If you have experienced with an older Chinese generation, you may have encountered similar family relationship…
LOL! Yes, indeed wholesome harem means comedy. I've never come across a true life wholesome harem. If anyone has, please let me know because I'd really love to see how they could manage harmony in a polygamy :D

I am not really buying He Hong Shan's acting as the evil concubine Qian. Something feels off about her portrayal.…
I find her evil at times (makes my hair stand) and a pretend innocent kid at others (my hair stands even more). In this sense, I think her acting is good because she creeps me out and I know I can't trust a thing about her.

has seen Wallace in other dramas where he's much more expressive than here. Besides period look not befitting…
Yes, I agree with what @Bowties are cool is saying. He has a heavy burden, and such home life is the least he wants but has no choice because of his mother - he can't say 'no' to her because he's a filial pious son. He doesn't seem like a happy person, at least I believe until he falls in love with our FL.

Watching a harem drama from a female perspective like this amuses me in the sense that all men are useless. It…
Yes, I've always found it amusing (at the same time disgusting) that Chinese men of older generation claimed it was their 'duty' (not just lust) for having multiple and younger spouses concurrently, only to end up with battle ground home life like this (who in the right mind would want to live through life this way? Serve them right XD). Ironically, many of these harems were also created by the matriarchs who were once in the same position themselves. I do feel these matriarchs extremely vindictive :D

I am so tired of toxic harmes. Is there literally in all of history not ONE harem that was cool with each other…
If you have experienced with an older Chinese generation, you may have encountered similar family relationship as in this drama. This was something so common in the old days that it'd become a way of life for many Chinese, as toxic as it might have been :).

Now i know why people are complaining. This is one of the most boring drama,i don't know how to explain. The ML…
Wooooo, then you have no idea how Chinese tradition once was :D

To be honest the recent two episodes let me down.
Be patient! Let her grow. She's finding out more and more about ML and we can feel she's beginning to look at him in a different light.

better skip it for now as of now female lead is outwitted by dumb concubines
She's not being outwitted at all. She just doesn't want to get into a cat fight with her. Anyway, there's only one that is trying to stab her on the back. The other two are quite neutral. In fact, one of the 2 is getting friendly with her :)

who the hell is tagging "Strong Female lead" "Smart Female lead" to this drama pls don't mislead us
Maybe not yet "strong" but definitely "smart".

Both ML & FL are intelligent. That’s the best thing about this show. It’s very hard to watch a harem themed…
I agree with you that both the ML & FL are intelligent and mature. They try to avoid getting into cat fights within the household. Their concept of a family is inline with each other - that is, love & trust, instead of scheming against each other to be a step ahead and getting a more vantage position.

I hate bickering women and I want to punch that smug smile off Qian's face! But I must admit that it is quite…
All these bickering and scheming are just like those harems in the palace - it's tiring. Poor Lingyi watching all these happening right in front of his eyes. No wonder many of those men die young XD

Watching this makes me happy to be living in 2021...and not a woman in the Ming Dynasty.
Poor women. Everything was a chess move for them.

Oh!Wallace has already a packed harem full with first wife, concubines and kids...Not my favorite scenario for…
I love this voice, but yes, I would have preferred a lower tone, more subdued voice for this character.

Any secondary couples?
There's this ML's younger brother (5th brother) who marries a princess (or some kind). They're rather cute at the moment.

I have seen your comments below (and I went and rewatched ep 8 before replying lol) but from my understanding…
I should correct my use of words here: "shou chong" means "being favored". So it seems this is the only meaning, instead of what I was thinking, "being slept" (ps. doesn't mean I have a dirty mind XD)

So true! This practice has been quite common even until recently, like 50 years ago. I believe many Chinese families still have grandparents with multiple spouses :)

Yes, you're right!

- has 1 dead wife and 1 new wife FL (after his dead wife)- 3 concubines- he has only slept with his first wife…
My apologies. I ponder over the term "shou chong", and realize it does mean they're not favored but doesn't mean they've not been slept. So yeah, you're right :)

I try to understand the term "shou chong" here - does it mean "not being favored" or "not being slept", and yes, I agree with your conclusion here. I was thinking "not being slept" because of FL's response (she seems surprised) that's why I was thrown off course. But, how you explain it makes more sense :)
