You wished they'd played it as adults too LOL

Wait don't get me wrong I totally dug their acting .. and like you not so much their roles ..

I LOVE LOVE LOVE angsty romances with aches and hurts and pendulum swings of emotion .. BUT here making Tiffany's role a passive ALMOST DOORMAT .. just took the fun away.

I understand that she she went through HELL but still cant imagine someone's core character becoming so DAFT and "come screw me" sort.

Anyway inspite of all this I still watched and enjoyed it LOL
Way more than I have many other recent ridiculous dramas which have garnered raves ..

P.S. what actually left an awful after taste was the SILLY playacting by the OTP as 'school kids' EEYWOOOO!!!! SO SO SO SOSO SO CHEEESY!!!

Especially given how well the REAL younger versions enacted their characters ..

Isn't it amazing what beauty and schools of Xianxia - Wuxia philosophy is packed into it....enriching so many of the convos and interactions.

I love the "conflicts" and personal goals and beliefs clashing or and working in tandem for common goals or not.

Love the Grey's and the richness.

I have just put on PTW Sword Snow Stride.
Hooked at go.
Looks VERY RICHLY done.

Also has a promising OST.

In fact I have the entire Ever Night OST on my Spotify Playlist and play it so frequently

But the turd drop at the end completely stank up the entire drama for me .. bringing into sharp focus every glaring flaw that I was taking a 'blurry view' of, letting go past with indulgence ..

It made me SO mad that I let go of the 'gaps' and got tricked to the end to be left with a ending like that !!!!! Unbelievable ..

I began with a 9.5 .. fell to a 9.0 .. then to a 8.5 and in the end almost slapped a 6.0 but because of the very reasons you mentioned (my journey following the candy trail was rewarding as was the realness of the slow burn) that I decided to leave it with an 8/10

But seriously!!!! This is SO insulting to the viewers!!

I still gave it a 8/10 ONLY for the early eps and the OTP

(OH maybe I should attribute a whole point JUST for the kid ;-p

I think he did what he thought was right at the time to preserve his 'temple'.
Killings during war for land, or ideology always fells the 'innocent' .. your innocent is my guilty ... says each side ..

That's why in this case I do not see him as 'evil' but just someone of a deep faith in his belief .. Neither Fuzi nor Yan Se consider him 'evil' or even an 'enemy' .. more a 'rival camp'.

EVERNIGHT is wonderful for me because it shows all the various 'beliefs' and 'compasses' that the characters hold to guide their actions .. ONLY some are motivated by "pure lust of power and self interest" they have NO larger goal but 'world domination' for their own ego ..

The Grand Priest does not fall in that category at all .. Just that he worships a different ideal .. and is willing to be imprisoned or die for it.
Once he feels he has found what he is searching for .. he relinquishes his 'crown' and walks away.
GLORIOUS and GRAND that was IMO.

There were enough flaws to begin with...
But one can blink past it...

My ratings started with 9.5 and finally ended at 8.0
Was tempted to sink it to 7.5 but held back because I recalled the good ride I had for the first 24 or so eps.with all it's flaws ans all.

It's drama for a stretchy watch... Alongside other dramas.

I ended up brutally fast forwarding after Ep 30..
and sped through the last 4 - 5 eps in less than an hour.

Unbelievable how HORRIBLY DONE the last episode was - the Drama literally poured it into the gutter!!

WOW .. the stories .. they make you pause and think .. and the roles are MATURE .. the THEMES are MATURE .. the No MORALIZING on difficult life choices .. the ability to examine dilemmas from every angle RESPECTFULLY ..
The passing characters that troop through are each engaging and interesting; drama does not judge them but leaves it to you to think about their life scripts and choices .. deeply emotional and moving at times ..

ZERO FLUFF .. NONE!!!

Each and every role is well essayed and acted.

WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED .. when I discover that it was written by the Screenplay Writer of L&P (my all time TOP Cdrama .. that I have now watched 5 times in FULL).

So sad that it garnered a 7.5/10
I can predict why that was so .. LOL

But I shall delve into the thread only once I have wrapped this ..

Best is it can be slow watched .. nothing RACY or page turner about it .. needs to be RELISHED few eps at a time ..

Brought back memories of this character - GOSH HOW WELL he fitted into the role .. I WANT A GRANPA like like .. OH I WISH I knew an 80 year old Brat like this.

I LOVED Fuzi too for a different set of reasons .. He was NAUGHTY in equal measure .. in his own way .. AND he was portrayed as the repository of ageless wisdom but not weighed down by it .. to be able to maintain that feather lightness inspite of having seen so so so much ...

I LOVED Guang Min (the Head Priest of Light) .. his ability to persevere and yet later to adapt .. his eating out of Sang Sang's hand .. she could pull him by the nose anywhere .. his ability to protect and sacrifice himself to his belief .. and he too had a silliness and innocence that was so endearing for me ..

ALL these 3 old men hit me hard .. in their different ways and when they passed on my heart was broken .. that FINAL SCENE .. of the duel .. Ufff!!!
