It’s interesting to read the comments and reviews talking about what a masterpiece this is - I am on episode 11 and am struggling to care about most of these characters - I’ll stick it out a bit longer - but, man this is dragging
This started out strong and then just started to fall apart mid-way through. Had a slight rebound around episode 9 - but then lost it again in the end. I found the Kim Go Eun character the most annoying - just kept getting herself played, over and over and over and just never learned . I would have thought someone who grew up poor and with her parents, she would have more streets smarts - but, nope. I found her to be least compelling character in the whole drama - mostly because she was a single note character for most of the drama. Second sister followed closely behind. And that last episode was just a hot mess. Final note - can we get Wi Ha Joon to lead in a Romantic Drama (not a rom-com - but a drama) - he really was the highlight in this
Just finished and would say this is just OK - not bad, but not very good either. It would be interesting to do this story over with a more mature FL character. I dont mind the physical age difference - but the maturity level difference was just too much. While her age is 22, she acts and behaves like an immature, spoiled 15yr old and that was bothersome. Agree with many of the commenters that friends story lines were boring and added nothing (except drama plots) to the overall story and family through much of them.
I agree. Everything is unnatural in this drama. exhausting. Don't forget to mention that they became overnight…
in all fairness -this is a cdrama, not a kdrama, so not sure how much 'choice' they have in their roles - but, yes, it would be nice if they could make better choices, more importantly, wish the directors/writers/producers would make better choices in how they portray women
agreed - she can even do a deep voice - that scene where she gets caught in the rain and puts the bucket on her head - is fantastic - this is another example of how the 'baby' voice is an affect. And its more a commentary on the directors/writers/producers - who tell her to speak this way out of some weird ideology that that is 'cute'
She was seriously one of the most annoying FL’s. Besides the ditzy play - she manipulated the bajesus out of everything. I agree that I dont see how he would fall for her at all - she was ridiculous. And, yep, that annoying ‘baby’ voice - it was a bit much and over the top in this. And she can clearly talk normally (as she does in multiple places) - so its extra annoying to know she is doing it on purpose.
My god - who wrote this - I am on episode 12 and it is taking everything in me to continue watching it. I like the ML and that is about it. The FL is one of the most annoying characters I have watched so far. She has a PHD in ornothology, but has chosen to be a beauty vlogger and runs around being this ditzy airhead who decides to get revenge on a guy who she believes stood her up in college. She basically stalks him and then tricks/manipulates him into pretending to be her boyfriend with with her family and friends. it's all just so absurd. add in the over-the-top baby voice (and I am not talking about pitch or tone here - I am talking affect) - its all just getting too painful to watch. Which is sad - this story had such great potential to be a sweet romantic drama and they just went with too many horrible tropes and cliches.
Well, the actor playing the ML disagrees with you. In interviews, he described JungHo as having ENTJ personality…
There is no way that character was an extrovert - he didn’t like being around people - which is a key component of being an extrovert (cause that is where they derive their energy from) might need to send the actor clearer Myers-Briggs definitions - lol! And I will have to edit the domineering part - I think it was more about him not being a more dominant person in the relationship - which, again, is attributed to being introverted and shy - if he was a true ENTJ - he would be leading that relationship and have clear goals - the character is too submissive to the FL to be an ENTJ - just sayin’
Just finished this up and all I can really say is - meh. Nothing real exciting about it. Didn’t feel any real chemistry between the two leads - whole things was just kind of blah.
Just completed and overall - I would say this is a good rom-com drama. I mostly enjoyed both the lead characters and the support cast was really good. Good chemistry with the whole team. Well done. I really appreciated the high emphasis on consent in this drama - it is a rarity in kdrama - so, kudos to writers and directors for this. I see a lot of bashing on the ML character for not being more 'domineering' or 'dominant' - as an introvert - I totally related to this character and thought the ML did a fantastic job. This character, from the beginning - is a shy, guilt-ridden, introvert (has been since they first met) - I was actually annoyed at many points by the FL character constantly pushing him to express himself (to only kneecap him when he finally does). As an introvert - she exhausted me much of time and I found him to be a saint and a portrait in patience. Her emotional rollercoaster of a ride would have killed most shy/introverts. She was either raging, crying, or drunk - while just spewing every thought that came into her head and never letting him respond. We were constantly reminded of her trauma with her father to the point of annoyance (yes, we get it, your dad died unjustly and you can't get over it), while she failed to barely recognize his family trauma/guilt, almost to the point of dismissal - so, I found their relationship very out-of-balance a lot of the time. That being said- when they did come together, their chemistry was very good. Overall - a good watch and would recommend
Overall a good romance - I liked that there was not extended separation tropes and that issues were quickly addressed when outsiders tried to split them up. ML was fantastic in this, FL - not so much. I found the way they wrote this character very odd - like, why are the only pictures she has on her desk, in her apartment and in her room at her parents - all just of her and non one else - its just weird. Didn't like that she always jumped to the wrong conclusion, then reacts badly - only to find she is wrong and has to apologize - it just annoying that this behavior never changes throughout the whole drama. Then there was the constant trope (not just for the FL) of the clumsy girl who keeps tripping and falling - within the first 5 episodes she has sprained/twisted her ankle three times tripping or falling of her high heels (another female character does this multiple time as well) I appreciated that the fact they they actually kissed and interacted with each other like normal adults - as opposed to how couples are normally portrayed - the horrible, stiff body, lips touch, but they dont move, girl looks terrified thing that normally happens. I also appreciated that gave her a normal adult voice and not the horrible, talk like a baby voice I look forward to seeing this ML in more romantic dramas - he is has got a great smoldering gaze to him that is fantastic. Could have cared less about the 2nd and 3rd romance stories - didn’t really feel like they added much to the drama Could have cared less about all the office drama Overall, a good light romantic drama to watch .
Just started this and hoping it gets better - but my god is the FL already annoying. Why do they insist on portraying female characters like - so stupid, never stops talking and that annoying baby voice - gah! And while she has lost her six senses - why she has no common sense or how to behave around anyone - is just absurd.
Just finished and just going to say “meh’ - not horrible, but not great either. Hated the set design and styling of this one and those horrible bangs on the ML - yuck! Liked the FL - too may side-stories to care about. Story itself its too bad - just didn’t feel it was executed all that great.
Overall, I found this mostly enjoyable. If they could have just focused on the main leads story and not all the other side-stories - it would have been better. Could have done without the first story arc - it was just stupid. Once you get into the second arc - it gets better. Could have TOTALLY done without the Lord Emperor/Niece story - was just so ridiculous - the sad little , pouting puppy following the guy around - this character was just pointless. Ending was dragged out and then their coming back together too short. More Mark Chao in long hair please!
Cannot emphasize enough how poorly written this is. I like most of the actors that are in it - but this is just poorly written and executed. It’s like they took every bad kdrama trope for a rom/com murder mystery and put them all together to make this. And, seriously can we get the ML pants that fit!
