Any love triangles? When do the leads develop feelings for each other/become a couple?
This was one of the most terrible breakdown of communication I have witnesses in the last one month of being on MDL discussion threads.
If it's any solace @Vincenzo Cassano lemme c/p an obnoxious / racist comment this person (@Nonsuch left (below) which no one has picked up on .. This person posts the following comment!!
"Why are friends neighbors and co-workers in Korean dramas so obsessed with other people relationships and families? They are so intrusive and obnoxious , like dogs sniffing and yapping and howling! Is it true to culture or just a drama trope?"
I was on the verge of reporting it .. but that would be tantamount to cleaning up undesirable excretions.
One wonders how this human lost their way and came to spit in DramaLand. We might need to guide them back out .. like well behaved bouncers at respectable clubs.

I disagree with @Nonsuch
.. ALL dramas with relationships DO NOT have 3 humans in romantic entanglements!!
Top off of my head examples of TWO famous and MOST popular highly rated on MDL dramas:
~ Healer ~ Flower of Evil ~ My Mister ~ My Name
Yes MANY (maybe even most) do, that's because its the easiest go-to plot device to up the story complexity, to give definition to the personalities in play and playoff various dynamics that create the arcs for the leads.
There are dramas who do it brilliantly making the viewer go off on a rollercoaster of emotions because empathy is SO evenly spread for all 3 leads, and the show ends up being both satisfactory and yet heartbreaking.
Eg ~ Heirs (is their anyone who didn't scream for a sequel where Kim Woo Bin gets his LOVE) ~ Jealousy Incarnate (torn between the TWO dream guys) ~ Reply 1988 (how many didn't feel they heart break in two at the FAMOUS get together scene where the 'said ring' is discussed)

Exactly!!
Three vertices are involved in this .. three humans .. whether equally .. unequally .. cyclically or otherwise directionally .. A vector triangle diagram would be pretty neat representation of the scenarios possible.
If the strength of the relationship is represented by the length of the sides .. you could actually categorise the dramas with Love Triangles that are : - Scalene - Isosceles - Equilateral
Put directional arrows on the sides and you have and even better representation of the relationships between 3 leads.
;-p
When 4 people are involved the term Asian Drama lovers / bloggers / commenters use is LOVE SQUARE.

That's my understanding too. I agree completely. The DEGREE of importance of the triangles can be argued about but definitely no question that there are TWO love triangles in this drama.
All dramas with SOLID LOVE TRIANGLES that is one of the MAIN drivers of plot and story. Eg.
What Happened in Bali Empress Ki One Spring Day Attic Cat My Lovely Samsoon
And then you have milder ones, eg - Lighter and Princess - Backstreet Rookie - Cheese in the Trap - Cunning Single Lady
They wanted to go for a slow poetic type of drama, but it just ended up way too slow at places. Sorry. And in…
I found the portrayal of PMJ in this drama spot on. Yes; primarily cold and withdrawn and not given to 'talking' or 'explaining' .. It fits in with her life script .. the backstory .. if you think about it. The development of her is SO organic and consistent .. I found her believable and wearing the character like a tailor fit role.
It matches with SKJ's role well IMO. Her quiet, calmness draws him to her .. She's strong and independent too.
That is why her moving back to town wasn't surprising .. or the ending of the drama (yes lefts romantics in the lurch - bawling eyes and all ) kind of open ended .. there is a hint that she's changing .. trying to change .. get past her set in freeze ways .. It might not have satisfied our craving for neatly tied ending .. but this was a better choice and in sync with the tone and development arcs in the drama.
Actually I never skipped his scene with FL in private time..
Oh GOSH!! Yessss!! Good point Kinara.
In such a silky, smooth way, laying a gold paved path they tried to co-opt him.
HOW MATURE Li Xun is that saw through that .. didn't lose sight of what his goals were .. and later after turning down that offer to leave for abroad all expenses paid, he even made an attempt to draw them to help in his vision of the future of his enterprise for greater good "reduce the rate of cancer cure by 1%" They of course caught the wrong end of that proposition and fell on him like a ton of hot bricks .. finding in it a coldly meditated moves by Li Xun to use their daughter to get to them.
OUCH OUCH. That's when Zhu Yun also got briefly caught in the illusion created by the parents that he has ulterior motives ..
A complex dynamic played out during those couple of episodes .. of Zhu Yun turning cold .. him turning colder .. and the craziness that unfolded from thereon .. all the way to behind the bars and a complete breakdown of several relationships.

You make a better argument for the nature of mom and Zhu Yun relationship .. I see it in that light now.
Mom couched her controlling under the guise of "sounding" reasonable. She was NOT kind .. nor able to "see" anything behind the literal. Which is why she NEVER bothered to give a kid - who stood on her porch at night, drenched in rain begging to let his friend off, ready to explain his situation - a hearing at the least.
Any 'teacher' with a sliver of heart would have invited him in, given him a warm cuppa and tried to hear him out at least. And that too on her child's birthday - you'd expect a parent to be even more sensitive to another child the same age her own. (It reminded me of the teacher in School 13 - what a world of difference)
Zhu Yun has heart! She saw her mom talk to a kid who was standing in the rain and the door being shut on him. She offers an umbrella to him. I think that was a memory Li Xun carried in his head ..
What was amazing is that Li Xun didn't seem to carry any animosity or anger or vengefulness against Mom. He saw her in a clear light and took her flaws and all and told her what she needs to be told in that final interaction scene with mom.

WHY are you torturing yourself hanging out in Drama Land .. Shouldn't you be off Asian Dramas in general ?
You'd be better served by Netflix / HBO maybe :-D

Albeit those shows are far between ..

It's also a plot device and drives the story. It's not a very strong engine but it's important for story development

These were so much the reasons that I relished the show and watched it like slow nibbling through a precious chocolate fudge cookie. Just delightful .
Also did a rewatch.
I actually went and looked it up.
Thought I'll share this LOVELY write up from a very top notch blog on the POEMs in the Drama.
The main Blogger dropped the show .. but there are some wonderful comments threads there from others ..

Thank Goodness I didn't start watching this .. so many people raved about it .. and it has such a high rating on MDL.
I couldn't persevere through a male-centric drama .. where women aren't central agents of power and story arc ;-p
Especially not in 2023 ..
am sure it's a riveting tale though since it garnered such a high rating

Sounds like FL in Rain or Shine (aka Just Between Us)
