just to share my reading and unpacking of some of the takeaways here:

I think you hit the nail on the head with the description : "Unless you are a computer geek"

(Well one does need to have a basic knowledge and dash of current affairs awareness in the field of IT - Gaming - Apps ... not necessarily 'nerd' level to NOT BE BORED.
Umm not sure how that can be remedied ;-p
For eg I never knew the allure of "SUCCESSION" or any of those "FINANCE & BANKING" movies and serial .. because I don't understand the jargon ;-p I am truly bored to death.
I suspect that is the MAIN REASON most people turned away - or just skipped and watched the 'love-story' bits).

Because for those of us who fell into its arms and snuggled in - it was one heck of a ride at the edge of the seat SO OFTEN.

WHY?? The 1st episode had set the expectations, of grand themes and events that will transpire .. and so made us minutely TUNE into the steps that was leading up to those events.
Dramatic Irony peak.

Umm - I like that the answer to this will always be ambivalent :-)

We know LX was pulled into her force-field right from the beginning (?) on registration day itself (?)
I'm willing to bet that he recognised her ..
Her face from her 17th bday was etched in his mind.
That day she DID look like the 'princess' with that cake - with the shiny crown on it - and streamers and cheers and candles, the centre of attention and beloved daughter of King and Queen Zhu.

I think it was the PRIMARY reason he began to call her "princess" - sarky even derision at times, in the beginning mostly, and then it stuck ..

And then he called her princess in its multiple connotations .. including affection, admiration, as an object of desire etc.

(I want to make a list of the times he calls her "princess" and the possible connotation at that time. Also ZY reacts to it differently too .. depending on her mood and feelings and interpretation at that moment, from being upset, pleased, important, curious, loved and desired.

Her mates at the Base even pick up the term their "Boss LX" uses for her (note the times they call her 'princess' LOL)

So the back to brown hair might have been due to the dual force of Zhu Yun AND Prof Lin.
We see that LX DID have A LOT of respect for Old Lin (and vice versa .. they had a special connect.
~ LX 'knew' Old Lin's wife was also a proff and seemed like he had visited them before he went to prison .. when he was in college.
~ Old Lin fell back on LX when he would be stuck with the hardware and software for the Competitions and comfortably ordered him around and LX did not refuse the 'lowly' task of checking that all comps were in top order before start of sessions.
~ Recall how he MOSTLY was obedient for any help Old Lin asked him for .. except of course when he begged him to compete ;-D
~ LX was comfortable taking ZY (even though they had just had a serious fallout that landed ZY in the hospital) to meet Old Lin and ask such an important favour of his wife.

ANY WAY I digress ..
These slippery .. not that easy to pin down the thoughts of the characters .. is what makes L&P for me even more tantalising.

However if it's any consolation ;-p in the hunt for "cure" I did find some other 'top notch' actors of C-Drama.

- Wang An Yu (he too is a flaming actor - and transforms his roles with magic)

- Jing Bo Ran (he's BRILLIANT in Road Home .. not sure about his other portrayals)

- Li Xian ( even thoughI totally disliked and dropped his top rated show - Go Go Squid - like a steaming cube of steel; I found him bursting with potential .. not sure if he's been picked for a quality drama though.
Apologies if you are one of the 200 + K squealing fansGGS - as per Viki)

- Hu Yi Tian (not bad .. the best role IMO he did was the complex character in Unrequited Love. While GGS2 Appledog's Time failed to hold my attentions due to sagging plot and lack of dramatic tension and lost in the woods kind of a script inspite of having created an exciting character list - Hu Tian's role was pretty well played .. I dropped the show .. But his role stayed in my head.)

Those of us who are completely under L&P's 'immobulus" spell (ref Harry Potter Wizardry) will languish all over the net looking for 'more' ....

Yes it was fun watching even though they we mostly BTS material.

I dropped WIFTY .. not anywhere near these two.

(at least it didn't hook me hello as these 2 did)

FOREVER LOVE had a nearer vibe (mostly in the beginning) .. although it got too preachy and goodie 2 shoes at times (which started becoming too often) .. and many of its ploy points were contrived and pasted on .. rather than being organic .. almost as though they were written on the fly.

I agree. TWO ABSO different DRAMAS.

I LOVED BOTH.

And here's the thing .. EACH had it's POWER and STRENGTH .. The shows delivered FULL BLAST what they set out to do.

10/10 for BOTH - for ace acting - story - script - direction - music and camerawork

Old Gao was materialistic and focused on money making and quickly reaching a 'lifestyle' that he craved (recall what he said when he was invited for dinner by Xu Lina in that fancy restaurant, ALL he could dream up was a want : the "lifestyle of the rich and famous").
He craved power and influence and even though he preached 'equality amongst colleagues' he operated and made no bones about who was the boss and decided as he pleased what the company should do.

Li Xun was a visionary - he was dreaming about how Tech could benefit humankind (the 1% cure rate for cancer was his DREAM) - he was on the mountain top already and seeing the future of TECH in the horizon dawning ..

Not once do we see Li Xun gape at 'money and power' .. what we see him doing is "avoiding the moneyed" / wary and suspicious of people with money who so often wanted to 'buy' him (FuZhio's dad .. Fuzhio himself / Xu Lina's dad .. Xu Lina herself) .. the ONLY person he made 'money transactions' with was his friend Ren-Di who was herself broke when she requested HIM to invest in HER BAND ..

He was sweet enough to to do that .. he VALUED her as a friend .. though he did not particularly like her music .. and thus probably didn't expect it to ever make it BIG ENOUGH to get him ANY profit).

We do NOT see him BUY anything of HIGH Value or GLITTER for Zhu Yun .. yeah .. a dinner (that too the ones he had for his base ) ; blue china roses were his splurge (LOL and Zhu Yun is happy BUT tells him to save up for their L&P); it's ONLY in the end .. when he has won back L&P and made decent money and become the HEAD of the company does he buy a posh HOME for themselves.

It's so interesting what different parts of the brain light up with the same show ..
The takeaways sound SO ALIEN to one's own experience of the show .. that you wonder were we talking about the same drama :-D

Then you know you are on a track perpendicular to the commenter and the ONLY point of intersection is that we both pressed enter on L&P on the VIKI selection menu - and that's all
