All I can say what a waste something that could have ended well so they could come up with dry ass season 2. Kmt!!!
LOL .. agree .. I watched until Ep 12-13 and quit.
After stunningly power driven shows like TTEOTM / SOKP / LLTG .. this was wimpy at best .. and IMHO .. it's the terrible casting decision to put JSM in it .. the Naksu power FL vanished with the original actress in Ep 1. It needed a super talented actress to pull of a 'fiery angry vengeful persona' roiling inside a 'plain village gal' .. the aura that should have convinced the audience of the reverse hanrem chasing her (eye roll)
After watching too many Chinese dramas, this drama seemed to lack so many things; plot-wise, the character's execution…
I could have lived with the Transmigration (soul shifting) part of the story as well as the mage sects, I found the cinematography / CGI very high quality as compared to many of the 'low budget, flowery, fake, plasticky CGI" of some of the Cdrama Xanxia / Wuxia genre.
What irked me the most is the ridiculous, unconvincingly knitted 'love' lines in the reverse harem of an actress like Jung So Min. She started off pretty fine .. her character was sort of set OKAYish (have never been her fan) and then it all became weak and wimpish .. All the spunk was gone .. and became an energy suck in the otherwise well developing drama.
I just couldn't buy WHY THREE hot men were chasing her!! What happened to hierarchy of classes? Especially royalty vis a vis maid. Just shoddy development.
Inspite of the promising story OUTSIDE of JSM .. (how dearly I wished they had retained the original Naksu - fiery and flaming sexy flashing original Naksu actress .. she would be believable as someone who could have drawn the men around her).
Yeah I get it that she fell into a weak body of a lowly village gal .. but it needed a super talented actress who could 'play' the role of a 'plain' Jane fired up into someone mysteriously haunting and fiery .. because Naksu was inside her!!
Naksu dissolved into gooey muck in JSM .. The only time JSM radiated Naksu's fiery persona was when she flashed those 'blue eyes' and raged out of the brothel.
Kim Tae Ri, Bae Suzy, Han So Hee, Park So Dam, Park Bo Young come to mind as actresses who pack a punch .. and might have pulled off this TOUGH TOUGH role.
Half-bro and sis story build up is 'eeky - yucky' as a romance tale .. especially if the whole 'hunt for bro' is set up; and half the story has them thinking they are siblings and still getting romantic frisson. Eeywu!!
The only way this story will stay interesting and untroubled by incestuous tones is if BOTH the children are shown to have become aware that THEY WERE NOT related by blood when they are still children, just at the time that Hong Rang disappears.
The mistaken sibling identity turning hot and heavy for each other is kinda trope that seems so popular in KDrama .. Have seen many like that ..
Instant DROP or NOT INTERESTED category for me.
UNLESS it's clear for BOTH parties when they are still very little that they aren't related.
ROFL : was it a glitch or got genuinely found all the dramas you watched to be a10/10 π€£π€£π€£π€£
209 / 686 X 100 = 30.5%
:-D
That's the true math.
BUT that's not the issue here. You misunderstood my comment, it was not meant as a slight nor to mock.
I was looking through how people interpreted AOS and how they rated it.
When I find a comment that seems to interest me (I had quit AOS in my first round - long ago - at around Ep 8 and was rethinking if I should go back and watch it now) I sometimes go check if we have any common overlaps and what shows were really liked and rated 10/10 by them.
Yes agree it's my half-glance, and not scrolling down fully, that made me miss the fact that you are INDEED a SEONBAE in DramaLand with 686 shows under your belt. If I had I'd not have thought that 30% shows with 10/10 is odd ..
I genuinely misread it as a glitch.
Apologies that you were upset.
p.s. I quit AOS around Ep 13 or so. So looks like we have a match in that :-)
Seeing NI NI for the first time she's hot π₯ with that intense gaze of her π
For Ni Ni watch "Rise of the Phoenixes" ;-p
You'll also discover Chen Kun .. Powerful actor .. also in Win the Future, with an actress whose hotness scale is like Ni Ni in Parallel World (I just watched the trailer)
Actors especially the three main casts are brilliant Lee Jae wook Jung so min go Yoon Jung... I have watched two…
oops I did an edited response .. looks like the old response stays online even as I am editing the old one ;-p Maybe you'll read the full edited version ;-p
Actors especially the three main casts are brilliant Lee Jae wook Jung so min go Yoon Jung... I have watched two…
OK .. I dropped it. Dropped AOS. π€¦π½ββοΈπ«£π
I started losing interest around Ep 8 - 9 I think; then I woke up super-excited around just after Wook gets accepted and the new ladies have been introduced .. So Yi (naughty / thief gal looking for Jung So Min) and the old Medicine Mage's grand daughter, and of course the peekaboo at ever mysterious Bu Yeon.
And then I I reached the end of my patience.
WHY?
Ok so a few things :
# Firstly, I am not a fan of Jung So Min. I watched 3 of her Dramas .. and in none of them was hooked to the show because of her, although I finished all 3 shows
~ Playful Kiss .. early days of Drama when I was still getting to learn the various "patterns" / "tropes" (I FFWD it SO much just to know what happens etc). I went back to check and saw that I had rated it 8.5 π€£ I call it my 'KDrama Honeymoon Period' ratings π
~ Because This is My First Life .. Again ML's superb acting talent, character portrayal was the pull and the new kind of story, NOT the FL. Back in those days I could still walk past an FL who left me kinda disinterested and finish a show .. I FFWDed when the FL, JSM, got on my nerves to move on to what happens next). A 6 /10 for me
~ The Smile has Left her Eyes .. This is the ONLY drama where she irked me the least .. and the STORY had me in a fierce enough grip; zero FFWD, slow chewing and relishing it; sucker as I am for bad boys, Seo In Guk's magnetic bad ass role washed over any 'weakness' that surfaced from JSM. That was TRUE blue 9.5 /10 for me .. deducted the 0.5 because the ending was "Aw cummon scriptwriter .. who forced your hand!!" Again ALL those points were for direction /acting of SIG and JSM's bro role and even the villainess, not so much for the meh JSM .. though I thought did her best in this show as a main lead.
# 2 AOS script got less and less convincing as the story progressed in the knitting of the JSM and the 'reverse harem' plot, that built up around her.
I mean CUMMON!! I have watched enough saeguks and period dramas to not buy that this "mere maid" had 3 outstanding men drawn to her like bugs to flames, in her 'ragged attire' with truly nothing about her which was magnetic (presence / aura / skills / looks .. a failure of acting IMO).
And getting away with interrupting and landing up in court .. none of the hierarchy exists in this setting? π€·π»ββοΈ Looked forced for the sake of story telling convenience.
#3 I had LOVED the original Naksu .. the actress π₯° who opened the Drama. And deeply had wished she would be the one to pull the story forward. JSM appearance put a wet blanket because of my previous impression of her.
I still got sucked in by the power of the story and she was still bearable (showed spunk) until the script kept going south with the trio going after her for no convincing reason. So on the burning of old Naksu Body I knew there was NO coming back of her in the show.
# 4 SO I was tagging along for the story π. Jae Wook is good .. BUT I sensed NO chemistry .. I guess again that was a JSM effect for me π . and thus it kept irking me that he was SO into herπ
# 5Just as I was losing interest I perked up .. π³ I LOVED the mysterious Bu Yeon showing up .. and wondered if the Hong Sisters were going to throw a heart pounding π«’ curveball .. a new knitting where Jae Wook and JSM will plateau at master - pupil, π― believable .. Yul and Mu Deok will be the actual couple going forward (low-key, passive slow burn romance, because of old connect); that Jae Wook and Bu Yeon will be the true fit, since she found the ice stone, and Won the Prince will just withdraw keeping his distance because convincing me that a royalty would make some concrete advances to Mu Deok is π
NOPE.. the Hong Sibling's teasing got steeper and steeper and so steep that it collapsed for me!! To the point of full ON annoyance .. I often find the Hong Sisters deeply annoying because they seem to not know where to STOP with the teasing and fooling around. Instead of any tension being built .. makes me get up and walk away. That elastic band stings when let go off.
# 6 At that point I decided not to be led through a wild goose chase if Jae Wook is still going to be hooked up with this 'dull and boring FL' who has turned into a wimp!! A wimp switch over was so quick in the show that too. On top of that the "wimp" that 3 HOT and HEAVY guys are chasing!!! πππ To make sure I was right in my assumption I went and googled the end couple .. YEAH .. π€£π€£π π .. and quit.
In general I am not a Hong Sister's show fan .. My Master's Sun is the only show of their's I had a rollicking time with π₯³ I was so HILARIOUS .. never lost its comic timing and the great talents that raised it to one of the top rom-coms.π
SIGH!!!π
I am SO SO SO SORRY to have dissed a show you LIKED .. π₯Ή But I really had to vent .. You know how it is when you get cheated .. midway in a promising show ..
I willπ―try out Parallel World. As a mouth cleanserπ€ͺ
This is the beauty of Kdrama though - that a show with a 9.1 on MDL can make you quit π₯±.. and a show with a 6.0 can make you gush β€οΈ - that an actor / actress can dissolve you in the knees and put stars in your eyes in admiration π of their talent when they do just the opposite for someone else. π
Bai Lu stole my heart. As did Zhang Zi Yi. Bae Suzy. Kim Tae Ri etal Usually MLs steal my heart π (never with JUST looks though .. they have to come in a stellar, super-talented package .. and the list is not too small).
I hope I am not disappointed!Just starting the show - I am fresh from the seductive effects of Bai Lu in- Love…
With a banked show I don't feel at the mercy of the schedule. It's like the cookie jar you can reach into any time at your convenience and pick as many as you like or skip... The comfort of knowing you control your time and no. Of eps to watch etc.
well then this may not be for you . For me this is a beautiful drama which has slow burn with a love story that…
You are right - when I first started watching KDRAMA.. Everything was so new.. Each and every trope / pattern became familiar and predictable and lost it's charm and even became irritating because we kept seeking variations and newness as our list of watched dramas grew.
I started KDrama in May 2020 (peak Covid).. And Cdrama I am a newbie (started only this year August). Therefore I understand what you mean.
Some of the ratings I gave to shows I would also revise π€£π
However some have stayed shining bright.. Even after I am a veteran Drama watcher now.

Such a role was pulled off ONLY by Ning Que's adorkable maid-cum-sidekick "Sang Sang" in Ever Night (OMG that was one unforgettable role and bonding π€©

Some of the dramas would kill me if I had to wait it out for the weekly peacemeal
Put in PTW list.
Thanks
Am watching the show π
Now I am really curious to spot him.
Will do a Google image / video search of ZLH in LBFAD
π
Have put it on the shelf to continue in a different frame of mind.
Once the spell of SOKP / TTEOTM / LLTG / Rise of the Phoenixes etc has reduced and allows me to move on.
Have found Alchemy of Souls in the meantime... And it's sucked me in.
π
No way otherwise someone can get a sense of your taste in drama π
Hmmm.
But that FL.. SHEESH I can't get past her!!!
So this show will stay unwatched by me.
