from the maid. During all this obviously LR was more than happy with the arrangement but for her family status, she's "marrying down". I don't think her uncle said he didn't have the power to cancel it. That wouldn't make sense. He was the elder in the family at the time and was entrusted by her father. I think it's just that she insists and he does want to make her happy. Plus, in hindsight, he needed Baili family for his own scheme anyways so it doesn't hurt if he lets it happen.
ML is so stubborn.. like all these men treating our FL with kiddie gloves, making decision about her life on her behalf. DUDE JUST TELL HER THE WHOLE TRUTH. Jeez stop jerking her around. Let her decide her own life. She's a little naive but she's proved that she's powerful and smart when given the chance. She can protect herself. LET HER DO IT. I wanna slap the ML in the face
I didn't watch a lot of the criticisms but as long as they're polite, I think criticism can help psuh us to be…
Yeah I do think dark aesthetic is overrated. I think this show needs to be evaluated as its own entity because it's not trying to be a dark detective show. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm just a little miffed by some of the cliche dramatic 00s style zoom and angle along with some of the directing and editing choices. I think you can have a balance coloring in film without looking washed out though. I personally think a realistic but vibrant color grading would be an interesting look for this era and highlight the beautiful fashion and lavish lifestyle these ppl live against the war torn backdrop. One thing I like about Kdrama is their color grading choices for their shows. It's flattering and vibrant without going crazy (for the most part). I actually love the cross between eastern and western style when it comes to republican era. When done well cinematography and camara work can add a lot to a show like this. It enhance the story telling and instantly transport you to a different time and set the whole mood of the show. That's the beauty of visual media. With good writing and acting, it's hard not to wish the same level is matched for their directing. The cinematography doesn't seem well thought out and quite basic. Honestly, it's all nitpicky though. It's a low budget web drama with relatively young actors so we can't ask for everything.
People criticizing the lighting and filter of this drama, lol, I wish all the dramas had only this to criticize,…
I didn't watch a lot of the criticisms but as long as they're polite, I think criticism can help psuh us to be better. Just don't let criticism of the show annoys you. The writing is very solid in this show so far. A good balance between romance and serious while still keeping the schemes and plot reasonable. Some of these shows either get too complicated with too many fractions or the lead ability to solve these issues is almost god like that it makes no sense. Here we see them deal it with in a reasonable pace. The writers know they're not writing some crazy thriller plot but a romance web drama with a tense backdrop. Each crisis is just tense enough to raise the stake without losing the romance lovers. The acting from the leads are solid. Some are better than others but overall a solid cast. I love the show but I have to admit some of the directing choices and camera angle and cinematography feel very boring and cliche. It's more noticeable to me some times and it takes me out of some scenes a bit because in contrast with the way the acting and writing makes me feel, the weird editing and directing choices sometimes make my eyes rolled. Like really are we filming a 2000 idol soap opera? I think bc the writing and acting are good that it makes the lame editing and directing more glaring. I do kind of wish they have had that little better directing and cinematography, because that would have elevate the whole show so much. Sorry for the long reply, I was dying to discuss these thoughts as I was watching this show
I want to start this bc I love the ML but I'm nervous. Republican area always have a complicated or sad endings with lots of angst throughout and the lead never gets more than 1 ep of happiness. Or it will draw you in for a bit and then it became devastatingly sad at the end. It happen so often I started to avoid this era like the plague. Not sure if this will fall into the same category
She's not smart at all. Just sly. She get people to do her dirty work n play victim to get people to sacrifice…
I mean I think that's part of the smart and evil part. At least compare to ZX, she makes a decent villain. At least she's competent at something. ZX is obsessed and always try to be "the nice guy" but he's so incompetent he just uselessly flailing around making damage and telling himself he's the angel and everyone else owe him justice. I don't like Miaorong by any mean. She's annoying too. I'm just saying if you're gonna be evil. Be evil all the way and know what you are. On the scale of things, MR successfully ran an illegal money operation for years before getting caught, ZX accomplishes nothing his damn life and always telling himself he's the nice one while doing all sort of dumb shit with no integrity. MR is much smarter compare to ZX. Character like ZX annoys the shit out of me. LIke either be evil or be better. Don't just flailing around in the middle making a mess bc of ur incompetence. All so that he can keep his conscience clean while thinking the world owe smt he didn't earn. Put come effort in if you're gonna be all vengeful and what not.
I'm glad I came here to find everyone as annoyed with Miaorong and Zhao Xiao as I am. ZX is hoesntly smt else. Like bitch if you're gonna be all vengeful and refuse to take no for an answer at least be a good villain. He just plain stupid and incompetent. I thought he would grow up a little after LQ saved him again but he continue to be stupid. His incompetence made Biaoning suffer every time but he just never learn. Can we kill him off? He annoyed me more than Miaorong honestly. At least she's smart LOL The king is meh at most. He's not a bad king but way too selfish and childish as a human. His dumbass queen is perfect for him. They're both annoying and not endearing in any way so honestly I couldn't care less when they finally got together. Like why waste a whole 10 minutes to show me this. Wrap it up in 2. I rather see our main couple. I don't find any appeal to these characters to want to watch how their marriage is going... At this point it doesn't make sense to keep Miarong around. Like she's the mastermind of a huge operation. How can you possibly let her go no matter how much your cousin "begged" you. May be it doesn't come across to LQ that she's the mastermind but just one of the ppl involved so he looked the other way. BUT it doesn't fit his character at all to do that. At least send her away. She's scheming against your wife every step of the way. Jeez man. They better save a much much more satisfying punishment for her if they're going to drag this out.
JJY's make up here is similar to her other shows, which is super over the top. However, here, bc of the coloring and the style of her character, it somehow doesn't look out of place like her other shows where the coloring is either super light and clash with her make up, or they turn the brightness it up so much her whole face is just white and red. This show hits a good balance so far (I'm finishing ep1). Also i think because she's a princess with all the extravagant headdress and such, her look makes much more sense and not as jarring as her other shows. Although the costume is bit much, but it's like a poison that counter another poison... It makes this watchable. Only in ep 1 but It looks like they'll eventually tone it down a bit. Altho I gotta say, her agency insistence on somehow dressing her up so much without regards to the logic of every show she's in is kind of strange. Her acting is ok so far. I mean the curse and blessing of being a one dimensional actress is if she's given a role that fit in her box, she will make it work. It's no award winning performance but it works.
if you like rom com, oh my venus is also great. Hometown cha cha is obviously one of the bests as well. But OMV was one of my fav, her chemistry with her ML is just amazing. My girlfriend is a gumiho was good as well from what I remember. She's great in all the shows I've seen her in to be honest.
The misunderstandings are a little rough but it get resolve quick. I like their approach to solving the misunderstandings by letting the couple's action for each other speak for itself. I think once they get together, hopefully this couple will deal with all the storms smoothly. The acting is surprisingly solid with the ML and FL. Lol their little back and forth and his flirting are so well done. Their scene on the bed in Milan after they woke up was very well done and so cute. I'm surprised by their acting! This couple's level of savage is perfectly matched. The script is not bad for this genre. I hope they keep this up and don't do the martyr trope and make one of them forcefully break up with the other for their sake instead of communicating with each other. I hate that so much in C-drama. It's so dumb. These two are very rational and quick witted so far. I hope the writers don't disappoint us
Im Soo Hyang is actually a very versatile actress from what I've seen her in. If it's well written, I think she would do a good job. She acted in everything from shy, insecure, bad ass, childish to mature roles before. I think she did well in all of them. Her comedic timing was great in graceful family. I mean Jane in the OG show is still a grown, horny adult woman not a youngster. Idk why Im Soo Hyang would be considered old for the role. You never know with remake though. If it's a bad script, it will flop no matter who's in it. Just keep an open mind and treat it as its own entity
If I were a producer...I will leave it as it is... won't released it forever. Unless the china govt. allow problematic…
as they should. That's really just basic standard that should be for all rapists though. He doesn't deserve to be seen on TV even again aside from being in cuffs. Just sucks for all those involved in the production, I'm more interested in seeing this story being told properly on screen with a different male lead. That said the gov little crusade on all idols/celebs for just getting too famous with too much influence and dictate what men on TV needs to look like is insane. That said Kris Wu deserve everything that happened to him
Isn't there any way for fans to pressure the channel to release TOOL asap?🥺 ofcrse i knw international fans…
Honestly It's dangerous these days in china to make a scene or create any pressure online as fans.... The gov is cracking down on the entertainment industry like crazy and determined to reign in "fan culture'' Fans makign waves will just draw attention to their idol and ended up getting their idol ban. Then this drama will really never see the light of day. It's best to lay low and be patient. As long as no one in the cast catch any scandal in the mean time, they will release it soon. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is exctly bc this drama is so highly anticipated ealier this month that they want to delay airing a bit to let the hype cool before releasing it. That way it doesn't get too popular and catch negative attention from the government. It's crazy.... There days, being too popular will literally bring all kind of unexpected attention/consequences that can get you deleted from the internet over there
This wasn't as bad as I expected. I was expecting a really silly, brainless drama given the plot, but I think because the actors are who they are, they made it quite watchable. The writing itself is still chaotic and the character's action just don't make sense sometimes. However, I really do think the way Choi Soo Young interpret the role and her demeanor gave an air of elegance to a chaotic character. I can see the same role played by other actress being much more one dimensional and over the top/annoying. Altho the male character is also all over the place, Tae Joon also did a good job with him. He's acted all his life though and he's always been a solid actor so I'm not surprised. I've only seen a couple shows with Soo Young including this one and I gotta say I think she's quite a natural actress. Her approach feels so effortless that it doesn't feel like you're watching someone acting out a role. Not gonna lie I wasn't expecting much since I onyl knew her as part of SNSD and as much as I tried to root for our 2nd gen idols, I'm just not a fan of the acting from some of the other members. None of them are terrible, but they're just alright and quite forgettable. Especially given the sea of super talented actresses in Korea. However, Soo Young did surprise me a little with her acting style. There's smt different about it. I hope she gets to act more and gain more experience. With some more work under her belt, I think she will excel in this. Give this show a chance. If you get through the first few eps, it does get better.
I get what you mean. The editing, directing choices and cinematography really is a bit lacking. The story is typical…
I never watch Seranade Peace of Joy and Royal Nirvana so I can't say anything about it. For the setting Minglan is in, I find it hard to believe a story without female villains. In a society baked in misogyny and women being taught to hate each other like Minglan and the constant harem and weak men fueling the fire, all the women in minglan understandably are just product of their upbringing. The world cruelly taught them cruelty is the onyl way to survive. Like I said, as hateful as they are, I feel sad for them all watching that show. I find at the end, the real villain is the society they lived in. Your issue with the hype and all that is just marketing. Who does their marketing better with more money will get more hype. I'm not going to hold that against the actors or production or let it devalue the work. I've just been giving my opinion on quality of the show itself. How popular a show gets is dependent on star power and marketing. It's basic economics of the industry and sadly unavoidable. It's not fair to hold it against the production itself. There are plenty of giant production with crazy hype that just nonsense to watch. I don't think Minglan really deserve that. It's not perfect but you can tell every actors and crew member worked hard on it and gave every details lots of thoughts and considerations no matter if you like what they ended up creating or not. I didn't mean to bring up Minglan to trigger you and go down an argument. I was just trying to talk about this show and PXR.
The king is meh at most. He's not a bad king but way too selfish and childish as a human. His dumbass queen is perfect for him.
