The script had very high potential I felt for the 8 eps I watched.

I couldn't stay with the poor execution of the drama in almost all departments - except for the first 2-3 eps at best..it started showing it's poor quality in directing - editing - acting.. And even scripting the "business" aspect of the drama.. Lip service was done to it, without making a solidly well researched part of the story.

Like L&P was SO REAL LIFE in its presentation of the Programming industry - the Uni and IT industry links - the problems facing newcomers - the bubble of value creation or wealth creation.. So many angles are researched and weaved into the personal tales of the character's private lives.

None of that authenticity was present for me...I used the word Bloodless to best express my feel of it.

I used to use the word plastic for CDrama once upon a time when I hadn't begun watching them..

This show exemplifies for me when a show with potential turns out to look plastic as you keep watching it - uh until it doesn't hold your attention any more

I loved the premise of the character Victoria had to play and she pulls it off brilliantly BUT only her professional and office face.

She falters when she has to show the audience her "mooning for ML for 8 years face or her insecure with grandpa face.

Either she is truly wooden in that department or just unlucky to get a director who didn't know how to handle a powerful actress (I feel she has loads of potential)

The grandpa role was so well defined and enacted.. Probably the authentic heart of the drama.

I liked your to the point response which addressed the "quality" of the show rather than get swept away by "how the story should have been scripted and what the characters should have done" 😵‍💫😷🙄

Personally a drama will fail for me straight away if it lacks an elegance in directorial - editorial - production departments. It will fail irredeemably if on top of that the acting talent of the leads and cast can't raise the poor script and direction.

This drama while it started with such an exciting bang, floundered fast enough, failed on so many aspects while maintaining it's superficial plastic pretty feel with ML with great visual (low skill) and FL with promising skill but badly directed.. Characters that raised so much promise but fell flat from laggardly editing and directing..

It was going off tune and losing beats so heavily that I couldn't sustain beyond Ep 8.

The language learning AI and human translator back and forth was interesting to follow but lacked "honesty".. Felt flaky.

Unlike Lighter and Princess dealing with Programming and App making industry etc.. The business part of the story in L&P was brilliantly and realistically woven into it.

I stopped at Ep 8

Plodding story and plot - ML with great visual but such a self conscious actor, low skill IMO.. Actors act not just with face but with body and with other actors and their situation. He lacks that interaction I felt.

FL is a better actress but lacks confidence in scenes where she has to show "emotion other than her office face" -I suspect in her case it's more directorial lack than acting lack.

The whole pace and feel is so wooden and staccato so lacking in humour and feelz.

Bloodless would be an apt description for the entire drama I thought.

This show has wrapped?
What is the chemistry like?
Lip tap or propah kisses?
Strong FL or does cheesy - cringey cute or airhead?

It will decide if I watch or not - story sounds interesting..but if above is not met..won't bother.

I was EXACTLY the same mode when I started watching SWDB .. Almost dropped it .. and then I binged; had such an enjoyable roller coaster ride with the entire story and acting and OST .. one of my TOP romcoms on Kdrama.

Agree with you on PBY .. she can pull off "cute" without being cheesy or cringey ;-p
I find so many Kdrama and CDrama FLs unable to find that sweet spot of being adorable and cute without being irritating to the point of wishing to DROP the drama itself

He does roles like that SO well.

The introvert - insecure - faltering - making mistakes and growing roles with a HIGH sense of right and wrong ..
He is a TOP class actor in the Kdrama Stable

We always have one of those dramas where after midpoint the interest that kept us glued slacks off and makes us FFD chunks just to know what happens in the end ;-D

I've had my fair share of that .. usually it makes me feel deeply cheated .. cause I spent SO MUCH time already LOL

Hmmm.

PBY stole my heart in the movie "A Werewolf Boy" (cried my eyes out in the final scenes)

And laughed my way through "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon" .. her pairing with Park Hyung Sik was all sparks and cute and just one of the BEST comedies (rom-com) on Kdrama IMO.

I first saw CWS in "The Package" (support role) and he flew!!

Here's the funny thing .. It's only on my rewatch of "The Package" (during a season of drought when I wasn't finding anything to watch or rewatch) I NOTICED : OMG CWS was in this show too .. HOW brilliant and nuanced is his role .. totally convincing.

I NOTICED because by then I had watched BELOVED SUMMER (twice).

It's ONE of my TOP Kdramas for rewatch and every which way.

The low key character type is SO TOUGH to pull off .. insecure, without much ambition, not a genius, sorta lost, not the brightest of buttons when it comes to 'reading' people ..
That "dumb" / "lost in his thoughts" look is what his character IS ... Just a plain ol' lovely boy next door who'll stutter to confess (if EVER).

For me his "visual" is ZERO ;-p
BUT
His acting talent is 9/10
(Beloved Summer IMO is probably his BEST WORK)

I looked up other shows of his after being impressed by his role play.

I am enjoying "The Dream of Splendour"
Sweet .. interesting story .. NOTHING heart pounding till now and I am past the halfway mark .. Heading for a 8/10 IMO

For excellent script .. No cheesy cutesy acts (total turn off for me) excellent sismance .. COMPLEX characters with layers.

I think in tha hands of a MORE DRAMATIC director who took risks this could have been a POWERFUL DRAMA with a 9/10 potential
Because the actors were top notch - suited to the superb script.
