I understand why people might think the story is quite bland, but that's exactly what I liked about it. To me it was about two people who are very independent and level-headed finding their own version of love. It's a matter of taste I guess and like I said I expected some changes to be made. I just wished they were staying more true to the personalities of the characters.

quite a lot, for me it's mainly about the general character setup. There is a discussion thread about the differences. I suggest you check it out, cause they also discuss why the changes were made. But if you don't know they novel yet maybe you should first enjoy the drama and not try to compare. I wish I could do that.^^°

I was really looking forward to this because I enjoyed the novel and like both Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan. But the changes they made are a bit too much for me. I get that changes to the narrative have to be made for the sake of a more interesting story, but do they have to change their characters in such a way they feel like entirely different persons from the novel? -_-

Oh I just checked that trailer. I recognised some of the familiar scenes, or think I did(?), but they were not shown in chronological order. Yeah I guess they have to follow the plot for the most part, so I am curious to see how it will be different. By now I can already tell this version is more serious about the bullying issue which I like.

I watched the Japanese HYD as one of my first drama and I think the main reason I liked it, was because of Matsujun and Inoue Mao chemistry. As I read quite a few Shoujo Manga before I was aware of the tsundere concept and, though I did not like it much, was kind of used to it.

I barely made it through the Korean version..honestly I don't remember why and how.
So I was one of the people reluctant to watch this version, but my friend said I should try a Thai drama, so we started watching this together.

I agree with you, that there is more to it than the eye candy. I can also see they tried to show the characters in a different way and I do enjoy the story a lot more now, despite the acting being only okay in my opinion. My main issue is, that even though they address things differently and it's more up to date, the plot more or less stayed the same as in the other versions. I guess they had to stay true to the storyline and I will withhold my judgement until the drama has finished airing.
For sure one good thing is this has brought me into Thai dramaland, because I also started watching other Thai shows. And oh what a whole new world to discover!^^

But didn't they say something that he was the sister's son and always talk about how in their family everyone went to Todai?
Anyways as I checked online, it's not illegal in Japan to marry your cousin. It is also not here in Germany, but it is weird to most people as first-degree cousins are considered to be more like siblings.
I never heard about that concept of oppa being used with the word"Itoko"(cousin) in Japanese language. Usually they would say the name or their title, like "girl-/boyfriend" or "wife/husband".
Sorry for the rant, but I kind of want to ask my Japanese friends now what their view is, because I think it's fascinating. Who knows maybe it's a cultural difference or they might only use it in story plots.

hahaha I enjoyed reading this so much although I haven't watched any of these drama (only started Doom and been stuck for a while now). Somehow I would love for you to roast one of my favourite dramas..am I a masochist? xD Anyways thanks for your unpopular opinion, those should always be as welcome as fangirling over a drama!

aah this will be really hard to get over. I am not saying there are no flaws in the storyline, and don't get me started on those ridiculous product placements, but I simply love this for the hometown charm, the lovely characters and the cheesy fluff. I am not a fan of rewatching drama, so I'll go and listen to that wonderful OST now and probably many more times in the future.

omg this is the sweetness that I needed! Thanks for reminding me of this drama! When I first read Shin Min Ah is in this, I thought I definitely had to watch it and then forgot about it again. Well I guess it's also good for me though cause now I don't have to wait for new episodes to air. hehe

From the trailer it seems they added some stuff, but in the novel definitely it was a love story between two very rational adults, nothing overly dramatic. Well I guess they had to add some more exciting storlines for the drama. There is a link to English translation in the discussions if you click 'view all'

I was unsure if I wanted to watch this, now I know I definitely have to! But I think I will take my time, because I usually shy away from heavy stuff and it seems like there are many details that shouldn't be missed. Thank you both for this thoughtfully written article!
