I am OK with (and even quite ENJOY) open endings BUT it will have to be a drama with some PRETTY HEAVY DUTY acting / screenplay / directing / OST.. The works!!

One that is so solid and compelling that you are OK with it being a sad or open ended.

I'd probably scream and shoot myself if an open ending was thrown at me if I slogged my way through a medium.. Not that great a show.

Not sure I want to watch a comedy with open ending.
Comedies need to end in happy and laughs for me

I know - L&R is a much loved one by so many people (even of many with whom I have a good overlap of drama likes).

However I have never been able to get past certain sort of actresses / actors who are just not my cuppa.

I'll take a second look / try.
If my description of them (as I wrote above) still holds true for me even after that I'll.. Sigh have to put it to rest in my Drama Grave yard.

I hadn't meant to rewatch now .. But guess what happened.
A real life Drama friend RAVED about LYF (Lost you Forever) / TLP (The Longest Promise).
I dropped LYF - ML couldn't hold my attention (IMO poor acting and such unimaginative story telling and structure of plot and low quality script .. Mind you it's just my impression of it)
Then tried TLP (eeeesh .. from the frying pan into the fire) the FL was such a disaster even the promise of Xiao Zhan couldn't hold me back ..

I had such an intense aftertaste left from BAD ACTING and poor script that to return my feel good I decided to JUST GLIMPSE at one of my ALL TIME tops Xanxia - TTEOTM.

Got trapped .. barely one episode in LOL and this is my 3rd watch.

Ha ha ha .. Go figure the irony of it all.

I had SUCH A BAD aftertaste post checking out the show that I thought I'd just play a wee bit of TTEOTM to refill on 'good acting' .. THEN guess what??

Doomed and cannot extricate myself .. so compelling because so many gaps in my understanding of the show was yet to be filled .. the better I had got to know what will happen in the show .. the more I am noticing the detail of what preceded and how and when the arcs were bending .. and so many why's are getting answers.

PLUS I get to minutely observe LYX and BL and other actors who excelled and try to understand what do they do with their bodies and faces that make then SUCH talented actors, which sets them apart from the hoi polloi of rest of the actors in CDrama

But DAMN!!
I'm procrastinating on work I had set aside during this drought ..

I 💯💯💯agree with your opinion of the poor quality of acting by this actress..
Even the attendant ladies in the drama had more convincing presence.

She was reading lines like a textbook.. Anyway the script itself was so poor..

I loved Ever Night.
I loved Chen Fei Yu.

And the FL Sang Sang. She was epic!!!! One of the BEST actresses out there.
How to to do adorable - lovable - strong - loyal without ONCE being cringey or cheesy.
Such a TOUGH TOUGH role to play without falling into the "infantile act" many take as the easy path to "looking cute".

The sparky - witty dialogue.. Complex story and expert direction made me binge Ever Night.

But was left betrayed when I realized Season 2 had lost more than half the cast and Ning Que and CFY are molded together.. How can poor Dylan Wang replace that powerful stamp...
Dylan Wang is a GREAT actor too.. But Unfair to have cast him to fill CFY shoes in this show

Poor Xiao Zhan!!!
He was tired and swamped and drained by this terrible script and the worst FL actress IMO I have seen in Cdrama.

So I was right that he lost his mojo in this swamp.

You might not have seen some of his stellar work - I have and it was one of the main draws for me to check out this drama.

He is one of the best actors in the Chinese stable of actors.. But an actor can only go so far in the hands of a mediocre director and unimaginative, dull script

I like that term pseudo-star.

I almost like to think that she is a nepo actress thrust onto the production by some money wielding rich family pampering their child.

After all the CDramas I watched this must be the worst acting ever.

The script too did nothing to lift her character (or anyone's character for that matter).

The Mother of Crown Prince actress (also in LLTG as a "cold" awol mom) is the only one who was worth admiring and looking at in the 2 eps I tried out.
And oh - before I forget - I feel so sorry for for Xiao Zhan eating his time in this drama.. It would be a pain to watch him suffer through this 🫣 How he shines in the A grade dramas (so talented- this was a bad call and I guess he couldn't back out).

Going on to take a sip at LLTG to cleanse my palate from the bad taste of a poor show.

Sorry all who liked the show.. This is just my take..

IMO the script and story was so unimaginative that no one even noticed it 😂

The worst actress I have seen on CDrama.
She was "reading" her lines out like a school kid might do in a class production for assembly time

That was MY XZ discovery CDrama.

It's a superb drama AND his role is just awesome.

It's tragic that I had to opt out of watching an interesting drama with a fave actor Xiao Zhan because of my dislike of Actress YZ.

We all have actresses (and actors but for me more often actresses) who just look so annoying (visual wise how they carry their faces) and enact their roles in such infantile or spineless manner that you can't bear to watch them.
YZ is my bane ever since I checked her out in Go Go Squid....
