I can absolutely see the need for time skips. More than once, while approaching the end of a drama... My brain is going, "Man there better be a serious time skip here and STAT!" lol
15 years did surprise me, but we haven't seen the whys yet. However, IMO, it is definitely NOT a reason to downvote an, (in all aspects) EXCELLENT drama's worth at the half way mark.
I wonder, (here on MDL) if the ones complaining about time-skips, also complain about a story taking too long (dragging), and that they could have cut out all this angst for us with a time-skip. As a long time Viki viewer, I've come to recognize a lot of user tags in both of the comment sections. I'm telling you, they must have whiplash.
The next 4 episodes should help us determine if we would have preferred having an extra 8 episodes of viewing 12 years of angst.

Juyeong's love and longing are still there, along with confusion brimmed with anger, and the feeling of abandonment.
The one answer from Dohoe stating that he is not okay, was not referring to the funeral... it was seeing Juyeong. He buried his love, but under what reasons or emotions, we don't know yet. We know he told Dohoe that he trusted his reasons for hitting the previous teacher (which was to protect his friend), and that Dohoe promised not to do it again.
You can bet your bottom dollar that Juyeong's dad didn't reveal the details of how he was beating the hell out of Dohoe who was desperately trying to prevent him from beating his son before the exam. My gut says that his dad reported Dohoe for the simple reason of... Hitting him back. He was enraged about not being able to beat up his son when he wanted to.
Like you, I'm concerned about how long it will take to reconcile all these feelings. But we definitely know that the love is still there. They're just going to have to talk, using ALL the words and do some serious digging.

I found the connection that Juyeong maintained with Dohoe's father, confusing... and troubling. After thinking about it from another perspective, perhaps in his desperation, Juyeong saw Dohoe's father as his only link to, the disappeared without a trace, Dohoe. When he died, that possible link vanished, so he was very upset.
Juyeong was taking the beatings to keep the heat off of Dohoe... But, Doehoe didn't know that. He doesn't know that his father was hot on his heels to beat him before his exam, while Juyeong was doing everything in his power to prevent it.
While I wouldn't want to maintain contact with horrible abusive person, I think Juyeong felt he had to do it for the chance to reconnect with Dohoe. Until we find out more, that's what I think.

This was actually what I was thinking as well. A second season doesn't mean 16 episodes by default. But just 1 "special episode" might not be enough to cover it all.
We won't likely get anything other than our own imagination though. But, hey... We can wish, can't we?
Honestly, I personally would love a Season 2 for the following reasons.
1) Was hoping that there would be a small time-skip bringing Moeum back home... but there wasn't. We need to see Danho and Moeum's family and how their happiness unfolds.
2) Let's also check in on Choiseung and Seokryu's new home, wedding, and the life they've spent 30 years ... + 10 months developing. Queen, not King. QUEEEEN. xD
3) Seokryu deserves much success with her dream, and I want to see it really come true.. in the happiest, warmest, and healthiest way possible.
3) I want to know if Nayun will be successful in her pursuit Dongjin.
4) Loved the idea of Misuk's Fairy Tale Story telling.. and would love to see her in action surrounded by children.
Basically, I just want more squabbling, laughter and hugging all around.
Currently watching ep 9 and I'm bored ! Does it get better ??
The drama is very good from start to where we are today. However, it does begin with a heavy slice of real life, which is definitely not for everyone.
But, if you like Haein and Somin and hang in there a bit longer, you'll be rewarded with something you don't want to see come to an end. The side couple's relationship is also very touching, and fun. <3
