"Be My Favorite" has been my favorite series since 2023 and nothing's been able to top it since. Not even close, really. This is the strongest script I've seen from GMMTV yet, and GMMTV just doesn't seem to allow their writers time to develop their scripts the way Waa and his team brilliantly developed this one. It should be noted that even though "Be My Favorite" was originally taken from a Jittirain novella, the title card of the series even calls it "inspired by" and not "adapted from" because Waa and his team essentially developed a completely different, far more nuanced story than the one Jittirain wrote. (Having skimmed the novella, which includes sexual assault played for comedy in, like, the second chapter, this is a very, very, VERY good thing that he did.)
Ever since I finished "Be My Favorite" I've been saying that the only series I could imagine having a chance of knocking BMF off its throne would be Waa directing KristSingto, which suddenly became a possibility when Singto came back in 2024. :')
The original plan for "Be My Favorite" back in 2021 was, in fact, for it to be a comeback for KristSingto. However, Singto chose not to renew his contract with GMMTV in April of 2021, and the role went first to Mike (featured in the December 2021 pilot teaser) and then later to Gawin in September of 2022. Gawin has never had a lead role before (he was also in "Dark Blue Kiss" in 2019, but in more of a side couple role with Podd despite them having pretty equal screentime to TayNew). You can see in the behind-the-scenes footage that Waa really worked with Gawin and brought out the best in him. That always made me want to see what Waa would do with Singto, whose approach to acting is quite analytical and would match Waa's methodical directing style beautifully.
As much as I ended up enjoying "The Ex-Morning," I was a little worried about the script based on the writer's past works, and as expected, it fell a bit short in ways a stronger writing team could have done better. I spent all of 2024 and 2025 telling everyone I know that my ideal series, my absolute dream of all dreams, would be Waa directing and writing a series for KristSingto: and he's GOING TO. \:D/
Krist, after working with Waa on "Good Old Days" and "Be My Favorite" actually personally reached out to Waa to ask him if he would write him and Singto a series. (If I remember correctly, he even called Waa his favorite director, which warmed my little BMF-loving heart.) Waa gladly agreed, and the workshops for "Write You Again" are slated to begin at the end of March, with the series itself likely airing in the second half of this year. <333
If you loved "Be My Favorite" as much as I do, keep an eye on the progress for "Write You Again" and check out the pilot teaser on YouTube. It was the only one of the 36 pilot teasers that ONLY featured two actors, which I only clocked on my fourth or fifth rewatch. Knowing Waa's repeated themes of family dynamics and classism and queerness, I think "Write You Again" is going to be just as incredible as "Be My Favorite." :')
Let me be the first to say: I know this is going to be incredible. Waa is directing, Parbdee is producing, and KristSingto are apparently helping to develop the story. Ever since "Be My Favorite," also directed by Waa and produced by Parbdee, I've been hoping so hard that we'd get the same quality of series with the same team for KristSingto, and the pilot was above and beyond my highest expectations. I couldn't trust Waa more completely, and I love how happy Krist looks lately, and I suspect a big part of it was because he knew this was coming. :')
I'm fully prepared to wait as long as they need for everything to be the quality it deserves. <3
where's the slapstick comedy everyone's talking abt
I don't think people actually watched the full trailer or the full episode. Twelve seconds of a three-minute trailer and a few minutes of a 50-minute episode do not a comedy make.
Especially after watching the behind-the-scenes episode, this series looks so promising. They mention the action and dramatic scenes quite a lot, so I think people jumped the gun a bit assuming it would be comedic. I think it'll be well-balanced, and judging by the novel, it's going to be a high-stakes story with a lot of elements coming together.
I know you!! OMG! I followed you on TikTok and here you are huhu, btw I’m a fan of your edits.!
Awww!! That made me smile so wide, thank you! :') I'm trying to get more proficient in DaVinci Resolve so I can do more creative things with my edits, so that's really encouraging to hear!
wish this could be pinned or something because the comments are getting annoying
Thank you! I honestly think people have forgotten the effect of their words online, so I make an extra effort to ignore careless cruelty and focus on the people who make an effort to be kind. <3
I’m a fan of Barcode. Not gonna lie, it was him, who got me into Revamp, but I gotta say, after I learned how…
As a BounPrem fan, I'm really happy to hear that. :) I was glad to see Barcode added to the cast even if I haven't seen his past works. He seems like a great kid and I'm looking forward to seeing him crush the role of Ciar. <3
Hey folks! So, since I've been following this for four years:
• This was *originally* almost entirely Boun's project, and he put some of his own money into making the original pilot teaser with Wabi Sabi. New gave him a TON of creative control. He wasn't the ONLY writer on the original script, but he *was* writing significant portions of it.
• When BounPrem moved to GMMTV, the script was rehauled. Tha himself made suggestions, and new writers with GMMTV reworked the story to make it less dark and more Profitable for General Audiences. The tone change is 100% GMMTV's choice, not New's. Boun's original vision was apparently to focus on the vampires rather than the romance, so Tha pushed for the romance to take a more central role because Marketability.
• The story is still quite dark. Ramil's not going to be goofy the whole story. He just has personality traits besides Dark and Brooding, which, personally: thank god. I'm sick to death of Dark and Brooding male characters in all media forever, and I'm happy to never see another. Give me a silly little guy who also kills people over a Tortured Alpha Man any day. <3
Essentially, there's a lot going on in the story and I'm glad the trailer didn't actually give much of it away.
Remember that the pilot teasers are always and forever purely intended to get sponsors, not to accurately represent the final product, so never get too attached to the teasers.
I've been really excited for Revamp, and I think it looks solid so far. \:D/ It's Boun's passion project, so in the end, as long as he's happy, I trust it. <3
Rewatching again Episode 9: I have to say there were some subtle signs that Paul had some shady ways:1. Remember…
Also in episode 7 when he told Phi how much Tam loves him…how did he know? He and Yong had just established that they didn't know Phi knew them both. So there could still be something we don't know about why Tam left the country and never seemed to like Paul…
I've been suspicious of Paul ever since he casually mentioned his second business. Like, how do you forget a whole other business and then go, "Oh wait, I have another business with some friends who might just be able to help. :>"
I also really liked the direction they took the Yong/Gaogie thing, because my friends and I were saying in earlier episodes that it seemed they were doing a "some exes get back together, and some don't" parallel with them.
My favorite part was Tam, though. I love that he's still flawed, that he's still trying to stay a step ahead of Phi to anticipate what he needs rather than communicate with him the way he should. Even after Phi guesses what's been bothering him, Tam's first instinct is to tell him, "Don't worry about me, I'll find something else to do." He still doesn't want to center himself, which is true to the flaws he's had throughout the series. It's all a great mix of subtle but really satisfyingly straightforward at the same time.
And of course Phi's two wants (career+career satisfaction) and one need (Tam) have been consistent throughout, and I love that his conflict now is being offered one of the two wants, which conflicts with the other.
Ahhhh the next episode is gonna make me cry, and I'm totally fine with that. :')
the concept of ohm being krist's crush. 2019 me would be squeaking at the crossover 😭
Right??? UWMA and SOTUS were my first BL series back in 2020. I never would habe dreamed I’d see Ohm and Krist in the same series let alone with Krist’s character crushing on Ohm’s character. Amazing outcome. :’)
The best part of The Ex-Morning is that it’s a comeback in an era where BL is soaring, so we can look forward to another series from KristSingto after this one. :’)
