This is very true. The mystery of MY's and KT's mothers and the murders has been there from the very start,
From the very first episode, many people have been discussing if MY's mom is alive, and guessing who might be MY's mom, and wondering what MY's connection might be to the murder of KT's mom. So it does not feel out of place or poorly thought out at all.
I am also impressed with how they have maintained focus on the KT/MY/ST family development throughout the secrets and mysteries being discovered.

I like that he is still an edgy and intense character.

Same! I have rewatched it at least twice a year since it first aired. It is one of my "go tos" every time I can't find a drama that interests me.

When MY was being strangled by the hospital patient, and she imagined the patient as her father strangling her, Kang Tae came up behind them to grab the patient in the present, so I assumed that it was him in that scene behind the patient with MY still imagining her father's face.
If there is still a person in the other scenes of her father strangling her in the actual past, perhaps it could be the head nurse or Kang Tae's mother since she was the housekeeper.
I will have to rewatch the other strangling scenes this week lol

I will not be disappointed if she is the mom since the KT MY ST family have already committed to staying together. I just think it makes more sense for the Head Nurse to be MY's mother's sister. Either way, I love IOTNB

I still believe that she is not MY's mother, but her mom's sister or something. It would fit the fairy tale / Wizard of Oz theme.
But I will be happy either way if it ends happy.
