Well every other man is after her so i think she will be just fine.
LOL .. true.
The beauty of the DRAMA is that we deeply felt her loss and heartbreak .. yearned on her behalf .. we even understood her POV of why she ran off ..
She for me was the Female equivalent of Kim Woo Bin character in HEIRS. We wept his loss and yearning for the FL too .. It stayed loooong after the drama's HE.
I have the same thought when I watched thisβ¦.i want to go Macau. lol! I love the slice of life until ep 14,…
Finished.. Can read my final impression on the drama π
I began with a 9.5 but ended with an 8..
Never got around to warming up to Mai.. Probably the first time I wanted a lead pair to break up and not work out - that would have worked for the way the Mai character was being built and portrayed in the drama.
Same for Meng and the Proff.. She should have packed up and left.
It's the ideal HALLMARK drama... Idyllic.. Nostalgic.. Life love passion goals self actualization.
The only thing that it lacked is "FAILURE" and the acceptance of it and moving on inspite of it. IMO that would have lifted this drama to >9
It didn't have the courage to go there OR it just wanted to keep all and any "blues" out of it - and therefore it stayed "picture postcard perfect".
Somehow I had hoped that the way the Mai -Le arc was being treated they would be the breakup couple and move on with their lives. That Meng would leave the selfish Proff.
Mai and Le were totally incompatible!!! That should have been the example of when "like at first glance" might just not be suitable for long term relationship. That Le wise mom would see through her selfish, self absorbed persona as absolutely unsuitable for her son and not show any encouragement there.
Also their daughter could have been developed as bright spot of fun support character who also realizes that Mai isn't the one for her bro. Hyping up the sibling bonding index.
Mr Frank's mother?? She needed to show up and a more realistic arc developed for Casey Frank and mom with an added scene; would have enriched the drama.
Did his mom come for the final recital?
Mr Frank's original robot smile that didn't reach his eyes worked in the beginning - later one wondered if he was being depicted as mildly challenged in some way that he couldn't "true" smile (Smile Code reverb?)
Anyway it was a fun relaxing and enjoyable watch because of so many wonderful things as listed in a comment below by @riya...
It could have been more...much much more poignant and meaningful if all the endings were NOT squished into a HE
Am watching and loving the slice of life feel.. Lazy relaxing watch... Like a holiday beach novel...breezy beautiful happy tinge of blues to balance the flavour...
But I can't shake off the ANNOYANCE and irritation the Mai character is bringing in She is acting her role well for sure... If this is how she is written - anal and stuck up.. Confused and frigid.. But isn't the character also supposed to evoke empathy.. That is not happening for me personally.. I can't get on her side yet.. She just seems like someone who is all "me me me me and my feelings" she has till now shown ZERO interest in him...and looks like she is using him... I have NO IDEA why is he even attracted to her??
That is annoying the heck out of me too.
Am WAY MORE invested in the sweetest heartbreaking story of Mr Frank and Ms Casey. That has given us a view into their inner life and am filled with empathy.. It is ADORABLE.. This part of the drama - UNIQUE portraits here.
As for Elvis and ZXC...YUMMY... They are making it rock so well.
And the decisions they make are understandable and reasonable, you know where they come from. Some dramas have…
Oh you must must must. I will do a rewatch soon too. Walk through fire all over again - but the burn releases a flood of dopamine and I cant wait to soak in it.
We have all wanted to do that, but there are excellent reasons for why she does what she does. Also, if looked…
@Platinum Fox
CLAP CLAP CLAP .. The Mother's Role as written in this Drama (AND SUPERLATIVELY enacted by the actress ) is UNIQUE in C-Drama land .. It's COMPLEX and TOTALLY unpredictable with so many facets to her personality ..
Shao Shang could only sprout from her womb .. the tragedy and comedy of their relationship is almost Shakespearean ..
While waiting for the episodes of The double, I thought of checking this one out.. since I heard its a hilarious…
OH SO GLAD you watched it. I was giggling away right through this ABSOLUTE DELIGHT of a drama .. the FL cuddled into my heart - LOVED her.
And I have a THING for spoilt CUTE BRAT ML roles when done well .. Eg WXY here and JCW (Ji Chang Wook - Wookie) in Empress Ki (he crushed my heart to pulp in that one for sure!!)
I also don't understand the ratings, because with all my love for Gong Yoo it's a boring dragging story of rich…
Oh dear (oh reindeer?! π π )
I think I barked up the wrong tree.
Are you sure you are here to watch ASIAN DRAMA, the same way most of MDL members are?
You may have been misled here looking for "Asian" equivalent of Sundance - Telluride - Cannes - Toronto etal festival fare??π π
I am afraid you are in the wrong neighborhood.
The flavours and smells of this part of popular entertainment is VERRRY distinct from the places where Baby Reindeer goes clubbing.
It's NOT David Lynch - Jim Jarmusch - Steven Soderberg - Michael Haneke world...
Just saying!!!
To talk about oranges to compare with apples... Umm. π²π€π€ Lemons and sweet lime would be still be acceptable.. to weigh in while talkind about Oranges, no?
π€£π€£π€£
I'll recommend quitting Asian Drama (especially Chinese and Korean) and finding the right streaming platform.
TRY MUBI?? Expensive BUT Stellar compendium if you are seeking "Baby Reindeer" brethren πΊπΊπΊ
It's a treasure house.
When I want to go for Michelin experience I do head there... But recently after discovering the hot-pot of Street Food and exotica (C and K Dramas) - the buzz is so addictive.. mouthwatering .. That I haven't been back to MUBI .. except occasionally ..
I also don't understand the ratings, because with all my love for Gong Yoo it's a boring dragging story of rich…
That's one way of looking at the "elephant" .. but if one were to pull back one might notice the other larger issues which are impacting the stories of these individuals : ~ destructive fallout of 'social media cancel' culture ~ taboos around LGBTQ ~ domestic violence ~ soul-less marriages ~ parental bullying ~ personal responsibility to be answerable to one's closest friends - lovers - spouses ~ unequal division of household labour ~ 'trapped with kids' for lack of quality affordable childcare ~ lack of understanding of 'mental health' issues ~ drug abuse
How well these issues are woven into the fabric of a superlative STORY arc with atmospheric OST - Cinematography - set design - editing and acting .. subtle but strong .. overt moralising dialogues are minimal .. style matches content ..
Of course one can ONLY see what one is ABLE to see .. but sad that the deeper layers of important issues went unnoticed .. Not sure if this elaboration helped ..
Hope no one wastes their time watching a full drama if they cant get into it ;-D
I am a serial DROPPER of dramas .. This one I BINGED ALL night ..

I could easily do a 5th watch .. It's addictive!
Although 5th watch I might just DO the OTP thread and FFD a lot of the other non-OTP scenes .. although it will be tough to not .. LOL
I LOVE LOVE the MOTHER!! ( AND the father too ).
She is one of the UNIQUE mother roles (of course LLTG mother is a fascinating character too) .. I LOVE these break the mold roles ..

Or read the reviews which do that.
This reviewer was giving her own "view" of the drama and commenting on it.
