I feel both of the main leads represents 21st century characters. At first I got the impression that she was kinda a pick me girl and he's somewhat a joseon f boy. I don't have a problem with it. I'm glad that they don't make a goody-two-shoes character. Actually it's a lot of fun and fresh to see them grow.

And then the story evolves and she turned into the joseon you-go-girl. In order to protect herself and her people, she's breaking all the stereotypes. She's strong and fierce. She can be as kind and as beautiful as flower. But she can be as hard as stone in a defensive mechanism mode.

As LJH said, she's more reliable than those awkward scholars. Both Gil Chae and LJH are like the joseon MZ generation.

It not anything like that. The description doesn't really describe it. Yes it has a love triangle, but that's not the main point. It's not a typical sml involved. It's more like a love and war.

Yes, he is. When he told his father that the Qing is flexible and different from what he heard inside the walls, he failed to see it from his dad's point of view. King was paranoid of the intruders and no matter the son put logic on his, there's a gap of understanding between them.

And he couldn't sense that the king was being inferior of his presence, when lee jang hyun could smell it miles away. By telling him that, it rubbed off on the king's face the wrong way. It's as if telling him that the crown prince could handle the Qing better than the King.

Not until he came back to Simyang, and they asked Joseon this and that and cut off their supplies. He realized that his father was right after all, they're not as flexible as it seemed.

He's naive but it's understandable. Because the writer is good at building his character. He was privileged in the palace and never see the outside world. He's a book smart and not a street smart.

But like lee jang hyun said, he has a strong mindset because he's still holding it in. And his willingness to adapt with the situation is clever. He knows how to survive despite his limit. You're right, I hope we can learn more of his sides later. And I want to see his character to develop more. Especially after he got a reality check at the slave market. That must felt like a slap on his face. And after LJH put some sense to him, I want to see how he will end up in the future.
