Just started it.. And am hooked. It's so cinematic - a period piece.
Brilliant Script - Editing - mind blowing cinematography (sepia tones) - ensemble cast...and the discovery of some SOLID set of highly talented FLs and MLs.
Will come back here to update how it goes.

😁 Still would be interesting to hear the interpretations of the drama that led to labeling the romance toxic.
It's OK if it was just a gut reaction (it happens to all of us - we can't always pinpoint why) but if there was a reasoning behind the assumption of "toxic" would be interesting to hear.
Or better still : what does word "toxic" mean to us. What are it's symptoms and effects as it shows up in a relationship.
🤣😂 Here's a funny thing I want to share - I am having fun hangjng here relieving my joy of L&P with all the other fans and L&P addicts in lieu of watching any other drama (as I said.. Nothing else has come my way to grip me as much).
Let me also share that I found Lighter and Princess accounts on Instagram - what a treasure trove of BTS and scenes we all LOVED and fan MVs
The show is so much better than I thought it would be. I love the many scenes where the actors just look into…
And have you noticed.. Even their dialogue with each other is never really direct..they are always talking tangentially and yet get each other..ONLY in the MOST deeply emotional scenes of connecting with each other does Zhu Yun use direct words to tell him her feelings.. Li Xun is able to do that ONLY twice or thrice in the WHOLE SHOW!!
- to utter I Love you JUST once (pre-jail) - to tell her in UNEQUIVOCAL terms that Zhu Yun for him was the MOST important thing in his life and nothing else measured up to that (Ep 35? / 36) and he was willing to drop everything else for getting her back.
That teasing indirect joking buddy sort of relationship was at once intense and playful that no amount of "direct love talk" could hold up to. 🤪

I'm at ep 25...and he's very red...very very red. But I kinda like it that he has many flaws.
I found this "red flag" opinion of Li Xun character frequently enough on the thread as well on the reviews page of L&P.
This label is so strongly one-dimensional that it misses out on the complex character Chen Fei Yu is able to portray so evocatively inspite of his role being one of being "closed off" and "unsociable" (I'd not use the word unsocial for him...unsociable is a better fit IMO)

Nothing is quite the same but Hidden Love has great chemistry if you have not watched it yet. Forever Love (2020)…
Am also waiting for her to show up. She did so well on Falling in Love (the period drama) BUT unfortunately the actor in the lead was NO MATCH for her talent. He was hammy - acting - so caught up in delivering his lines and his performance that he forgot he has to "sync" with his co-star. He evoked no quickening of pulse in the viewer (me) nor wear his role with the elan and ease as Chen Fei Yu did with Li Xun.
Chen Fei Yu disappeared into Li Xun and you couldn't find the seam lines!!!!! He's THAT good an actor at 23 only.
Watch him pull off Ever Night at 18 y.o. as the main lead.
He reminds me of the STELLAR ACTING talent of Hyun Bin at a similar age (anyone watched his early movies / Dramas? Or of Kim Woo Bin in School 13.. Even his role in Heirs) they really get a grip into their roles and disappear into it.

I am new to C-Drama.. And it's total serendipity that my first 3 C-Dramas ever were all 10/10 for me (well L&P is 100/10 🤪 - Hidden Love - Fireworks of my Heart - L&P
Watched exactly in that order.. Within a month 😄
It's been truly a struggle to find anything that lives up to that level of absorption of intellect and heart (as L&P)... I continue to enjoy analysing it. And repeat watching the show.
Truly a masterpiece of Drama. At the top tier along with a few Kdramas.
Before this - for 3 years since Pandemic began and someone opened up the world of KDrama to me - I had only watched Kdramas with full and fierce loyalty 😂🤣
I don't like the storyline that goes back to the past like this, from episode 1 I can already guess why ml went…

The drama is enjoyable mainly for those who wish to watch the gradual arc of the story, of the characters, of their actions and reactions to the situations and to each other, to find the point or time that they make decisions that change their lives and the trigger that sets them off.
One will invest this amount of time on a Drama ONLY if it's something that resonates with them.. On some bare minimum level at least.
Many of the cheering and mooning fans of L&P here on this disncussion thread have many reasons which hooked them and pulled them in.
Those who didn't manage to "get" into it or were upset by its premise are looking for another set of parameters in drama world.. And this drama's parameter don't match up with theirs.
Which is perfectly fine and exactly how Asian Drama world works 😇
There is a flavour for each drama lover. A flavour or many many flavours for some.
Therefore there will be someone who loves Hidden Love and can't get L&P at all; someone who loves BOTH; someone who cannot handle Hidden Love at all and was deeply moved by L&P.
Sometimes I think dramas are ripe for deep analysis of content and execution at a research level even...given what interesting emotional impact it has on different viewers.
💯agree. Too simple...it could have been made far more complex.. Lost its way and the FL basically became soooo preachy. And the plot lost its way and fell soooo lax that I basically dropped it after halfway.

Wang An Yu is sizzling hot AND has sexiness ooozing out of his pores!!!!
Loved the skinship scenes - the easy playfulness.
NOT my kind of FL though - I kept shuddering and feeling bone pain watching her "anorexic" like body frame...all skeletal...and not sure but she seems to have had SO much plastic on her face (esp lips) that it barely ripples with inner emotions and thus failed to evoke any emotion in me. The sexiness and "responsiveness" to ML was totally missing.
Those who are comparing Hidden Love to this one - please it’s not even close. Yes I liked that drama but this…
