Such a fun and relatable article! I am always watching currently airing dramas and you managed to capture all the ups and downs of the experience beautifully.
Queen for Seven Days needs to be added to this list T_T I still tear up whenever I think about the last 10 minutes…
I have the ost on some of my playlists and still tear up when Dreaming by Fromm plays. It is such a tragic story for all the main characters that I even tear up sometimes when the song Miss You in My Heart comes on.
Love the quotes you chose! I have watched all of these dramas and enjoyed each. Because this is My First Life is among my personal favorites. I was pretty disappointed in Hwayugi (possibly due to high expectations), but there were still some very enjoyable moments, characters, and dialogue.
Chicago Typewriter is one of my favorite dramas, but it falls into all three of these categories to some degree.
ACTOR'S AGE GAP Yoo Ah In and Im Soo Jung = ISJ 8 years older Go Kyung Pyo and Im Soo Jung = ISJ 11 years older
CHARACTER'S AGE GAP Unknown but when they meet, the Male Lead (YAI) and Second Lead (GKP) are both young adult men and the FL (ISJ) is only 13 years old.
THE BAD - The actress is 8-11 years older than that of the ml and sl actors despite playing a character with an age gap younger than the ml and sl. This is extremely obvious especially since the male actors look young.
THE AWKWARD - The ML and SL are both adult young men when they meet the 13-year-old fl (see spoiler below). When she grows into a young women they develop romantic feelings for her.
THE GOOD - Despite the actress having a very obvious age discrepancy from that of the character she plays, and the awkwardness of two adult men developing romantic feelings for a woman they have known (see spoiler below) since she was 13, this drama works in every way. The story, the acting, the poduction, and soundtrack were so good that I became completely immersed in the story and found it beautiful mainly due to the friendship and love between the three leads.
i kindaaaaa agree with the age gap in romance is a bonus book? it's more of a casting issue imo. i liked their…
Same. I watched the series but I actually felt aware of the age gap the entire time. This made me feel sad for both the characters and the actors. I even tried to rewatch it thinking that I might not be so aware of it but that did not work. I still cannot bring myself to rate the drama due to this issue.
best female lead in kdrama, the "strong female lead" tag usualy means anoying. they should create a new tag called…
The only downfall to her being such a great actress is that I compare the actresses in the dramas I'm currently watching to her and think of how much better the drama would be if Seo Ye Ji were the main female lead.
I just want to say that this is one way to write a good female character. She is so smart and wants to find out…
The character Cha Ji Won is very impressive! I was so worried that the writers would have her focus too much on feeling hurt or betrayed, but instead, she stops to think everything through despite all that she is going through on an emotional level as a wife and mother and detective. This makes for a far more interesting story. I am now just as excited to see what Cha Ji Won will do next as I am to see what Baek Hee Sung will do!
I understand what you are saying. I also love this drama and look forward to watching each episode, but this has…
I actually thought her acting as a detective was not as off as some of the other moments. And I agree that episodes five and six is where she was at her best. Perhaps my expectations were high due to her work in Good Doctor, or I just needed to adjust to the personality of her new character that is very different from her character in the good doctor. :) Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
