I'm rewatching the last two episodes and the only gripe I have with this drama are the shots of KristSingto kissing...…
There was a great behind-the-scenes shot of the kiss with the lip balm where it’s clear Tam was pushing Phi’s chest before he gave in. :> Fun li’l detail.
The way the series is set up is so clever and misleading because when Tam is introduced, he seems completely confident and put-together, but then over the course of the series we’re shown all these instances of how his world revolved completely around Phi to the point where he was more dependent on Phi than the reverse. I think anyone struggling with his reason for leaving can see where it came from by looking more closely at his character. He left not because he thought his absence would help Phi grow; Tam left because he realized that he couldn’t control himself. It’s why he erased the kinder text and made it curt: he would’ve caved if he knew he’d made Phi sad, so he wanted Phi to hate him and get over him faster.
It’s why he calls himself a villain. Tam doesn’t think he did the right thing. He even says it was a mistake at the start of the episode.
I love it because the show’s Thai title is actually referring to Tam, not Phi: “The Ex Always Changes.” So Phi may be the POV character, but Tam is the protagonist with the most growth to reach.
And in episode 7, we can see how low he values himself by how he keeps expecting Phi to leave him. I think Tam was waiting to tell Phi until he’d helped Phi get his career back on track because he believed Phi wouldn’t want anything to do with him once he knew. That’s why he said, “When I’m ready, I’ll tell you everything.”
So when Phi does find out and doesn’t leave him, Tam’s completely blindsided by it. This series has Phi steering them into doing what a good, solid couple should do: “You messed up, and I get to be upset about it, and you can’t leave, because we’re going to talk about it and work through it. You don’t get to run. You don’t get to take the easy way out this time.”
The writing in this series is phenomenally satisfying, and I’m looking forward to rewatching it once it’s complete to get all the nuances that’ll only be clear in retrospect.
“Actually, Tam already gave his answer about why he left Phi [in the bathroom scene of episode 3]. He might not have said it out loud, but it was all in his eyes.
I have to say that they both acted very well in that scene. When I watched it for the first time, even I sobbed.
After you’ve watched episode 7, go back and rewatch that scene in episode 3. Then you'll understand everything Tam was thinking as well as what Phi was feeling.”

So that’s a fandom myth I also heard, but it turns out they just went viral under the same hashtag, not that she was inspired by Singto specifically. The story’s also here:
Quick Question: Does anyone know how Singto got into the auditions of SOTUS? Did the author track him down and…
So! There was a hashtag that went viral about hazers, so Bittersweet was inspired by that and wrote SOTUS as a web novel. Singto’s head hazer photo went viral under the same hashtag, and Kit’s photo went viral under a similar but different hashtag. They were both invited to audition based on the vitality aspect, recognized each other from their hazer activities, both auditioned for Arthit, it came down to three out of hundreds, Singto and Kit were chosen, and then Singto was asked to study Kongphob instead and bam: history. :)
The ONE scenario I never considered is exactly the scenario that I think we're getting based on the preview (which…
Well said on all points. I think they put together something really unique with this series, and it’s going to be a lot of fun on rewatches. A lot of Singto’s acting choices have been incredibly subtle and I think some are too busy hating him to notice.
I think you’re right that people are expecting this to have the same weaknesses as other series written quickly and thrown onto the conveyer belt with a dozen others like it, but they had multiple drafts of this script, and they even did a massive rehaul at one point, too. So it’s not your typical cash-grab script.
I actually really like the idea of Phi knowing all along but waiting for Tam to say it and upset that he won’t. Especially with the recent flashbacks showing how Tam didn’t have much of an independent streak and followed what Phi wanted, it makes sense. 👀
I think Phi already knows why Tam left. In the preview he says he found out, and when he’s talking to Tam, he says something like, “I thought I knew you better than anyone else, but I was wrong. We should spend more time getting to know each other.” That, to me, sounds like he learned why Tam left and made peace with the reason on his own. In the next episode we’ll see them actually talk about it, but rewatch the scene again and see how calm Phi is.
The way the show is written, I think you just kind of have to trust the process and enjoy the ride.
I understand how some people make the mistake of thinking that the only reason KristSingto are famous is because they were the first and had no competition, but the reality is that there wasn’t an industry to compete IN until it was created with the success of KristSingto in “SOTUS” and their promotional work for years after the fact. TayNew and OffGun were in het series the same year “SOTUS” aired, but KristSingto were the first leads of a BL series that saw the level of success it did. (Not the first BL series in the industry, mind, but the first to be that successful.)
Krist and Singto weren’t even GMMTV actors initially. They auditioned while “SOTUS” was under Felloww, and once the series changed hands to GMMTV, much of the cast was reshuffled and replaced with GMMTV actors—except for KristSingto. They joined GMMTV *because of* their value to the series and potential beyond it.
So, y’know, the next time someone says “they’re only the OG because they were first,” remember that there were other BL pairs before them, but Krist and Singto were the ones who sparked the fire by which the industry as a whole burns today.

You’re welcome! It’s much, much better than it was. I still block liberally when I sense someone’s going to be questionable, and it’s saved me a lot of headaches.
I’m glad the mod deleted it. That’s more proof things are getting better. <3

Yeeep. One and the same. I joined the fandom right when they started it. They tried going after Singto, too, but their tactics against him didn’t stick as well as labeling Kit a homophobe.
Which is still bizarre to me because it takes thirty seconds to debunk.
Even less now. He was at a Pride party with Singto two nights ago. He designed a stage performance to celebrate marriage equality being legalized. Basic research opens up a magical world. :D
I can’t see a homophobe being able to touch or kiss another man even if it is acting . I’m still enjoying…
I know you don’t mean anything by saying so, but I’d caution against ever saying you can “tell” anyone’s sexuality, especially people living and working in a conservative society where very, vanishingly few actors can be openly queer and still work consistently and with respect from the public and support from sponsors.
No one can “tell” anyone’s sexuality except the person in question.

Old coals and all that. ;)

(Anyone who thinks Kit’s homophobic just isn’t worth talking to at this point.)
