Everyone whos confused...LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT!!! VICTOR DOES NOT LIKE TRIN!!! He just hate thanwa since he's…
To be fair we can't really exclude that he's not developing any romantic feelings for Trin, it's too soon to tell. Besides that, you're right, it's clear that Victor deeply dislikes Thanwa because of what he represents and doesn't want Trin to be associated with the likes of him
Sigh ⢠Trin is Thai, from a very affluent family, who studied abroad in France during the Cold War and returned…
What a simpleton and downright close-minded way of thinking about a story. You are doing a disservice to all these stories by negating their multifaceted nature (imagine believing that the aim of wlgyt is the protagonist becoming a writer and that's it).
romance not being at the forefront of the story doesn't mean there's no plot. the plot is all of these characters…
Shine is a story about different people juggling between the struggles of those years and trying to find themselves. We have Trin, a naive economist who believes that it's possible to change the system using Western theories, not realizing that he knows nothing about his country and how things work. We have Tanwa, who is a struggling hippie trying to live life as a free spirit, but can't because of his surname and the weight it brings. We have Naran, a journalist who wants to expose the corruption of the government and write about real life, but finds himself hindered by the press's censorship. We have Krailert, who is a colonel, and he's constantly struggling between his duty and being true to himself. We have Victor and the boys at the university trying to stop the military/government from taking away their land. These characters drive the plot: if you don't get them, you'll not get the plot. Also, the aim was set from the beginning: can a man just be himself without being boxed? And when this "free" man is asked to choose, what will he do? Is it possible to be truly free? I'm sorry that you don't find the story compelling, but to say that Shine has no plot is simply untrue.
I get you, because i also think like this! Idk why everybody is cursing you in the coments, you weren't even being…
and that's fair but what op said had nothing to do with the fast pacing (which while i don't agree i can understand where you come from). to me it just seems that they expected a series completely focused on tanwatrin and that was never gonna happen so i don't get the criticism because how is the series fault if your unrealistic expectations were not met?

While I do agree that the comments are too much, I don't understand the observation at all. They ARE a part of the story, that's how it works. You need to give them time to develop their relationship as well as other characters too.
Just started this series today. A couple of questions: Lert's lover from 1960, did he kill himself? And does Veera…
he didn't off himself, it was explicitly hinted that they made him "disappear" hence he was either killed off or jailed/exiled. and yes, veera seems to be in love with dhevi
I saw him š and now I'm waiting for JJ to show up š¬
He's sucha, the guy with the round glasses and curly hair that was seen sleeping while tanwa was taken away in this episode and the one who was at the party chilling where trin and tanwa officially met in the pilot
I'm sad that I find this bl boring. 6 episodes left and I feel nothing has happened. The pace is slow. Did we…
Not every story is meant for everybody, and it's okay. Additionally, Moira's discussion with Tanwan reveals her background, what kind of woman she is, which is crucial if you want viewers to care about a character in a story.
So was Krailertās lover, the movie star killed by the army or just taken away, and exiled for instance? I know…
from my interpretation the term disappearance it's a code for killing someone off and it makes more sense to me but the jail option can't be excluded. In any case i'm sure we are going to know more about it from lert himself when and if he opens up to naran
Age? š Sorry not sorry! This series should be 25+ and proper education. I was honestly waiting for all the…
I mean, i would understand if we were talking about 12 y.o, but even as a 25< you're still living in the world, so shouldn't you have some basic understanding? maybe i'm the weird one lol
i need to remove this pebble from my shoes: why do so many of you find the story confusing? you don't need to know thailand's history to understand and relate to themes such as classism, military/political oppression, sexism, homophobia, bigotry, etc.. on the contrary i would argue that such issues are very much felt in today's world as such as they were in Thailand's 60's so when i hear people saying that they are confused about the story i just don't get it because you need to have lived in a glass bell to have zero societal and political interest and understanding, which is pretty worrysome imo
I'm sorry that you don't find the story compelling, but to say that Shine has no plot is simply untrue.
