this was quite the conflicting watch for me. i went in expecting something completely different, and i'm not sure how i feel about what i got instead.
ep 1-5 were good. they set the stage well and there were a ton of cute moments. ep 6-9 is where i got so ?????????? i'm not sure if it was the translations or my comprehension skills, but so much of their dialogue is so difficult to understand. i get that's kind of the point, but so much that most of the time i couldn't understand why conflicts were happening or why characters were even upset at all. i had to look up ep 6 especially. a lot of it just felt like artsy metaphors and roundabout conversations. it was getting so tiring keeping up with the back and forth and misunderstandings. but even then, some of the plot additions felt so strange too, almost like i wasn't watching the same show. to say these eps were frustrating is an understatement.
i think ep 10-12 is where the show was saved for me. i especially loved the last scene AHHHH. younjung and seonho had great chemistry overall. i loved hiro's character and the side couple were shockingly sweet. although i'm very iffy about the plot and forced conflicts, i don't think i would've finished had i not been so invested in the characters and their chemistry. i genuinely cared for cha mu-hee. it certainly is not a drama for everyone. it's a frustrating melodrama with extremely flawed characters, but there's also a lot of heart baked into it. i'm tentatively giving it a 7/10, but i really have to process the story more.
I loved the cringe college days first half was perfect then it was incredibly boring with the serious workplace…
i preferred the second half for their relationship progress. the college days were a little TOO cringe for me, i had to pause quite a few times lol. and ofc because they were just at a standstill at that point, with qianling pretending to be someone else. it felt much more fun to me when they were both being genuine and he actually started trying to win her over. i wasn't too into the work stuff either, it was kinda just the backdrop for me.
i came out liking this quite a lot, but just for the main couple. the story itself is okay. it feels like two completely different shows in college vs in the workplace, where the first half is extremely comedic and cringe (second hand embarrassment), and the second is more illogical and forced "serious" workplace drama. the story definitely nosedived in the last third.
the second couple was barely anything. i can't understand why junnan likes xinyi and i have NO idea why xinyi would like junnan when he's literally useless and can't even bother to text his own girlfriend 😭 they didn't give them enough time so i wonder why they even bothered at all.
what kept me watching was gu xun and qianling's sweet chemistry. yes they had many misunderstandings and a slowww burn romance, but they had sososo many cute moments together. it felt like a very classic fluff cdrama with a perfect ml. i enjoyed how likable qianling was. she was not stereotypically timid, shy, cutesy girl. she was brash, outspoken, and hot tempered, yet a girl's girl, and super caring. the parts where she'd shut down and not hear anyone out did get a little annoying though...like GIRL just hear him out!!!
once you get through the unbearably cringe college days, i genuinely think the main couple's scenes are worth the watch. it's a very nice turn-your-brain-off sweet fluff "she fell first, he fell harder" type of drama. great for when you just want a cute slow burn romance. tentatively 8/10.
most of the movie is quite generic and whatever, but man, the action sequences are perfect. so scrappy, yet precisely choreographed. so much weight behind the moves, scarily quick paced, and dynamic movements where you can't look away. each major character even had their own fighting style. i loved how the main antagonist focused on using legs, i rarely see that. the final fight was simply superb. ofc despite having insane plot armor, i enjoyed how equal the power was across the board between protagonists and antagonists. choreographing for three people at the same time could not have been easy. i have no idea how any of them do it.
if they're making someone do a stunt by falling off a building backwards, why would they not set up safety nets or a pad at all??? that's literally a lawsuit
all lee yikyung and song hayoon did so wonderfully as the main antagonists. i usually see yikyung's comedic side, as he naturally makes those expressions, but i was surprised at how intimidating and hate-able he came off in some scenes. hayoon pulled off the snake-y, flirty, sociopath off so well too. claps all around at making us hate them so much.
hmm after finishing ep 1, i'm feeling kind of whatever on it. nothing has really hooked me in yet, but maybe that'll change as it goes on. i'll give it a few more episodes. it's just a little boring tbh. the club scene was good though.
this drama was quite the surprise. for the entire run, it's a series full of hard-to-stomach abuse scenes, inheritance turmoil, and family drama. it follows the lives of the housekeepers and their suffering post-death of the master. initially, i wrote this off as a fairly typical inheritance murder mystery story, akin to something like dalah or knives out. majority of the felt like a slow burn, but the last episode truly changed my mind. what an ending.
the production quality is very high with some innovative shots, transitions, and even some fake-outs. i thought the acting was good across the board, particularly from yada as the lead. if you watch it please be prepared for explicit physical and sexual abuse in every episode. while they don't show anything super explicit, it can be hard to stomach their constant mistreatment. that being said, i really enjoyed the watch. 7.5/10.
starting ep 5 now. i think you really need a stomach for hierarchal abuse and lower class suffering. so far it seems less about an inheritance battle or murder mystery and more about the lives of the servants in the aftermath of the death, which isn't a bad thing. just sort of a tough watch to watch them get treated like this. but i know this is a revenge story so guess i just have to see where it goes.
even if he knew her in 2015 when she was 15, but they didn't date until she was at least 18 in 2018, it'd still be an 18yo with a 30yo or a 19yo with a 31yo. if this is true and they dated when she was an adult (barely), it may not be illegal, but it's still a 30yo with a teenager. there's still a high chance he knew her while she was underage too. are we really trying to support 30yo men who target teens and college girls? 😭
it's definitely made by korean and asian creators and they SHOULD be celebrated for that, but the main point is that it's an animated film and mdl has specifically stated that they do not add animated films on here. if there is one exception, then ALL must be added, including the thousands or millions of animated korean, chinese, japanese, filipino, taiwanese, and thai animated movies out there. does this include anime as well? animated shows?
there's also a lot of southeast asian content (vietnamese, indonesian, etc) that people have begged to add on here that they stated they will not add (despite including thai content already). katseye pop star academy is not on here, despite hybe's participation. the lines they draw are very murky, but this addition very clearly crosses over it, being both an american production and an animated film. the country is even listed as "united states"
only just finished ep 1 but it's hilarious so far. the entire part with chaeni and the two guys made me laugh out loud multiple times. i hope it stays this way throughout the show.
