- My Lovely Sam Soon (Korean - the undoubtable classic and mold breaker) - Something in the Rain (Korean) - Falling into You (Chinese) - Crazy for You (2007 - Korean) - Our Blues (the Kim Woo Bin - Han Ji Min couple) - Search: WWW (Korean .. this one is on hold .. check out the solid office politics here and sismance) - Find Yourself (Chinese - on hold also - at least it's hilarious and promises a rom-com ride) - Race (Korean .. an ex-Noona storyline is there .. similar to SBMS .. but FAR more substance and realism and crackle to that)

Totally shallow .. in the moment of discontentment response .. and that's why I like this portion of MDL .. you can express raw emotions right off the bat of disappointment :-D

I know it sounds a bit ridiculous to discard a show at less than an episode (you caught me there pal 😝)
But I'll explain why I reacted that way to the show AND why I "vented" on the discussion thread.
I am new to CDrama began last month only, after avoiding it for 3 years. Why did I avoid? - My few trailer views of some random popular shows in the early days, when I was first introduced to the world of Asian Drama (Covid lockdown years starting in 2020 May) was not favorable, vis a vis the treasure trove I was uncovering on KDrama. - I couldn't adjust to the "sounds and phonetics" of Mandarin after getting used to Korean and catching a lot of the language
Last month though I hit a TERRIBLE KDrama drought 🌞 and this show on CDrama kept pinging on my Netflix search Algo : Hidden Love
I was bowled over by the delicately crafted, detailed arc of a relationship story that was hitting all my parameters of brilliance : script - dialogue -acting-direction- story - plot device - mise-en-scene within the genre of "pure romance". It surpassedthe best of KDrama in that category, in fact I hadn't even encountered this theme and style.
After that I got damn lucky two more times - IN A ROW. 😅🤪😅 with Fireworks in My Heart and then Lighter and Princess.
If you check my watchlist you will see that I am almost a 200 plus KDrama completed veteran PLUS if you add my Dropped shows (163 😉) and those on hold (35 because I haven't made up my mind on them or shelved for a rainy day).. Then I have some 400 dramas in 3 years under my belt. Therefore, my experience with what works for me and what doesn't is pretty "fine-tuned" such that I can "smell" what will work for me / what can't be rescued even after a few episodes / how many eps I can test run it for / what is just a "bad mood" day reaction to show that I can return to later.
So dropping SBMS at Ep 1 was a decision I could easily make for this Drama (honest to goodness I wanted to SO SO LOVE this.. Esp for Xiao Jhan).
As for why I ranted here 😬🫢 Well this is a place where I find shoulders to weep on and crib and bitch in the hopes of finding my tribe 🤓 when a show let's me down ( as this one did) or a show pisses me off etc. It's my emotional response holding place mainly... ZERO intention to upset anyone.. But FULL intention to hear from those who have a different opinion of it and carry the convo forward 😊
I noticed from your watchlist that Fireworks in My Heart and then Lighter and Princess were dropped and rated very low 🤓

You and I both rated The Youth Memories >9 (a 9.5 for me) The Red Sleeves >9 (a 10 for me)
You dropped King the Land while I watched 2/3 rds and then put on HOLD (might even drop it - just curious to know what happened to JunHo character's mom ;-p). It was so much fluff .. but it had two superb actors - so for meet was like flipping through a GLOSSY MAG. Not a fan of Yoona .. however in this show she has spine and zero aegyo-primed acting (I find that intolerable in FLs).
You LOVED Joy of Life. I AM currently watching and LOVING IT .. just started (on Ep 4) .. to cleanse my system of the let down of SBMS . JOL's sparky dialogues, crisp editing, FANTASTIC sets / costumes / plot / cinematography .. beats ALL those other Wuxia / Xanxia tales hollow .. it's sharp and classy till now. Most of the Wuxia shows have pretty awful CGI / sets .. a plastic .. waxy look to it and flat dialogue driven stories .. I have short listed a few that break the mold and promise better.
I LOVED "EVER NIGHT" season 1 (didn't watch season 2 because Chen Fei Yu dropped out .. as did many others from the show in season 2. CFY WAS Ning Que as Irene Song was Sang Sang.
Have a look and see if that clicks for you. I enjoyed it for the great cinematography .. sets .. superlative acting and cracky dialogues, character clashes are smartly done, great pacing and a complex portrayal of characters (CFY excels in that area).
Overall we have very different taste in Drama, but it's great that we enjoyed some in common :-)
LASTLY .. I will retrieve SBMS from DROPPED to HOLD .. and use the HANDSOME Xiao Zhan to coax me back to watch a few more episodes .. on a TRULY DRY DAY. In the meantime I am off to enjoy JOY of LIFE (literally .. it's SO SO SLICK .. Slick as The Youth Memories)
The show began with such a bounce and pop!! Crisp editing, buildup of story and then came crashing down like a limp balloon tied to a rock, hashing up a forced story around an older woman trapped in a shitty marriage.
There was nothing that was a pop and buzz when introducing the FL storyline.. The dialogues were flat, the actress uninteresting in the role she played, there was no dramatic interest in her line when she is presented..
The forced meet up at the restaurant..there was no crackle in the married couple that would make one root for her.. Such a dull unimaginative way to show a failing marriage.
Such a dull way to hold up and script a noona drama.. The FL is unbelievably boring!!! How long was the show thinking of riding on Xian Zhan's charisma and looks...one would find better time pass watching YouTube BTS / drama clips of his.
Feel sorry that XZ got vamped by the drama.. Watch him in The Youth Memories - if you want solid scripting, riveting characters, brilliant directing and acting. Wanna see failed marriages and how they occur.. It'll be in that drama.
Oh now I see that the show is The Youth Memories. I have not seen it.

It's a large canvas, multiple couples, ensemble cast that spans some 3 decades in their lives.
SLICE OF LIFE .. historical .. idealistic .. heart twisty REALITY bites .. So many Old -Gao sort of self absorbed 'weak - self doubting - foolish' characters, trapped in their own follies.
Am going to visit the discussion thread of the show and see what others are saying ;-p
That doesn't mean the L&P won't be visited by me after this.
To fill the dullness post ending of TYM I watched Episode 16 of L&P and ONCE again wondered HOW are people reading Li Xun's character as 'toxic' or a 'red flag' .. He is anything but.
Am going to write another long rebuttal against that reading of his character .. AND each time I realize WHAT AN AWESOME good actor Chen Fei Yu is .. in this.
