Well it's never been this hard for me to wrap my head around how I feel about a show (and in some sense I guess…
I agree. I truly love this series overall, but the unique atmosphere created by the chemistry and interactions of the characters was completely broken by the scenes of the apartment makeover, the hugging/cooking scene, and the amusement park. These characters deserved their newly forming relationship to be portrayed with sincerity and depth through meaningful moments of subtle yet intense interactions throughout ordinary days not contrived superficial rom-com tropes.
I do not understand all the comments expressing disappointment over the writers removing the sibling incest trope.…
The hints given by the writers regarding the mystery of the true nature of the relationship of the main leads were very balanced and on par with other dramas using this device.
There is nothing that hinted that they intended to use the incest theme. In fact, they went as far as to give no hints as to the fact the child in his memories was even a female.
Most viewers came in knowing or eventually knowing the sibling incest relationship. I believe this clouded their ability to experience the mystery of their relationship objectively.
Many viewers began the drama with prejudices, even accusing the Korean audience of not being able to handle this taboo trope and speculating that the writers would take (in their own opinion) the easier route of omitting it.
The frustrating plot holes including the use of easily solved misunderstandings, noble idiocy, and other tropes that lead to the tragic ending, are the common flaws in many dramas including the original.
IMO ~The acting and characters, as well as the production, are so beautiful that watching the drama is still a wonderful experience and worth overlooking the flaws.

I do not understand all the comments expressing disappointment over the writers removing the sibling incest trope. Even in the original, it was never necessary to the plot. It was not the core of the love and attraction that drew the ML and FL together. The only part it played was a means for the ML to separate from the FL in a moment of noble idiocy. The FL's choice to murder the ML at the end had nothing to do with incest. It did not add in any way to the exploration of human nature vs nurture or good vs evil. I should also mention that I am not offended by or intolerant of the theme of incest in literature, theater or film. I grew up reading and enjoying Greek mythology, pop teen Gothic novels, and literary classics with incest as a theme. I just found it annoying since it felt lazy as if the writers just threw an easy taboo in for shock appeal in the original story.

Yes. And all the characters are responsible for killing someone.
Jealous Girl (K-Yoo Ri ) obsessed with ML kills a female student FL brother kills ML father *FL best friend (K-Seung Ah) shoots fiance (K- WooSang) *Fl best friend (K-Seung Ah) kills self ML shoots the sister of FL best friend's fiance's sister (k-Seung Ah *FL shoots ML *FL shoots self

I am sure that the original feels dated now and it had tropes and flaws, but it also had its strong points. At the time it was a favorite. The ML was an extremely dark over the top psychopath which gave more validity to FL's brother's concern for her. It also made the ML's change more significant by comparison and gave a sense of poetic justice and karma to the ML's death. The ML dies being able to actually experience the pain and loss of love and life from knowing that he was murdered by his love in the name of her horrid brother.
In the end, I remember feeling that when given the circumstances, the brother and FL were not all that different from the ML.
Number 4. Jealousy Incarnate! My Struggle, What I loved.... The ML / SL lifelong friendship and their recent love rivalry which was at times over the top ridiculous (laughed so hard), and other times very raw and emotional (cried even harder). They were the OTP as friends in this series.
What I loved /hated equally... The FL's struggle to decide between the narcissistic ML who was always cruel to her and the gentle and kind SL who was kind and cheered her on. She did not put herself in the situation. I felt this right along with her and the ML/SL,
What I hated really really hated... The FL's proposed plan to choose the right guy. It was contrived, selfish, shallow, cruel and completely out of character. It was also absolutely unnecessary since the writers could have found any other way to create a cohabitation scenario. I had to remember it was the writer's flaw and not the FL to keep from hating her for this.
If you are waiting for better English subs, I was able to get through the bad subs by reading very detailed recaps. I do this all the time when waiting for subs on raw videos. I was able to find them for this series on Drama Milk. I hope this helps. https://www.dramamilk.com/tag/children-of-a-lesser-god/
LOL I just watched the first episode now that it's on Netflix and I wonder if people that like this aren't…
Thank you. I am late to the series and comments, but your comment regarding the dialogue made me so happy! It describes so well and with great charm one of my favorite experiences of watching drama. Throughout my entire life I have watched dramas from all over the world, including comedies, action adventure, and animation. I still find these over the top moments to be delightful and universal no matter the culture or genre. :)
they are siblings, once she finds out, she kills him and then commits suicide
In the original I wanted the brother to die and I also wanted the female lead to die once she murdered the unarmed male lead for no reason. The Korean drama is much better.
Can someone tell me how did it end in the original?
In the original, she confronts the ML about his lies including planning to kill her brother with the gun. When he admits to everything, she tells him that she will protect her brother and murders the ML. She discovers the letter he had in his pocket about her being his sister and then kills herself. It always upset me because she could not have truly loved him if she were capable of murdering him, especially since her brother was not in any immediate danger as he was not there at the time and she had the gun.
His portrayal of Kim Moo Young in The Smile Has Left Your Eyes is absolutely extraordinary. He is truly a gifted and accomplished actor and he has also created many memorable characters in his prior works.
I'm actually not upset over the ending. When the scene occurred, I was just screaming 'what the fuck' in my head,…
I was so worried after episode 15 that the writers were going to keep the original ending which ruined the entire show for me. I am truly grateful to the Korean writers for creating an ending that allowed MY and JK to love and trust each other till the end.
I was prepared for this. I’m still sad but I knew it was coming so it doesn’t hurt too much. The ending perfectly…
The beauty of this drama far outweighed any of its flaws. I echo your relief that the couple did not kill each other and I am grateful to the Korean writers for preserving the couple's unique and genuine love for each other by having an outsider murder them. It is comforting to know that their love and trust never faltered to the very end.
