I'm in episode 20 already and WAIT WAIT WAIT from the spoilers, it seems that ELDEST BROTHER CAN GET AWAY WITH…
It's ancient china after all. If men commit adultery it's all good. THey can even marry them as concubine so no one bat an eye. If women dare to look at another man after marriage, you can basically be killed. They drown women for adultery all the time. It's messed up
I'm at ep 17 but does anyone know when the 2nd son the general will come back? From the poster, it looks like he will eventually marry DiZhu the other lady that was into ML. I actually love her character and think she also deserves true love. Plus once she get to know FL, I think they'll be good friends. The character set up of a broody general coming back gives me a feeling that he will be a good guy but just a little slow with feelings and I'm stoked to see how that play out. Whenever his current wife get kicked out for having an affair of course LOL
I don't know why people are saying that ML doesn't fit the role. He's supposed to be the 4th spoiled brother who…
He is a good fit for the role and I think he does great when acting with other actors. I think he just doesn't have the charisma I'm expecting from a ML. Like there are actors who are not conventionally good looking but their charisma on screen match well with the FL and it works to create that chemistry. I feel like he gets overpower by Bai Lu. He's growing on me though. The couple doesn't give me butterflies but they are so pure and it's adorable. You root for them after a while.
I actually like his silly acting in a way, he is meant to tbe childish and immature since he lives in a rich work…
I do think he grows on you. The only thing that's awkward looking about him is when he smile too big I think. He's actually quite cool and handsome looking when he's just smiling. They're not my favorite pair but definitely cute in their own way. They are very pure as a pair.

Yeah I mean it is China. They can't be criticizing the government. They have to soften the blow with the patriotism propaganda. At least it's brining some attention to the issue. Still a great show though LOL and it's too much to ask a romance drama to protest for reform on Chinese TV. It's a great show so far. This makes for good conversation topic though.

Exactly! Put your money where your mouth is China. We pretty much wasted this planet so really aerospace is where our future as a specie lies. Pay your engineers.

Yea. What I'm trying to say isn't really about entertainment industry making too much or that a woman support the man. That's all fine and it works well for this couple. There will always be someone who makes more than the average engineer. but an aerospace engineer should make enough to live comfortably with their family. Not being so underpaid that they will be broke with one medical bills or can't take care of their family properly. Not only is his profession require lots of knowledge, intelligence and hard work, it plays a huge part in our lives from weather, to GPS, communication, etc. How is a job that vital not paid enough to live comfortably at least. I think the show does pose a question that's more important to China than the righteousness of the pay is that how can China be at the front of innovation if talented ppl don't get paid enough to stay with the industry and innovate. It touches more on the profit side of it all. Hopefully that will help bring attention to this field.

I so agree with this. I think the show is presenting the issue of how underpaid their aerospace engineers are and so much so that talented ppl like Yu Tu is forced to give up because of basic financial struggle. They are being idealistic to say to stick with your dream with an air of propaganda that you should stay strong and stick with your dream even when you're not being compensated correctly. It is China after all, they can't criticize the government too much. However, shows like this would bring attention to this profession and the topic in general. I guess this is how small changes happen. How can you be at the front of innovation when you don't pay academics and researcher enough to continue to innovate. It's crazy
It's the make up style of the era. It's not the prettiest but I appreciate the commitment to history. Idk too…
It's the opposite. She is doing a great job. Might be one of my favorite role with her, but the ML has an awkward aura about him when he's with Bailu that doesn't spark chemistry with her. It feels like he's acting and that's a stark contrast next to Bailu who is a very natural actress and she usually looks so comfortable in the role it doesn't seem like acting. It's not that bad tho. He's pretty decent when he's interact with others. He's a pretty average actor who is not that bad but he's the ML in a show full of high quality acting... I mean it's hard for him not to stick out like a sore thumb. He's a good support actor but I don't think ML role suit him. He's decent enough that it doesn't take you away from the plot though. I'm not watching for the couple so It's doable for me.
Agree ML does not fit this role with FL. Dropped this, not sure if I will go back to it. Do not like the first…
I mean what you're talking about is what I find fun to watch so I guess we have to agree to disagree. I didn't watch for the couple but the family dynamic so all the dramas are fun for me. It's just that type of drama where it's the family drama and the little interaction makes it interesting. I like the third sister in law bc she is evil but not over petty love or jealousy, just simple selfish reasons for herself, which in a way I can respect. The eldest son story is presentative of the type of struggle ppl in aristocrat family go through. I like slow pace drama like this for the plotting, subtle drama and beautiful production. This show also add a modern twist to it with how strong some of these female characters are. I find it refreshing . It's an acquire taste though, so not everyone will like it. I get why. It's alright if you don't.
Honestly I didn't know the novel but I was expecting fluffy, mindless idol romance but man I was surprised by…
I think that's why I like her in this role so much. Reba isn't my favorite actress. I think she shines the best when she's in a level headed and mature role because I think it resemble her the most like this role and love designer. She sometimes get cast in overly naive or too silly FL role sometimes and even tho I think she's a good actress, I just think it didn't suit her well. She just has a very strong charismatic look. I think this is where she shines the best. This role goes so well with her that I also get the impression this is how she is in real life with minor differences. But then again the character itself is in a drama/book so it is dramatize with lots of certain dimensions aren't explored or shown bc it's a character in a book and it needs to be digestible to readers and support the plot of the book. It's a narrative and not a full person with multiple dimensions. Even the confidence aspect is smt in QJJ's mind, she doesn't brag much or come off self centered when she's being interviewed or when interact with others. She is so obviously gorgeous and it's just silly to deny that fact instead of see it as a matter of fact. To deny it would be even more pretentious. I personally don't think it is the core of what makes her confident as a person though. It helps but in front of ppl she loves she still has her insecurities. Like Reba, the character QJJ would probably have certain insecurities about her look as well in different situations, much like Reba with ancient Chinese roles. After all the nature of their job means they are constantly criticized and judge. I say that to say they are even more similar. I imagine the character QJJ in real life, would just be like Reba. Some things you can't fake and it shows when she is in a role that fit her to a T. It makes me like Reba as a person and QJJ as a character bc she portray her so perfectly.
Wondering if anyone could tell me if it’s a worth-watching drama (even tho it’s still ongoing)? I’ve been…
Honestly I didn't know the novel but I was expecting fluffy, mindless idol romance but man I was surprised by the level of maturity and the adult dilemma the couple goes through. Their lines and interactions are top notch. Cute but still mature and not silly/cringey. Both actor and actress fit their roles so well and their characters are level headed adults. I, then, realized Gu Man wrote the novel and it all made sense. Gu Man never fail to write a heart fluttering romance with no cringey dialogue or unreasonable character. Their relationship challenges are very mature and reasonable. They're not together yet in the show but I'm sure once they are, it won't be easy to break them up. This is the time to jump in. Yang Yang and Dilraba are so gorgeous together. I think this might be my favorite role I've see Dilraba in. I have major girl crush. I never was a huge fan of Dilraba but I think this role is made for her. Not just bc of the beauty but I think the strong yet pure and warm character of the FL fit her so well. I just love this FL. She's strong and smart but she doesn't have to be cold or a serious martyr. She doesn't let ppl push her around but doesn't resort to being cold. She's still true to her heart and brave enough to be honest in love without being cringey or borderline imposing on others. I love her character if you haven't notice LOL
I think if this ML was with a more rookie actress, it will match his acting better. Bai Lu is too striking of an actress that they just don't match that well. However, that would make the whole show not as good anymore. Bai Lu really fits this role so well. The ML is not doing bad. His scene by himself or interacting with others are actually pretty funny. He just not that natural in love interaction I guess. It feels too much like acting when he's with Bai Lu. Not male lead material I suppose. Regardless tho, everyone should give this a chance. The story itself is quite fun to watch for all the support storylines and the journey of the CP. I can overlook the chemistry bc everything else is quite well done so far. It's not so bad that it distract you from the plot or keep you from appreciating the CP's story.
The nanny is totally unbearable for me I don't know what happens later but she literally keeps saying "I am not…
I mean the women straight up sacrifice her daughter.... that's hardcore. I was shocked. Her poor daughter. I can see her coming back full of vengeance bc of her mother's cruel act. That was a huge yike.
Why do have all the ladies trimmed eyebrows beyond recognition? Neat brows are nice but this is to much. I did…
It's the make up style of the era. It's not the prettiest but I appreciate the commitment to history. Idk too much about this era but I have to be impressed with the beautiful recreation of this era. It's good for the culture I guess. Like you can't have a Victorian era show without the white make up with crazy thin lips and blush. I think the light coloring of the show help me get used to it pretty quick. Luckily Bai Lu is pretty enough that she's pulling it off and still looking pretty in most scenes. I just started the show but I'm impressed with the production so far. Idk how I feel about the pairing yet though. My impression of the ML is he's average as a support actor so idk if he will be memorable enough to lead a show next to Bai Lu of all people.
oh a korean version of this could be pretty fun to watch actually. Less jumping back and forth between the 2 guys and probably still a funny plot. Hopefully they get good writers for this. I love the tv show
It was an arranged marriage so not much love to begin with. They said all the things about his mom's stroke/heart…
I agree! It's probably going to be super slow but worth the wait. You can tell from the little things he let her do like ask way too many questions than he allow and indulge in her antics, etc. that he has a soft spot for her. It's just going to take a lot for him to give up his solitary life style and see that he's not a burden. That's why dr chu is so perfect for him with the way she cling on and pushes limits while still being respectful and adorable. I feel kind of bad for her. I'm sure it might take all season but I hope when they get together, he try his best to make it worth her efforts.
Well I'm one of those few people. There is hardly anything to look after for the next week.Same thing is happening…
It's not a dramatic shows with sensational plot line. To me, it's a heart warming show about the lives of these doctors and the heart breaking moments they and their patients go through, as well as the strength it took to overcome it all. I find the patients aspects to the craziness of their workload and the little stolen moments from each doctors, residents, etc. so lovely and inspiring. You're right that not really a show you eagerly wait in suspense because it's not meant to be suspenseful. It's like a warm cup of tea that you slowly sip on and enjoy every little moment and character. "no character is there you will find deep rooted" - This is the opposite for me. I feel attached to all the characters from the 5 central leads to the nurses, interns and attendants, even the parents. They did such a great job showing their personality and story without using many words that I'm interested in knowing how things turn out or just watching moments from all these characters. I think it all comes down to expectations. If you want a somewhat quick pace show with like a twist or some dramatic "what happens next?" type of moment, this is just not that kind of show. It's something you put on at the end of a long day to cry for a sad patient and then feel comforted by the kindness, humor and love from everyone in this hospital. With the year we had and all the awful things in the world, this show feels like a hug and I think that's part of the reason why it's loved by many. It's ok if you're just not in the mood for this kind of show, I just hope you don't hate on it but respect it for what it is and just move on to other genre that interests you. The show struck an emotional chord with lots of people, myself included, so it's hard to not defend it, even when I can understand why you're not into it.
Can someone explain the exact situation of Suk Hyung with his ex-wife..? Like do we know why they got divorced..?…
It was an arranged marriage so not much love to begin with. They said all the things about his mom's stroke/heart issue, his sister's death, his dad cheating and his mom refusal to divorce all happen around the same time and I'm assuming it happens shortly after he was married. That's why he just break it off bc he feels like it's too much for her. He went to train oversea after that for a few years and when S1 started he just got back. From this last ep, it looks like the wife had her own family problems to, that's why he feel too guilty putting her through all his family issues with him. He's resigned to being alone forever. I'm glad he got to talk through it with the ex wife and speak up. Hopefully it's a step to help him open up to the possibility of love in the future. I think Min Ha is perfect for him and pushes all his barrier. I ship them so much!!!
Got to the bandit arc and kind of afraid to keep going.... I don't mind the more serious tone bc I actually enjoy that plot of him using his talent in a larger scale. However, is there going to be some vague harem plot? Like is Tan er going to be gone all the way til the end and show up for like 1-2 eps at the end or will they at least reunite long enough for me to enjoy some chemistry and a little sweetness between them before the end? MOST importantly, will I need to watch ML flirting and be all ambiguous and borderline cheat on his wife emotionally without officially crossing the line with the other girl? Just to have his wife comes back like nothing happen and be all fine with everything? I get really annoyed with those type of plot. Especially with harem novel adapt into drama. I stan the CP too much LOL I would want to wait til season 2 before continue if the 2nd half of this will just leave me annoyed with the ML's romance.
