I'm attracted to broken characters, maybe that's why I'm fascinated by him lol. He said in a recent interview (rough trans by me of course lol) "I can't find a character interesting if they're too nice or too beautiful. Whether being bad or sly, I think that's what makes them human. And because of that certain darkness, the beauty of them stands out." And it makes sense for a lot of his character choices. In that same interview, he was asked about playing Tachibana Chiaki and he said "I don't want to attract Shinobu just by being cool or cute, I want to plant Chiaki in her head as a sense of discomfort." and this explains his evil smile when Shinobu was losing her mind in the Mario Kart scene hahaha.
I agree about the airplane sound. Odd choice but added so much emotion to the scene. We're only at the 3rd episode and I'm already willing to give this drama a 10 for rewatch value. I feel like I can watch it all day to admire all the details and the acting.
Yeah, I know, the plot looks plain. I wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't for the cast. But it's actually very worth watching. Also the aphonia thing was actually kind of a spoiler, sorry, I just had to let you know 😂
Can you tell me which disclaimer? I've just watched ep 3 and I feel heavy. God, I hate the husband and the end…
The disclaimer at the end of the preview for next week: "This is a work of fiction, but the feeling of love for an older person does exist" (just my rough trans) and it popped up right at the scene Chiaki was crying in the preview :(( Here's the screenshot: https://twitter.com/akikoooku/status/1484555156104818690?s=20 (this is the director's official twitter btw lol) For the first 2 episodes it was "This is a work of fiction, but love from the age of 40 does exist."
Are you watching it raw? Do you need Japanese subs to understand it better? I can DM you the Jp subs if you want.
Aww man is it not being translated by any group?? I love itagaki rihito and from the clips that i've seen of this…
Yes, there's a fansubber working on it but they haven't officially announced it yet. Probably next week. Don't worry, you'll get to watch it soon. If you want I can reply you here when the sub is out.

Aside from a few cute and cheeky roles, Rihito's roles are mostly miserable and tragic, even the very minor roles from his young age, I feel sick just by recalling them all at once ugh. But I have to admit, only 3 episodes in and Chiaki is already his best so far. The way his eyes were filled with rage and hatred looking at the husband and then seconds later they turned into pure sadness when Shinobu rejected his hand... yeah, that scene broke me too :((
Right, now that you said it, that udon scene seems to be much more complicated. Damn, initially I just thought it was interesting because of the direction. But now, there are actual layers to it.
That gargling scene was excellent. So well done. Sayaka's acting was amazing. The atmosphere had me waiting for him to hear her and get so surprised that he would choke on whatever he was gargling lol They really pushed the tension to near climax and then just abruptly cut to another scene like that xD The flying airplane sound when Chiaki broke down to tears was a very odd choice as well, it was kinda deafening and made sense somehow.
Oh, if you like Rihito's eyes acting and facial expressions, I recommend Kaze no Mukou he Kakenukero, it's a recent 2-episode SP and his character had aphonia so it was mostly his eyes that did the talking.

Ikr. I've been following Rihito for a while now and his acting here still amazes me in every episode. That last scene was really heartbreaking. His eyes were full of emotions. And that moment when he reached out for her hand, my heart ached :(( Also the udon scene in Ep2 just took a whole new meaning now that Chiaki said he wanted to destroy their family and eat normally after. Though he didn't look very happy or satisfied when he ate that udon :( Yes, the use of sound effects has been so disturbing yet so fantastic. That raining sound when Shinobu found out Chiaki's home, it was like we were forced to remember that painful memory with her. Also the way they've been linking the nuts cracking sound + the gargle sound to that shitty husband character from the 1st ep, and then re-using those sounds in scenes like THAT in Ep3... they're just so good at messing with our heads.
EPISODE 3: oh god... I was shaking for the entire time watching Ep3, that last scene, the feels... I know I've been repeating this same thing over and over again but damn... The acting, the emotions, the sound effect, the camera work, the preview for Ep4 and the new disclaimer at the end. INTENSE.
I didn't know Yamaguchi Sayaka was in here. I choked on my water when she appeared. Wow... Sayaka and Rihito in a 2019 movie omg. who would've thought... lol Hongo Kanata and Yamaguchi Sayaka were the scene stealers in this movie, the rest of the movie was just mediocre.
Alright, I've checked like 90% of his filmography and a few roles that are not credited here (didn't watch the ones that's prior 2017 because those were only very minor roles) and there's not a role by him that felt repeated so far. You might think he only suits cute roles but he actually can channel so many different auras, whether it's cute, innocent, bright, mischievous, elegant, mature, quiet, frail, dark, mean, mysterious or even seductive. It's like he's got a whole spectrum in there it's insane. He can even pull off characters 10 years older than his real age lol. He embodied every character and nailed every one of them. And his eyes, I swear they can speak. He's a chameleon with so much potential. He better hit it big and get a proper movie soon or I'm losing faith in the J-ent industry.
I just read a blog on TV Tokyo website and they said Ohku Akiko directed 8 episodes: Ep1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12 (Finale). That's right. You didn't read that wrong. There are 12 episodes, everyone. Not 10, but 12 EPISODES 😭 They are not playing around with this one. Fasten your seatbelt, it's gonna be a wild ride for sure.
Just noticed Dr*macool uploaded the 1st episode with the bad quality machine-translated subs from one of the users below. It’s unwatchable, there’s no way you can understand the drama with subs like that. That explains why people have been coming here talking about anything except the actual plot lol
First of all, please refrain from watching dramas on sites like Dr*macool. It’s already disgusting that they steal subs from fansubbers for profit, it’s even more frustrating that they upload bad quality subs like this and ruin the dramas. Of course, watching from those sites is not as wrong as ‘infidelity’ but it’s still not something to be proud of either :)
Secondly, to anyone that wants to watch this drama with engsub, please wait. Please. Wait. Someone is working on it, they will announce it later. Don’t waste your time on bad quality subs and illegal streaming sites. Just wait, patiently.
Japanese never views infidelity as normal. Gosh, how did you come to that conclusion? Is it because they have many…
Oh god, you really don’t know about it, no wonder lol https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20210405-why-japan-cant-shake-sexism I intended to stop replying to you, but you saying it’s ‘absolutely baseless’ is like completely denying years and years and years of Japanese women’s struggles and efforts to fight for their rights and positions. The link above is just one of the first google results. I suggest you look more into the matter if you have the time. And do you know why these dramas are usually from female POV? Whether it’s about infidelity, being bullied by in-laws etc. It’s because Japanese married women are voiceless and those dramas are one of the platforms that give them a voice.
I have no reason to take my time and give you drama suggestions. Hopefully some kind of angel would do that instead. I have been very civil to you and I’ve had enough talking to you (and any similar comments about this matter). I won’t engage any further even if you reply to me. Stay safe. And have fun with your healthy dramas and movies.

Analyse, really? Sounds more like presumption to me. But you actually got a point there. People usually sympathize with the woman more mostly because Japanese women get treated like trash after they get married. It's like a common sense in Japan that the wives have to quit their full time job, stay home and take care of their family. And then the basis of almost every infidelity problems begins from there. So I think that "gender inequality" you're talking about actually starts from another "gender inequality" problem.
Face it or not, infidelity happens everywhere, not just in Japan. I find it very bold of them to address these matters on dramas and movies, from different points of view. People enjoy watching them for many different reasons, it doesn't mean they see it as normal or they would do it in real life. Of course there are always good dramas and bad dramas about every aspects. Maybe you just haven't found the one that clicks with your mindset. And if you're still strong on that opinion then just let it go, don't watch, give your mind some peace.
Also, judging a drama from only 2 episodes isn't a very wise thing to do.

Is it because they have many infidelity themed dramas?
