The Legend of the Condor Heroes Episode 1

Who doesn't love a huge fight scene in a huge snowstorm? This is a splendid, high energy episode. With a Taoist on a mission! And a band of martial artists called the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan! And a monk who takes taking responsibility extremely seriously! Gripping origin story of the two sides of competing martial arts teachers of the two heroes I'm looking forward to meeting in the next episode.

Immediately enchanted by the way they have fun with the past here -- the group shot where a team of students opens a big box and marvels at the computer inside! The clothes! The exuberance with which Wu Lei rocks that 90s curtain haircut! I have a feeling I'm going to continue to love the way the acting style is a little on the theatrical side. Pei Qing Hua and Xiao Chuang make a great odd couple -- the serious brainiac and the impulsive dreamer. Hou Ming Hao and Wu Lei play off each other perfectly - they're both nailing it.

Han Seok Jin is just way too good at portraying tsundere male leads. This looks like it may be a good drama, but the trope of the mean male lead couple with his acting skill made me have to take a step back for now.

This drama has a cult following, and it's interesting to see how drama creators can comment on gender and sexuality through cross-dressing comedies, so I thought I'd check it out. But the writing and characters didn't seem like they were going to rise above the dated parts of the production.
