I'm over half way through and I'm continuing to find it delightful. I'm not saying it's gotta be a 10.0/10.0, for everyone, but I can say that it is NOTHING like these negative comments. It feels like some people just enjoy parroting the hate of others.
Don't let someone's "review" or comment deter you from making your own judgement. If it is truly, cold, warm or hot... The only way to know is to dip your own toes into the water to see if it suits your comfort.
I don't recall any mention of his father's name. He didn't really know who his real mother was and was taken care of (raised by would be too loose of a phrase) by a "step (type) mother" that was really more of a servant who died pretty brutally by being used as a human shield for his father.
From what I remember, according to the novel, Hao got everything from his father because he was smarter, shrewder and more ruthless than all the other siblings. This is largely due to his Enigma nature. It is just who he is, and not "other means".
